Version 4.01f
- There have been no changes or updates to the mod itself. You do not need to re-download, however new optional files are available!
An update to the mod is being looked into... if the update releases, it shall be under Version 5.00. - Optional file: Fixes Only is now available for download!
- Optional file: Improvements Only is now available for download!
- Motivation Replaces Concentration file has been moved to the Miscellaneous area of the downloads section.
This file is a joke mod made per a user request and isn't necessarily a part of the mod itself in anyway shape or form, so I've moved it to the Miscellaneous area.
- There have been no changes or updates to the mod itself. You do not need to re-download, however new optional files are available!

Version 4.01
- Improved the description of the Reactor skill in the Skill List for Dante.
Currently the vanilla/original description for Reactor is actually incorrect regarding Trickster dashes, implying Dante could not originally dash as many times as he liked (akin to Devil May Cry 4). This description has been changed to be more accurate with the current way Dante works.
This change is still a work in progress and may change again in the future when I can figure out how to make the text feel right. - Added story.msg.14 file to change more instances of "History of DMC" to "History of Devil May Cry" for consistency with the title screen change.
- Adjusted pc_options.msg.14 file to improve a few descriptions.
Very minor changes to the descriptions, just to feel more legitimate. These may continue to change in the future. - Consistency fix to the Enemy Step skill description for every character (different files are used for each character skill list).
Previously the second batch of text would have spacing, however this is inconsistent with the rest of the Skill List descriptions, so I have now made it consistent with the rest.
- Improved the description of the Reactor skill in the Skill List for Dante.
-
Version 4.00
- This version is kept up in-case anybody dislikes the new changes or the new file does not work for you in any case.
- Compatibility with SSSiyan's Collaborative Cheat Trainer.
The trainer edits a few of the same files, so I have altered the mod files to be compatible with this trainer.
There is little to no reason to not use this trainer on PC as it offers many quality of life gameplay options without needing Cheat Engine anymore. - Removes a few previous changes in order to be compatible.
Please note all fixes are still in place. This should make the mod do exactly what it says via the title rather than add additional changes I consider "improvements".
-
Version 3.05
- Properly capitalised orb titles.
This change is likely only visible when starting a new game and collecting orbs for the first time. However part of this change can be seen by nearly any player when collecting Gold Orbs
E.g. Gold Orb's title is "Revival orb", to which has been changed to "Revival Orb"
- Properly capitalised orb titles.
-
Version 3.041
- Re-added fixed subtitles for Dante's dialogue that's spoken should you lose and wait around on the orb selection screen.
I forgot to re-add this file upon file clean-up in the last update, apologies. Here's what this does specifically:
"That really all you got? Little Vergil's got a boo boo?" has been changed to "Is that really all you got? Aw, little Vergil's got a boo boo?"
"Come on, the fun's just getting started!" has been changed to "Aw come on, the fun's just getting started!"
These changes both match the voice over work while keeping the subtitles in-line with the rest of the game's subtitle work.
- Re-added fixed subtitles for Dante's dialogue that's spoken should you lose and wait around on the orb selection screen.
-
Version 3.03
- Reverted a few previous subtitle changes.
Plenty of subtitles have been restored to their vanilla look while keeping fixes intact such as typo fixes or consistency formatting fixes - Reduced filesize of the mod.
While this mod is very small in filesize to begin with, the changes implemented in this Version allowed the removal of files no longer being utilised and as such the mod should be smaller overall
- Reverted a few previous subtitle changes.
-
Version 3.02
- Fixed a cutscene subtitle error in Mission 11 (thanks to YeastWhest for pointing this error out to me!)
By default this cutscene subtitle will display as "By the way...I guess owe you one", which has now been fixed and changed to "By the way...I guess I owe you one." - Added optional file as per a request:
Removed Starring Text from HUD
- Fixed a cutscene subtitle error in Mission 11 (thanks to YeastWhest for pointing this error out to me!)
