Installing and Uninstalling - Ember's Lute Version 2

    Installing
The recommended way to install Version 2 is to use the in-game BG3 Mod Manager (IGMM).
The .pak files for version 2 on this Nexus page** are intended for those who either prefer not to use the IGMM, or are updating from Version 1 mid-campaign.

** You can also download the same .pak files for version 2 from the mod.io pages for this mod. I won't link directly as unsure on the Nexus policy for this, but it is easy enough to find by name searching.

    Uninstalling
Windows users: uninstallation steps are the same as for version 1 (see below).
Console users: mod uninstallation from a campaign is not possible without rolling back to an earlier save before the mod was added....

  • Version 2 - Troubleshooting Updates - Locking Errors - Stuck Blue Arrows Etc

First off, hello and thank you to all existing and new subscribers to my music mods! The first month of patch 7 is just about over and it's been busy! My modding time has been quite distracted with trying to get to the bottom of a pretty frustrating issue causing updates to lock in the official BG3 Mod Manager, and while I can't "fix" it on my side (bug report to Larian made), I do finally have some updates on the likely cause and workarounds to suggest.

    Update 14th October 2024
I have now replaced virtual textures with standard textures in the latest version of each music mod: Ember's Lute, Haunted Instruments and Celestial Instruments. When Larian are able to fix virtual textures in mods, I may put some of them back to restore the subtle pulsing effect on some of the i...

  • A Guide for Updating to Version 2

Version 2.n of Ember's Lute and Haunted Instruments

Since version 2 of my music performance mods are more like re-writes than updates, I've put this article together with the intention of helping you decide whether or not to update to version 2, or stay on version 1.

This article applies to both Ember's Lute and Haunted Instruments. If you only have Ember's Lute installed, the guide is still relevant as written.

What is Different in Version 2.n?

I kept things as like-for-like as I could, but it wasn't possible to create an exact copy of the music performance mods in the toolkit, so there are some differences. Most differences overall are good (and that's a biased judgement, of course).

    Version 1.n requires Norbyte's Sc...

  • Ember's Lute and Haunted Instruments - Patch 7

    Patch 7 is Here

Very exciting. And if you're super keen and brave enough to jump straight in before all the post-release dust has settled, then here are a few tips specific to my instrument and music mods on Nexus.

    Version 2.n on Mod.io
There is a version 2.0 of both Ember's Lute and Haunted Instruments live on mod.io.
However, please be aware the version 2.0 mods are complete re-writes - for reasons I won't get into, other than just to say it wasn't possible to convert or import everything.

My recommendation for now is there's no real need to update to version 2.n for patch 7, the version 1.n mods are working as they are on both patch 6 and patch 7.

Functionally, the version 2.0 mods don't add anything new, and are in fact...

  • Interrupting Music Performance Issues

Help, My Music Performances Keep Stopping After a Couple of Seconds

This symptom is 99% (statistic made up on the spot for emphasis) caused by either:

    Another mod breaking music performances
A mod compatibility issue that I may need to patch in support for

The first thing to try is to update to minimum version 1.2.7.2 of Ember's Lute. This update included some music performance resilience changes which were intended to reduce the chance that another mod might cancel down the performing statuses. It won't be able to prevent 100% of possible ways that another mod might conflict and cause interruptions, but I am hopeful it will avoid one of the most common ways it happens.

A second thing to try is installing the musicperformworkaro...
