- Download the latest Version of the ModEngine2. - Extract the whole content where ever u want it to be and open the folder.
(OPTIONAL): - Open Steam. Go to your libary. Right click DS3, on the list left side of the client, go to "manage" and click on "Browse locale files". - Now Windows 10/11 should open up the DS3 installation folder. Double click on the "Game" folder and let this window open! - Put both windows (ModEngine2 and your install folder of DS3) next to each other. - Hold ctrl & left click on the following files in the ModEngine2 folder: mod and modenine2 folder, config_darksouls3.toml, launchmod_darksouls3.bat and the modengine2_launcher.exe. - Drag & Drop them into your DS3 folder, where your ds3.exe is located.
- Make a shortcut of the launchmod_darksouls3.bat file onto your desktop, so you can easely start the game from there. - Download the Draw Distance Increased -ULTIMATE- Mod. - Extract the .zip and give it the name "DrawDistance". - Take the new created "DrawDistance" folder and put it into the "mod" folder of ModEngine2. - Open the "config_darksouls3.toml" file with a text editor. - Copy the following line: { enabled = true, name = "DrawDistance", path = "mod\\DrawDistance" }, - Replace it where it says: { enabled = true, name = "default", path = "mod" } - Save it and run the shortcutted batch file on your desktop
Enjoy :)
P.S. I think with this method, you might prevent to get banned. NO GUARANTEE! I did the same, went online a couple of hours and didn't got banned. We didn't replaced the original "Data0.bdt" located in the root folder of DS3, so maybe thats the reason why. Technically, you now can follow this guide for all other mods here on nexus. For me, it worked with Dualsense (PS5) Button Icons and Shadow Mod too (same method).
Thanks for the guide. It fixed all the annoying texture pop ins for me. I've also been online with no issues. mostly PvE though.
However I haven't been able to get the other mods to work (same ones you mentioned) How do you have your "config_darksouls3.toml" file? I think I'm missing adding them there
Edit: I was able to get all mods working, and it looks awesome! This is how my ModEngine2 "config_darksouls3.toml" mod section looks like:
Hi, I can confirm that I was able to play online coop and pvp with this mod for 4 hours but I have to use UXM Selective Unpacker.
so what I did was: - back up first the original Data0.bdt - copy and replace the modded Data0.bdt - open UXM Selective Unpacker - find .exe file > SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III\Game\DarkSoulsIII.exe - click unpack, wait until it finish - then click patch, done - play online
This mod absolutely takes the visuals to another level, in many parts of the game. Its funny how underrated it is. Maybe its because of the missing screenshot comparisons.

This is how my ModEngine2 "config_darksouls3.toml" mod section looks like:
[extension.mod_loader]
enabled = true
loose_params = false
mods = [
{ enabled = true, name = "DrawDistance", path = "mod\\DrawDistance" },
{ enabled = true, name = "TextureOverhaul", path = "mod\\TextureOverhaul" },
{ enabled = true, name = "DualsenseIcons", path = "mod\\DualsenseIcons" },
{ enabled = true, name = "ShadowMod", path = "mod\\ShadowMod" }
]
Anybody know why this is happening? I followed the instructions in the Little Guide for 2024
Edit.
I feel so stupid, didn't realise I could just replace the Data0.bat with yours, bypassing ModEngine.
This works fine for me as I never play online anyway. Thanks for the awesome mod, game looks so much better without all the damn pop in!
but I have to use UXM Selective Unpacker.
so what I did was:
- back up first the original Data0.bdt
- copy and replace the modded Data0.bdt
- open UXM Selective Unpacker
- find .exe file > SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III\Game\DarkSoulsIII.exe
- click unpack, wait until it finish
- then click patch, done
- play online
Did you get banned?
I'm also trying to figure it out : (
