Ok, I need help. It could just be me missing something but it also could be a bug so I thought I’d ask here. In the quest concerning a cult in Daggerfall, I have been all over the dungeon where the cult meets and have even been attacked by waves of enemies but that quest doesn’t update and I can’t tell if there is something I am missing or that I need to do. I’m wondering if there is a bug or mod incompatibility.
You should find the quest item (a formal cloak) somewhere in the dungeon, which is a proof that the cult is meeting there - after picking the cloak up, a text message should appear about it.
If you don't find the cloak, you could use the console command "tele2qitem" while in the dungeon - this should transport you directly to the cloak's location.
Let me know if this worked or not (and if not, what happend instead, and if you use the smaller dungeons options)?
Hi there, I just finished "A courier in Distress?" by telling to the quest giver in Whiteborne that I took care of the assassin. She thanked me and gave me some gold but the quest didn't end:
The quest log have not been updated:
What can I do to fix that?
Is it safe to endquest MDBHC002B since I still have this quest running? And what about the log update, anything I can do?
Edit: The quest disappeared when I traveled to Daggerfall but its status had not been updated, the quest has just been terminated and lies in the quest cemetary. I feel like this chain of events could be improved, it was pretty confusing.
How do you start this? I had a message about someone dying and leaving me with a note in a random small hamlet where I was stopping for a guild quest, the note provided gives me a name, but no one will talk about the person.
First, for the quest to start properly, you either need a new character, or you need to start in manually in console while you are in Daggerfall region. It won't work correctly if started manually in a different region.
Then, if not sure, you can have a look in the walkthrough PDF included in the download :)
Hello, I started using your mod on a new playthrough. Like the commenters below, I cannot progress past that quest either. It's the very first quest in the line.
The game states: "You were given 0 days to find Perynak Hawksley for gathering information and reporting these to Barbyna Hawksley, but you took too long. In the meantime, the related persons have left Daggerfall and it won't be possible to finish the investigations. A bad day for the Black Horse Courier's reputation, that's for sure." Really a bummer because I actually did want to support the local newspaper.
I spoke to Perynak, got info, and reported to Barbyna. She thanked me and said she'd be in touch. The quest journal just never updated. It seems like a pretty straightforward problem to me, hopefully that's actually the case.
Okay, about the issue with the first quest failing despite you reported successfully to the editor: It seems I forgot to stop the 3-days timer after the winning task was executed, so the timer was still running and timed out in the end.
Spoiler:
Show
If you got the "small win" in the 1st quest, the still running 3-days-timer ended the quest before another timer used for starting the 2nd quest (variant A) would be reached (5 to 8 days), so the story came to a halt.
If you got the "big win", the 2nd quest (variant B) would have been started immediately after winning the 1st quest (but you would still have gotten the wrong failure message).
Ok, I am having another problem again. I talked to the right person this time, except they told me theyd get into contact again with me in a few days, but in the process of waiting, I failed the quest because I didn't talk to them yet, even though I did.
it happens with the person I am supposed to talk to in Lyceum. It happens after I get the story from the initial person. Once I get the story from them, they won't talk to me after when I click them. Then, when I go to the Lyceum, and I talk to the person I need to talk to there, they tell me I did a good job, and give me 42 coins. But then they never contact me, and I fail the quest while I am waiting. The game tells me I had 3 days to talk to them, and that I failed.
I've had the same bug at the start of the questline. Typing 'print_quests' into the console shows that both the 'The Dying Reporter' and 'Maybe a Scoop' are still running. Also, the newspaper is stuck as a quest item even after talking to him (which makes sense I quess, his quest never finished.)
Is the editor supposed to appear at a specific time? The quest tells me to go speak to her at the Daggerfall Lyceum, but she isn't there. The shop keeper in the Lyceum even tells me she is around here somewhere in the Lyceum, but she isn't. I searched every corner of the shop.
If the shop keeper at the Lyceum tells you she is there, she really is there (other NPCs only tell this when DFU has placed them). Have you searched each and every room? (If you can upload me a savegame, I can check for you.)
Hello, I start new game with this mod, and told to go to Kinghouse Residence in Daggerfall. I go, but the person I supposed to talk to isn't there. What to do? Thanks!
Thank you! Oh, that's a quite funny typo -- thanks for pointing it out! I will fix it.
English is not my first language. I usually write the texts first in Word with a spellchecker and then double-check the "finished" texts with Google translate (I put my English texts into the translator and see if it is able to translate the text back to my first language -- if it doesn't, it's usually because I made grammar mistakes). Then I copy the text to the source code. But sometimes I make additions or corrections directly in the source code and forget to check these changes.
By the way there is more content to come in small updates over the next weeks, and I will (try) to make these savegame compatible, too.
That's neat! I don't play Daggerfall that much, but I do like keeping track of its mods. And it is definitely great to see a content mod such as this, with quests and stuff.
Also, I know that you've taken the name of the newspaper from TES IV Oblivion. But what do you think about changing the name to something new? Since it is an entirely different province. I'm influenced mostly by TES III: Tamriel Rebuilt team, who made this newspaper "The Bellman" for their Old Ebonhert city. It's pretty much a Black Horse Courier of the Morrowind province. So, maybe you'll be interested to name it with something more Daggerfall-themed?
But I understand if you want to leave the connection to the khajjiti brothers
Hehe, actually after the latest TR release with the Ebonheart Bellman I indeed was thinking of renaming it to "Iliac Bay Herald". But then I would need to change the Khajiit background story, too, and I put a lot of time in these texts already. ^^

In your first screenshot, it tells you what to do:
So the quest stays open until you return to Daggerfall city.
When you arrive in Daggerfall city, the next quest, MDBHC003 is started automatically and MDBHC002A is stopped.
Note that the text says the prophet is preaching at noon, so you will only stumble upon the prophet between 11:30 and 13:30 each day.
Am I locked out of the quest line?

In the next 5 days, I will be away from my gaming PC; any bug reports or issues will be looked at afterwards.

I am currently preparing version 0.4 of the quest and I will check the quest to find a fix.

Also, not sure if it is a pun or a typo on the first screenshot: demoninations instead denominations
