Have an issue with this mod, especialy with HP reducing part. When i come to SHATTERED SANCTUM, Minthara and Halsin already dead, no matter when i come. Seems to be mods conflict.

Can you tell me what other mods you are using so I can check for a conflict?

Since you said especially the HP reducing part, have you tried with just no death saves and restricted resurrection and found them dead, or only when you have HP reduction enabled?

My apologies, it does seem to be coming from the HP reduction part of this mod. I'm not sure why it would cause that, especially given that Halsin is in his bear form when you first find him. I started a new game with only HP reduction and ran into the issue. Conversely, starting a new game with restricted resurrection and no death saves didn't cause it.

I found that you are safe to install HP reduction after you complete the tutorial. I started a game without it, got to the ravaged beach, closed the game, installed the mod, then loaded the autosave that's created once you reach the ravaged beach. Once I got to the shattered sanctum, I found Minthara and Halsin like normal.

I'll have to do more testing to see if it affects later companions, but following the same logic, uninstalling HP reduction before reaching act 2, then reinstalling after getting to act 2 should work. Same goes for act 3.

I'm looking into other ways of reducing HP that won't cause the same issue, but for now, I'm going to take it out of the main mod and put a disclaimer in the description and download sections.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I hope you didn't lose too much time on this.

I want to start off by commending you for your work on Deadlier Combat. Back in October it was exactly what my four player party was looking for. We'd chosen the reduced hp and no combat resurrection files to go along with tactician plus for our hardcore playthrough and it turned every encounter, no matter how small, into a fight for our lives. It was invigorating and so so rewarding.

When we reached the jail in the shattered sanctum Halsin was dead on the ground. Our sorcerer sounded off that Minthara was missing from her usual spot as well. We tried loading back a few saves and just run in to save Halsin, bypassing any combat first. No luck.

Our warlock suggested it might be a mod conflict as we'd found Astarion dead on the ground when we first encountered him on the ravaged beach. (We're still unsure if that was related to deadlier combat as we were able to res him and interact like normal.) We decided to call it a night there as we'd been playing for quite a few hours, and decided to figure out what was happening sometime before our next session.

This proved to be difficult as we had somewhere around 60-70 mods going at the time. It wasn't until I did some deeper digging (going to each mod's nexus page and very thoroughly reading every single description, article, and post tab) that I found the pinned post on here with someone having the exact same issue.

At our next session we decided to live with the consequences of having both Minthara and Halsin MIA and removed both deadlier combat files. The tiefling celebration after killing the remaining goblin leaders was bittersweet. We were able to complete the creche arc without any issues. However after moving to act 2 when we approach Last Light Inn we are stopped by NPCs who say we need to wait for someone with authority to allow us in. Meanwhile Jaheira is dead on the ground infront of the quartermaster and Isobel can't be interacted with. (We used invisibility to sneak up to her.) We've already had one player drop out at the mere thought of having to restart this nearly 60hr campaign that spanned several weeks of getting 4 busy adults together for some gametime.

tl;dr: girl help Jaheira is dead even though we removed deadlier combat before starting act 2 and my party is mentally in shambles (tested further and reinstalled DC after loading back to the very start of act 2 like you suggested and Jaheira is still dead upon reaching the inn)

I am hoping, praying even, that you would know a way to find a fix for this or find a way to check or alter in-game flags. At the very least to please move the warning for this issue caused by v1.1 of reduced health to the top of the mod description in red.

Edit: We were able to use Resurrect NPCs to revive Jaheira and continue the campaign. This method did not work on Halsin as the game had flagged him as dead, and Minthara's corpse was nowhere to be found.

Thank you for leaving this comment. It's not only wonderfully detailed, it provides a solution for one of the errors caused by this mod.

I'm really sorry about your experience with this mod. It's essentially the worst case scenario I pictured when the bug was brought to my attention. I'm glad you were at least able to revive Jaheira. I'm keeping the original HP reduction method archived until I can find a way to avoid needing to resurrect or uninstall/reinstall at specific points in the game.

I didn't have any issues with Astarion, though. I'm not sure why it would be him as opposed to any other companion you find in the starting area. My suspicion had been that the game is killing/removing the companions that you first meet at higher levels (Halsin, Minthara, Jaheria, Minsc) due to it finding two different HP values for them, one from this mod, and one from a different file not touched by this mod. I assumed the early companions were exempt from this somehow.

