Passives:
Warding Shell: The hermit proactively shrouds you in a Force Conduit that gains 2 charges at the start of your combat turn, and every time you deal or take Physical Damage. (Slashing, Bludgeoning or Piercing)
Curious Hermit: The hermit crab communicates with you what useful information it sees, giving you Perception Expertise and Advantage on its Skill Checks.
Skill:
Retreat!: Command the hermit crab to retreat into its shell. It will emit a cloud of magical darkness to hide you both from danger.

The critter can be found rummaging around the Ravaged Beach in act 1
Actual location: The item was added to the ravaged beach common loot pool. So theres a chance it will spawn in any of the bags, barrels or bodies on the beach. No guaranteed drop location. Please start ravaging 😅