-
Version 3.01
- Properly capitalised enemy title introductions
Example:
"Brutal instinct" has been changed to "Brutal Instinct" - Properly capitalised boss title introductions
Example:
"Diabolical amalgam" has been changed to "Diabolical Amalgam"
- Properly capitalised enemy title introductions
-
Version 3.00
- Reverted some subtitle changes while keeping formatting consistency fixes for them.
Some dialogue subtitles have been reverted back to their original text but still intends to keep formatting consistency if these texts needed it. This change occurred because my aim is to keep the game as vanilla as possible while improving text, not changing it to include additional text, even if said additional text fits (e.g. laughter text)
- Reverted some subtitle changes while keeping formatting consistency fixes for them.
-
Version 2.73
- Adjusted Right Menu text for consistency reasons.
"Playing As:" has been changed to "Playing As" without the colon to be consistent with the other Right Menu text - Known Issues:
Cutscene dialogue between Nero and Nico in the epilogue isn't edited like the rest of the games subtitles to be consistent with each other.
This will be fixed in the next Version.
- Adjusted Right Menu text for consistency reasons.
-
Version 2.71
- Properly Capitalised Weapon Title Introductions.
Example: "New legendary devil sword" has been changed to "New Legendary Devil Sword" (refer to the screenshots section for a visual on this change) - Changed the title screens "HISTORY OF DMC" text to "HISTORY OF DEVIL MAY CRY".
This is arguably a subjective improvement. You can revert this change by deleting title.msg.14 from the extracted ZIP file and then re-packaging the remaining files into a ZIP file again
- Properly Capitalised Weapon Title Introductions.
-
Version 2.64
- Adjusted the text that appears when you unlock a new difficulty to be consistent with previous text improvements.
For example, "mode" has been replaced with "difficulty" where applicable but "mode" has been kept where apporopriate:
A new difficulty has been unlocked: Dante Must Die.
A new mode has been unlocked: Bloody Palace. - Adjusted the text that appears when you start a new game to be consistent with previous text improvements.
When starting a new game, difficulty options and their descriptions will appear, these have been changed to match the descriptions found in the mission select menu
- Adjusted the text that appears when you unlock a new difficulty to be consistent with previous text improvements.
-
Version 2.63
- Added Menus Only version.
This version only adjusts the menus and does not alter spoken dialogue subtitles
This version is currently a match for Version 2.62 and will be updated to Version 2.64 in the future - Added Subtitles Only version.
This version only adjusts the subtitles and does not alter menus
This includes the Kalina Ann II Gallery description text fix and has currently been updated to Version 2.70 to match subtitle changes made in that version
- Added Menus Only version.
-
Version 2.62
- Replaced instances of the word "mode" with "difficulty" in difficulty descriptions to be more consistent with previous changes
- Changed "CONTROLS" to "CONTROLS (Controller)" to match "CONTROLS (Keyboard)" and "CONTROLS (Mouse)"
-
Version 2.52
- Replaced "GAME MODE" text found above the difficulty description with "DIFFICULTY INFO" in the Mission Select menu.
This makes it more consistent with the "GAME MODE" text change found in Version 2.51
- Replaced "GAME MODE" text found above the difficulty description with "DIFFICULTY INFO" in the Mission Select menu.
-
Version 2.51
- Improved "Right Menu" texts.
Changed "GAME MODE" text on the Right Menu to now display as "DIFFICULTY"*
Changed the "PLAYER" text on the Right Menu to now display as "PLAYING AS:"
*When playing as Vergil, this text is replaced with "VERGIL" and I have currently not found the file used for this text. This will be changed to DIFFICULTY if the appropriate file is located - Fixed small typo regarding the improved Void description.
Changed "The Void" text in description to "the Void", being consistent with other game menu text
- Improved "Right Menu" texts.
-
Version 2.5
- Improved Photo Mode UI text information
- Improved description for the Void used in the Main Menu
- Improved many subtitle dialogues used throughout missions with very minor consistency edits
-
Version 2.4
- Further improves Enemy Step description to make mention of cancelling and air action resets.
