About this mod

Proudly wear the sign of your love and friendship for another Vault Hunter, and gain some of their special abilities.

This mod replaces the 6 types of Aggression Relics by Friendship Relics corresponding to the 6 Vault Hunters. So you can see what Anarchy does to Salvador, enjoy M0ney Sh0t with a number, and see how B0ring Axton can be. More details on the effects of the relics are given below.

And yes, you can even be your own best friend.
But don't.

Friendship Relics

Note: most of the Friendship benefits do depend on the level of Friendship indicated on the relic.

Axton's Buddy
+ Grenade Damage
- Shield Recharge Delay
Friendship Benefits: Grit (with Second Wind sound, and some health restore but not 50%), and ability to throw grenades in FFYL.

Gaige's BFF
+ Gun Damage
- Gun Accuracy
Friendship Benefits: Close Enough.

Krieg's Meat Bicycle
+ Melee Damage
+ Explosive Damage
Friendship Benefits: Health steal from melee attacks, and bonus Kill Skill duration.

Maya's Worshiper
+ Corrode Damage
+ SMG Damage
Friendship Benefits: Chain Reaction (passive), and Restoration (heal friends and Sabre Turret/Deathtrap with bullets, not with rockets).

El amigo de Salvador
+ Fire Rate
+ Ammo Regen
Friendship Benefits: Money Shot (no sound, and bonus does not depend on mag size).

Zer0's Challenge
+ Melee Damage
+ Critical Hit Damage
Friendship Benefits: B0re, and Killing Bl0w.

Installation and Compatibility

Use BLCMM for installation:
  • Install BLCMM
  • In BLCMM > Tools > Setup game files for mods: enable the Mod support options, and any other you may want.
  • Open FriendshipRelics.blcm in BLCMM (or use File > Import Single mod, if you want to combine it with other mods)
  • In BLCMM > File > Save as: select "Open BL2 Binaries Dir", and save it under any name you like (e.g. myfriends.blcm)
  • Launch your game, and get to the main menu with New Game, Character selection, etc.
  • Press "Esc" to exit to the title menu with "Press any key to continue" (this step may not be necessary, depending on your platform).
  • Open the console (using the key you selected when setting up your game files for mods in BLCMM), and type e.g. "exec myfriends.blcm".
  • Close the console and you're good to go.

The psycho DLC is required for Krieg's relic to be fully functional.
The Tiny Tina DLC is required for proper display of the Friendship attribute on the relics (but they should still work without it).

You can try to combine it with other mods, using BLCMM. There are however risks of incompatibilities:
  • Friendship Relics frees up and repurposes 10 vanilla attributes. There may be conflicts with mods that use these attributes in their vanilla form. The risk is highest with character reworks / skill adaptations, and gear that gives some player stats bonuses. That said, you should be fine if you stay away from any modded skill or gear item that gives damage resistance and/or team bonuses. Otherwise, it probably won't crash the game, but will most likely make the Friendship Relics not work as intended.
  • Friendship Relics steals some presentation attributes from other basic relics (Vitality, Protection, Resistance, Stockpile, Strength). So there may be some display issues when combined with mods that touch those other relics.
  • Friendship Relics also (optionally) messes up the Blood of Terramorphous relic, and the Whisky Tango Foxtrot shield. So again, potential clashes with any mod that touches these two items.

Overall, Friendship relics is not particularly high on the list of universally compatible mods. I didn't test, but I would expect at least some sort of conflicts with UCP, or idk Reborn and stuff like that. Maybe nothing game breaking, though.

Notes

Balance and difficulty

It goes without saying that this mod is perfectly balanced and is absolutely not a cheat mod.

uhm.

Actually, this mod also increases enemy health and damage (by 1%).
So you can safely tell yourself and your friends that the overall difficulty of the game is in fact increased.

(More seriously, these relics can certainly be overpowered in the right hands. But for a more balanced experience, you can restrict yourself to the white/green versions of the relics.)

Known issues

  • When the B0re penetrating effect is activated by equipping Zer0's relic, it will stay activated until you leave the game. This is due to a bug that already affects the B0re skill in vanilla. In this mod, I did partially fix this bug, so that when the relic is not equipped (and B0re not specced into), the damage of bullets should be zer0 after penetration. You may still hear the B0re sound, though.
  • This mod frees up and repurposes some vanilla attributes. There should no longer be any icon signifying that a teammate is wearing a class mod boosting some team stats. There may be some very minor changes to the way some enemies resist elemental status effect damage. And there may be serious conflicts with non-vanilla sources of damage reduction (e.g. a new/modified skill in a character rework, etc).
  • One feature of this mod messes up the Blood of Terramorphous relic (no more health regen), and the Whisky Tango Foxtrot shield (turned into a regular booster). An option is however available to disable this feature, and thus leave those two other items unaffected.

Modding Resource

To some extent this mod is also a modding resource. The technique to redirect attributes in general, and the freed up and repurposed attributes available here, can be used or adapted for other mods, as long as proper and visible credit is given.
