I'm getting blue reflections on all shiny things with this mod, is this intended and if not, any ideas what's wrong?

    Hello,
I am rather new to modding and have come across an issue when trying to mod my game. I didn't find the installation guide in the description very intuitive or helpful at all for a beginner such as myself. I removed the original files from the mtd folder in the directory, and added the mod's files in there. Upon doing so, some textures have turned black in Firelink Shrine.
I then tried to revert the directory to normal; I took the mod's files out of the mtd folder in the directory, and put the original mtd files back in the metd folder, but the problem persists.

I do not know how to make a backup of files, or what is meant by that, and I don't understand how to overwrite the original files with the mod's files. I don't understand the installation guide, and I don't know how to revert my game back to normal anymore. I hope someone could assist me. I would be very, very grateful for any help, thank you! :)

Backup means to make a copy of the folder named something else. eg. "mtd - BACKUP"
Don't backup individual files, just make a copy of the whole folder then overwrite the original with the mod. If you ever want to remove the mod, delete the modded folder and rename "mtd - BACKUP" back to "mtd".

You appear to have accidentally deleted files not associated with the mod. That's why you backup whole folders or for people who like modding lots of stuff, the whole game.

You've probably done it already by now but you'll have to get steam to verify integrity of game cache to restore the missing files. This will also overwrite any mods you've installed.

Can you fix this so that the water at the Gaping Dragon isn't completely destroyed? It looks horrible in the cutscene

Hey, this mod is pretty cool! Makes the game look much better already.

However, I noticed a problem and I don't know if this is inherent to this mod or if it's a problem with Evie's Ultra HD Dark Souls REMASTERED Retex but normal mapping in the environments as well as on armor is rendered very strangely now. The specular color on the armor is no longer white but rather purple, like the color of your typical normal map pretty much. I notice this the most on not only every weapon and armor that has metal on it but also in the Undead Burg and Firelink Shrine. Is there a way to fix it, perhaps?

Edit: After some back and forth on Discord with the mod creator, we came to the conclusion that the problem does not lie with DSR Materials Update (especially after resetting the materials to default) but rather with Evie's Ultra HD DSR Retex. This mod is safe to use.

That's a very good question. If you're referring to the way armors like the Elite Knight set look flat/less detailed in the remaster, unfortunately no.
The problem with armors is actually pretty nuanced, and it affects just about everything in the game that's made of metal. Basically they changed the game's shaders to be more realistic, ie. physically-based, but they didn't alter the game's textures to accommodate for this, so the old textures don't play well with the new shaders.
I've experienced this same thing firsthand with some of my own projects, and the only way to fix it is to rework the textures to suit the new shaders.

Edit: Nevermind I just checked and they did change the textures, and they look way less detailed than the originals. So the textures are still the problem, just not for the reasons I thought.

That comment at the end made me curious. So if somebody would simply take the textures from the Prepare to Die Ediion and port them to the Remastered version, would that improve the overal texture quality?

Looks awesome, but can I potentially be banned for using this mod?

It's extremely unlikely. If you're worried about it you can keep a backup of your save files, as it's really just your saves that get soft-banned.
A file mod like this isn't any more likely to get you soft-banned than a texture mod.

Awesome - glad someone noticed the water looked more like slime in the Remaster than actual liquid. This restores it to what it's *supposed* to look like.

To be fair, the water wasn't changed much, if at all, in the Remaster. It's always looked like slime.

It's mostly small things, general fixes and improvements to make the materials look nicer and more consistent. The biggest difference is water, which now has more realistic reflectivity. Also lava isn't as obscenely bright, and I restored the detail bump on the Gaping Dragon to what it was in the original release.
I'll be adding more things in the future.

dude this looks great! i know the focus in the screenshots provided seems to be the water, but this mod seems to add a subtle shine to most armors and surfaces too. i noticed some extra shine on petrus' shield right away. seeing as how cool this mod is, i'm hoping you might know of some other ways to mod the visuals of DSR? i mean besides the obvious reshades and textures. specifically i'd love to adjust values of the in-game motion blur and ambient occlusion. the motion blur is a little too strong, and the AO isnt strong enough. i know chances are slim but i figured i'd ask you anyway.

Dark Souls has a lot of rendering parameters that can be modified, but neither of the tools to do so (ParamEdit and Param Vessel) support the remaster currently. But even then there aren't any parameters for AO or motion blur, if there are any settings for those they're probably in the .exe itself, so you might be out of luck.
