A clean install refers to deleting all contents of your mods folder, including .modtek folder
It is also advised to validate your game files
Modtek soundmod and other alternative mod files will be reapplied by the installer

"Usually fixed by making a real clean install of your btech and roguetech
and this
Delete C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\profiles.dat (best delete it all)
Delete C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\HarebrainedSchemes (delete it all too)
Delete Steam\userdata\[USERID]\637090\remote\C0\settings_cloud.sav
Validate files and reapply btml(and sound mod)
Reduce GFX settings
Play"
