i wrote this response to a post on a different mod (Dain's Fixes) of someone having difficulty getting it to be an .override file, i had just gone through an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out modding but ESPECIALLY with not being able to figure out how to get DAO Modmanager to take my fricken override mods >:| i posted it there to help anyone who stumbled upon it but i thought i should also put it here too in the chances of sparing someone else from spending extra time struggling the way i did!!
(this is to get your override mods to become .override files that Modmanager can use)

Hey! you should download and read the manual for DAO Modmanager (just a look at the .html file and it solved my problem)
Or i can recap and maybe save you a few seconds of download time! :)
go to the Override Creator tabNew Override PacketName it whatever you'd like to remember which mod it's for (for Pineappletree's Vibrant Colours i just put Pineapple's pallette) and hit OK (the german word is cancel), then in the bottom left there will be a spread with a bunch of folders leading to other folders- you have to select the bottom folder with the name you just picked:
BioWare>Dragon Age>packages>core>override>*folder with the name you chose*, then you will drag the unzipped folder (or whatever the mod says should be added to override) of the mod you're installing into the part that says 'drop your files here' (bottom right)- if you're unable to drop the mod folder and it shows a circle with a line through it that means you haven't selected/clicked on the folder for it to go into (when it's selected the name will be highlighted in blue and the blank 'drop your files here' section will be a white spreadsheet- if you select any other/invalid folder this section will stay blank and you won't be able to place any files), add any touch ups you'd like such as the link to the mod in the url section/the modders name/mod version/description- none of it is mandatory but it is nice to have things organized and it will be easy to see if you have an old version of a mod, to finish hit Create Override Packet, it will do it's thing and you'll see the mod in the bottom section on the main Mods tab (.override mods with a gold shield, .dazip with a silver one), right click, install, and you're good to go!
**I'M GONNA BE HONEST** i know there's another path under Dragon age>modules>single player that also has a folder with the name you chose that you can drop the files into but i don't have a flaming clue what the specific difference is so i just stick to the '>core' path

i hope this helps anyone in the same lost situation i was in!! if i got things wrong don't be afraid to reply and correct me, or if you know why one would have a mod in the >single player section you could also reply and share your beautiful modding knowledge <<33 remember to be safe and check people's reviews before installing mods! <<33

I can confirm it works like this. Just manually make an override file and install it. Thank you for a walkthrough, I've been struggling to make the mods work for half a day.

I hope your pillow is cold every night from now on. Just spent 2 hours trying to fix this thing and my dumbass didn't think I should click on the override folder at the bottom. Thank you!

Just purchased the Origins Ultimate Edition and am trying to use this mod manager but when I click on the DAO-Modmanager.exe, it tells me it could not find a part of the path.  It is looking for mod/override.  Do i need to install the manager in a different folder than the desktop?  DO I have to point it to a specific folder.  If I click on "ok" enough it eventually comes up.  How can I fix this so the manager comes up without the error message?  I should add I had the EA version but uninstalled it after I purchased the three from Steam.  Also Nexus is indicating I have several mods already downloaded but I think this is just historical as I cannot find them on my PC.

Hey. In my case, I didn't extract the 'mods' folder within the zip file. A silly but easily made oversight

    Can someone please help!

DAO is installing the dazip without issue, but all override mods are not showing up in-game at all. I have zero idea how to configure the xml file once it has been right-clicked and labelled as installed. Nothing is showing in game for cosmetics. I'm getting so frustrated lol.

I installed the mod manager, but no matter what I do it won't open on my computer.  I don't get an error message or anything.  Anyone else have this issue?  I realize that this hasn't been updated since 2010 lol so might not have a fix.

I downloaded the Mod Manager but every time I try to launch it from the ".exe", I get a message saying, "An error occurred while reading the Addon.xml - could not find file" The file is supposed to be located in the settings but upon looking I guess I couldn't find it. And last time I downloaded this mod manager the error didn't occur, I tried to locate the file anywhere in my system but alas, no luck. I'm just curious what the fix is because this Mod Manager is amazing. I had to redownload because my HDD truly became spinning rust lol and I had to replace it. Anyway, I hope I provided enough information for it to be resolved. Thank you!

      addIns.xml will be located in the game's Settings folder. i.e., \Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings.

I just got a new computer and downloaded the mod manager and it doesn't open. I have the 7zip and it just flashes and that is it. It doesn't extract any files from the mod manager anywhere. How do I get it to work?

You need 7-zip utility (google it and download the correct version for your operating system: either 32-bit or 64-bit).
Install 7-zip. Once installed you can right-click on the 7-zip file of the mod you downloaded and you can choose to extract. Now you sould be able to access the extracted folder and run the app within.

Every time I try to install a mod, instead of going to this mod manager it goes to ME3 Tweaks. ME3 Tweaks pops up saying that opening the other mod manager will fix it but it doesn't work. How do I get it to work?

So, I tried to download this mod manager and the only thing in my downloads folder is a file that says DAO-Modmanager_1_9d-277.7z It's not a zip folder, it's just a file that opens in notepad with some lettering. What am I doing wrong?

The extension .7z means it is a 7-zip archive; you need 7-zip to extract it. Just google 7-zip -it's freeware.
If oyu decide to install it: after installation you can right-click on any 7-zip file and then choose to extract -easy peasy.
