About this mod

A vanilla-friendly and customizable groundcover for Daggerfal Unity. Adds grass and, optionally, water plants, stones and flowers to the terrain of Daggerfall Unity.

Permissions and credits

A mod for Daggerfall Unity that provides a groundcover with grass, plants, flowers and other terrain details.


  1. Copy realgrass.dfmod file inside DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods.
  2. (optional) Copy vibrantwind.dfmod file inside DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods to enable weather-dependent wind speed.


This mod has settings that affect size, density, disposition and render distance. These are the most important one:

  • Grass -> Size: The size of grass is determined by a minimum and a maximum value for height and width. This is the size at the highest point: grass grows from snow during the first days of spring, and fade back to snow at the end of  fall.
  • Grass -> Density: Min and max values of grass patches per terrain tiles. Higher density improves the overall visual quality at the cost of performance.
  • WaterPlants: Adds vegetation near water areas, like lakes and river, for different climates.
  • Others: Enable other terrain details like stones.
  • Advanced -> DetailDistance: The distance from camera beyond which the grass will be culled; this is the most expensive setting. Lower values can increase performance while higher values reduce "popup".

Settings can be changed from the main menu or in-game with standard console command change_modsettings (pick Real Grass from the list).


This mod can be uninstalled without issues deleting realgrass.dfmod and vibrantwind.dfmod from DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods.
