Weapon Widget 1.5+ allows custom filenames (and other options) to be assigned to item template indices. This allows weapons to use completely new texture sets for the HUD animations while Tome of Battle 1.7+ allows item template indices to be registered with specific values for TOB features like Reach, Cleave, Draw Scaling, Draw Time, Missile properties etc. This allows TOB features to be expanded to new weapons without requiring an update to TOB every time.
WARNING! THIS MOD IS BOTH WIP AND EXPERIMENTAL! Future updates may, due to Item Template editing, shuffling or replacement, cause existing items become differently treated, unfunctional or broken. Do not be surprised if updating to a new version causes items to become unequippable or unusable.
I've added an update method that should "regenerate" any items added by this mod should their Item Templates not match but it may not work for all cases. In these cases, just drop them onto the ground (either in a dungeon or exterior) and they should despawn forever when you move to a different map pixel. You can use Useful Console Commands to retrieve an item of the same type if necessary and refund the gold used for any enchantments lost.
The currently available weapons are:
- CROSSBOWS - Uses the Archery skill. With TOB, it will always have maximum projectile speed regardless of draw time, unlike Long Bows and Short Bows, but also has a quite lengthy reload time. Damage range, reload time and missile properties can be edited in the Mod Settings.
- SPEARS - Uses the Long Blade skill. With TOB, it will have the longest reach of any melee weapon (by default) especially when used in a Thrust. Damage range, weapon reach, cleave and default mirrored view (for those wishing to swap their hands on the spear) can all be configured in the Mod Settings.
- KNUCKLES (WIP, fully functional but does not have final graphics, disabled by default) - Uses the Hand-to-Hand skill. Coming in paired gloves, this weapon adds bonus material damage on top of your Hand-to-Hand and can be enchanted. Does not bypass material resistances like pure Hand-to-Hand though.
As the weapons themselves are quite simple to implement, the only limitation is really the assets. Stay tuned as more weapons may arrive, and maybe even additional gimmicks depending on updates to TOB and WW. Once I am confident that no more changes to the registry are necessary, I will also post the workflow to allow others to implement custom weapons in their own mods using TOB and WW.
MOD COMPATIBILITY
These new weapons are basically just regular weapons under the hood with additional hooking on TOB and WW's side to give them the new graphics and behaviors. They should be mostly compatible with combat or loot rebalance mods and such unless the mod explicitly only includes vanilla item templates. For example, the Crossbow is still a "bow" so it is valid to shoot any custom projectiles added by Arrow Variety by Excoriated.