Thanks to endneo for helping me improve the description here! - Further formatting fixes to prevent squished text in graphics options descriptions
- Further improves Enemy Step description to make mention of cancelling and air action resets.
-
Version 2.3
- Further improved graphics settings descriptions for Motion Blur, Screen Space Reflections and Subsurface Scattering
- Chromatic Aberration description text updated to fix incorrect spelling.
This was a mistake by me, made in Version 2.1 and is not present in the base game
-
Version 2.2
- Contains minor formatting fixes to text spacing to prevent squishy description text in the graphics option menu
- Fixed one of the subtitle fixes by me in a previous update using incorrect capital letter.
"Aw, Little Vergil's got a boo boo?" has been changed to "Aw, little Vergil's got a boo boo?"
-
Version 2.1
- Improved all graphics settings descriptions to better explain what they do.
This includes utilising the same text from Resident Evil 2 (2019) that described some of the same graphics options much better for some of the available options
- Improved all graphics settings descriptions to better explain what they do.
-
Version 2.0
- Improved a few graphics settings descriptions to better detail what these do (primarily Motion Blur, Ambient Occlusion, Screen Space Reflections, Subsurface Scattering, etc.)
- Added extra text to Enemy Step description for all characters (Nero, V, Dante and Vergil) to explain that the ability can be used to cancel out of moves
- Fixed typo error in Mission 03 Nero gameplay dialogue subtitles.
"So this Qliphoth... Screw it. We're taking that fucking thing down." has been changed to "So this Qliphoth... Screw it. We're taking this fucking thing down." to match the voice over work - Added extra text to Mission 05 Griffon gameplay dialogue subtitles.
"So? You got a comeback for that?" has been changed to "Ohohoho! So? You got a comeback for that?" to match the voice over work - Fixed typo error in one of Cavaliere Angelo's dialogue subtitles.
"May my lightening burneth thy flesh!" has been changed to "May my lightning burneth thy flesh!" (I am unsure if this subtitle or line of dialogue is ever used, however it has been fixed regardless) - Fixed typo error in Mission 18 timeline section.
"As the life ebbed from the Urizen," has been changed to "As the life ebbed from Urizen," for consistency - Added extra text to Mission 18 Dante cutscene dialogue subtitles.
"Hey guys, where ya been?" has been changed to "Hmph. Hey guys, where ya been?" to match the voice over work - Added extra text to Mission 18 Dante cutscene dialogue subtitles.
"You're gonna wish you did." has been changed to "Hah. You're gonna wish you did." to match the voice over work - Added extra text to Mission 18 Griffon gameplay dialogue subtitles.
"What a mess!" has been changed to "Ahahahaha! What a mess!" to match the voice over work - Added extra text in subtitles that display for Dante during Mission 19/20 as Vergil if you lose.
"That really all you got? Little Vergil got a boo boo?" has been changed to "Is that really all you got? Aw, little Vergil got a boo boo?" to match the voice over work

-
Version 4.01 has released. Check the Changelogs section for more information.
Be sure to checkout my latest mod, Small Devil May Cry Fix-up Pack! Quality of Life Text Fixes (Fixes only ver.) is included with this!
"Quality of Life Text Fixes" is a small set of... well, fixes that correct a small amount of erroneous text found in Devil May Cry 5, ranging from incorrect subtitles to mistakes in descriptions. Additionally included in this mod are a set of changes to a range of text with the goal of improving the text over the vanilla game.
If you are not interested in the improvements part of the mod, a Fixes Only file exists for you to download that excludes all of these subjective improvements.
Please refer to the screenshots and Changelogs sections respectively for more information on what the mod changes specifically.
This mod is compatible with SSSiyan's Collaborative Cheat Trainer and will always aim to be compatible. The trainer relies on message files for some of its settings and I do not aim to conflict with the best mod made for the game.