I'm very flattered that you've decided to continue using this mod despite the trouble it's caused you and your friends. The experience you mention in the first couple sentences is exactly what I was hoping for. If you don't mind me making a suggestion, I recommend uninstalling the HP reduction pak, and only having it installed when levelling/respeccing. I could also put up a separate add-on for the alt version if you'd like to use that without the removal of death saves.

I don't know if you've seen this mod: Practical Cheats Spells. It includes a resurrection spell and uses Script Extender. I've been looking into this since Script Extender is the only thing I've seen that can alter flags. I'll do some experimenting with it and try a couple commands I found in the Resurrect NPCs posts if the spell itself doesn't work. It won't fix you missing out on Halsin/Minthara, but it could be useful if you run into any further issues.

Would it be possible to make it so that player HP caps out at a certain value? Such as 150 maximum HP?

Any chance you could make a version where resurrection is limited to Withers and death saving throws ARE included? I want a playthrough where I've got permadeath essentially.

Will use a 'help casts' sanctuary to balance the game out a bit

Hello. I wanted to say that i really like the idea and implementation of the mod. I just wanted to ask if there is a possibility to remove the "musical instrument proficiency and the ability to whistle"-feature from the mod? It is just a bit unneccessary. Maybe as an optional file but not in the main file of the mod. Anyway thanks and a happy new year!

It seems that once I install the Alt version, I can't switch over to any other ones in that save going forward. I tried long resting, respeccing, using the uninstall mod, but nothing lets any other version of the mod work

Sorry for the delay in response. I've been trying to recreate the issue, but it's working fine for me.

Is the game crashing or the mod just not working?
Which version of the mod are you trying to switch to?
Did you go through the uninstaller steps listed on the main page, including long resting to remove the debuffs from your party?

Thanks for the very quick response to adding Appearance Edit compatibility! I also wanted to let you know that the first bug you mention, where you have to click on someone's icon in the fight to rejoin after a character dies, is something that happened without the mod installed as well. Having the mod just increases the amount of times you'll probably get that bug, but that's all on Larian, so no worries for you to fix or anything :)

Thanks for the confirmation on that! I thought it might be on Larian's end. I was researching to see if there's a way to remove a character from initiative once they die, but I'm not sure it's possible for party members with the current tools we have. And you're welcome regarding the Appearance Edit compatibility!

Sorry about that! I just updated the main page to include a load order section between installation and updates. I renamed some of the optional files to make it clear which are modular and which are add-ons. Please let me know if something needs more clarity!

Can't update from 1.2 to 1.2.1 Deadlier Combat - Alt Version. Keep crashing my game when I load save.

Am I doing something wrong, is there specific way to update? Because when I update older versions, there was not problems.

That was quick! Works perfect now! Thanks man!

One question, considering that I have a larger group and that my idea is to use all the companions, and that the HP is already decreasing big time, maybe in the future I would uninstall this version and return only NDS and RR. Is it possible without breaking my saves?

Since I have already written this much   is it possible to make this alt version only with a slightly smaller reduction in HP, like half of the current version? Sorry for bothering

      No problem!

I'll work on an uninstall version. It'll likely be a version that has the status go away permanently after a long rest. That way you can uninstall entirely afterwards.

I can put out a lighter version of it, maybe something like a 3% reduction instead of 5%. I could also make it so that each character gets a 15% boost to their HP, then subtract 5% for each companion. That would make it so a 4 player party is even with vanilla, 6 player is at 90% HP, 8 player is at 80%, 10 player is at 70%, etc. It would make the early game more manageable.

      Man you are hero!

Your proposition about lighter version of alt is great, I don't have anything to add, and uninstall version is very practical as well.

Thank you for your phenomenal and dedicated work on this essential mod, we appreciated!

I just uploaded the light version and uninstaller. You can swap out the regular alt and light alt versions without issue. Uninstaller works for both versions.

I really appreciate the kind words and feedback!

Would it all be possible to make a mod with no revive scrolls (or increase the cost and rarity of them), remove using revive scrolls during combat, greatly increase the cost of Withers revive, like instead of 200 make it 2000. but leave revive spells alone?

I think you have a good idea here, i definitely think there needs to be more consequences for death and revives should be more expensive/rare/harder to achieve.

Currently, this mod restricts revive scrolls to only be used out of combat. The "Withers only" version removes them entirely (as far as I can tell).

I believe revive scrolls are currently set as their category as far as loot tables are concerned. Increasing the cost/rarity could likely be done by assigning them to a scroll group and/or adjusting the rarity. I'll look into that.

I've done a little digging into increasing the cost of resurrection via Withers, but haven't figured it out, yet. There use to be a mod on here for making it free, so I would think increasing the cost is possible.
