1.1 changed how this mod gets applied to direct manual override because I don't like the ingame error (fixable with current Mod Fixer) that .pak mods produce when recompiling the story (google if you want more information). When Larian releases official modding tools I will probably go back to packaged mod. You can now also directly edit the XPTable if you so wish.
I'm close to finishing the game and had this mod installed for most of the playthrough (from about level 5, right around the time this kicks in, so it's as if it was there since I started) and figured I'd give a quick bit of information about how it affects progression. The 20% version kept me on level with enemies throughout, never felt like I could steamroll everything because I was overleveled, so that's good. It's also fairly easy to reach max level, but keep in mind that even if you do everything, you'll be well into act III by the time you get to level 12. If you do an evil playthrough, where I hear there is somewhat less to do because you cut off certain questlines through evil choices, it might take long.
Overall, great mod, the 20% variant seems to be the sweet spot for a completionist playthrough.
I think I figured what's up, when you install the mod on an ongoing save. I could be wrong, but it kind of checks out.
it will retroactively change your XP for that level to match where you would have been with the mod applied. The game tracks your entire lifetime XP for that character and places you there. This would mean that you could even go down a level under normal circumstances. This is impossible, you cannot "level down", but for the game's logic that is what happens and afterwards gives you your allotted XP on the new XP table this mod provides.
Now what actually happens is that you simply keep your current level, but after applying the mod you're closer to a level up then before xD After you level up with this mod applied, at least as far as I can tell, the mod works as intended. I believe this is caused because of how the XP data is stored in the save files.
I tested this out by applying the 110% mod when I had ~300 current level XP unmodded (level 4). I dropped to ~100 XP for the current level. When I applied the 120% XP mod though which should require more XP per level up, what happed is that I got a ton of XP, almost leveled up to level 5. What I ended up doing is got more XP and halfway through level 4 I applied the 120% XP mod and it worked perfectly. The XP I had for the level went down and the required XP for next level went up according to the table provided by our humble patron :)
btw, this mod doesn't work with highlight everything mod, there's a conflict of sorts unfortunately.
Just came across this, was actually hard to find a mod that did this and works ( new game needed )
I am running in conjunction with a bunch of difficulty mods , but also level 20 multiclass mod. I'm not expecting this mash-up of mods to survive patches but will see. The hope is for a much more challenging playthrough, get to ACT 3 NOT as overleveled. but a little pay off in the end if I completionist maybe I can reach level 13 or 14 for a boost for a couple of those really hard ACT 3 fights. So far, this is playing like the difficulty and pace the game really needS!
Doesnt work with patch 3, unless it works only on new game. I tried it while being in act 3, used this zombie guy(forgot his english name) to "delevel" thinking it will put me on lower lvl(had max 12) but it didnt.
Only mods I have are texture/face one which arent using bg3 mod manager, mod fixer or any scripts. Just loose files. My game is mostly vanilla. I was already at lvl 12 and 11 with some companions when I found this mod, so it might be too late for it to work. I will try on new playtrough.
What would be the extent of effort you'd have to go through for a 130 version? I read 120 gets a player well into act 3 before maxing out, but I'd like to extend that further, reaching max level right before the end or even not at all.
It looks like Patch 1 has disabled this mod. Sadly this de-leveled my party. :) I was just about to hit level 9, but now that the mod is gone it looks like I should have already hit level 9 but the game still says I'm level 8 with a tiny bit of xp towards 9. Sorry if that is confusing, but it makes sense if you think about how everything works.
For now I'm going to remove the mod and load an older save where I'm towards the end of level 8 so I can continue playing without losing a level! Hopefully the mod author can update this mod so it works with Patch 1, I felt that it really helped.
The launcher says something about a "data mismatch", so the .pak building tools must need an update to output the correct data format, or version number, or something. All mods in pak files may be having the same problem at the moment.
For me it is different. I had a cutscene with Gale, when he left a party for a moment and when he got back, he got a level up (i was currently on lvl 7 and he got promoted to level 8). I checked with other companions and it was the same. After I left them in the camp and then re-joined, they all automatically leveled up. It seems that re-joining them, somehow triggered missing experience :/
Edit: I did manual repack for shared.pak and indeed the changes works like this, but then again, I gain all missed EXP from previous mod setting. Means that I jumped from early lvl 7 to almost lvl 8, ehhhh.
Edit2: I messed a bit with installation and now I cannot make it work again, even with original shared.pak repack. It's driving me crazy.
@AggroTotem: While saying "Manual file override" you meant shared.pak modification or something else?
change Shared to SharedDev or redownload the archive. I did a small last minute change, think you downloaded a version that was only online for about 3 minutes with a small error present. Sorry mate
Hi! Does this work with the Full Release version, and if not, do you have plans to update it? Potentially with a more drastic version as well, like 50% or something? Am looking to play with a more party members mod, but don't want to steamroll everything, so was hoping to use this mod to keep levels lower.

Will test it on new playthrought.

I noticed, however, the math is off. I'm using 120 and my TAV is at Level 9.

Current experience 500. Remaining needed to gain a level: 13500. (14,000 instead of 24,000)

I still see 9000 on level 7:

I doublechecked the path and it seems good (I got a GOG version):
