This mod enables dynamic shadows in all outdoor areas of the game. This greatly improves the quality of shadows and fixes light bugs in many areas.

Enabling shadows
After installing, be sure to enable shadows. When in game, go to System > Graphics > Advanced Settings and make sure that Shadow quality is set to Low, Medium, High, or Max.
If Shadow quality is set to Off, this mod will be turned off and have no effect.
This mod only includes MSB and GPARAM file replacements. It does not change any code or save data.
It should be safe for online play if installed with UXM.
The performance impact of this mod varies between areas and can be adjusted using the Shadow quality setting in game. Generally, the performance impact is as follows:
| Shadow Quality | Compared to vanilla | Compared to Shadows Off |
| -------------- | ------------------- | ----------------------- |
| Off | 0% | 0% |
| Low | 15% | 20% |
| Medium | 15% | 20% |
| High | 17% | 25% |
| Max | 25% | 40% |
(Comparisons to vanilla use the same Shadow quality setting. So this is the performance impact if you leave your settings as is.)
I recommend setting Shadow quality to High or Max. Medium has similar performance to High, but looks worse. Low is simply not worth it, because it has the same performance cost as Medium.
Note: If Shadow quality is set to Off, this mod will be turned off and will have no performance impact at all.
Why does my character not have shadows?
DS3 has a feature (or bug?) that causes your character to not cast shadows when your Hollowing level is ≥15. Unlike Elden Ring, summons and invading phantoms (both online and offline) never have shadows (even if they wear the Untrue Dark ring).
Is this compatible with mod X?
This mod is generally compatible with all mods that do not change the same files. So all ReShade, armour & weapon changes, texture changes, LOD increase, and UI mods should be compatible.
If the other mod does change some of the files this mod changes, then there is currently no way to make them compatible.
A huge thank you to the folks over at ?ServerName?! This mod would not have been possible without the tools and resources they provide.
Used tools:
- Yabber+
- UXM Selective Unpacker (https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/1651)
- DSMapStudio (https://github.com/soulsmods/DSMapStudio)
- DS3 DebugMenuEx v1.1
- SoulsFormats (C# library)
Screenshots were created using the developer free cam and the screen capture tool inside the debug menu and compare Max shadow quality to Off. All screenshots were taken in 8k (or higher) and downscaled to 4k to get nice antialiasing.
