Love this! I have always hated Larian's approach at everything = miss with dodge animation.
Any chance we can get custom animation and sounds for hits absorbed by armor? Or maybe at least remove the ridiculous stumble animation from hits that were fully or partially absorbed by armor? Looks really goofy when a tank gets smacked around like a pinata despite being fine.
Any plans/ideas in making this mod universal between Vanilla and Modded armor sets? As I got a few armor sets I've been using that I'd love to see this mod's effects on, but I got no idea in how to go around applying these effects to them myself.
Agree i have a lot of modded armor and shield and this fantastic mechanics do not apply to those gear, this is so sad! There's a way to apply this mechanics to all gear? Ty for ur time, have a nice day
After playing with this for a while, I conclude, this is a fantastic change. I feel you're missing an opportunity not to further differentiate between damage types, however. Say, armor piercing damage penetrates, plate armor, but not chain mail, while blunt damage ignores chain mail entirely, etc.
Thank you for the great changes you have made to armor and shields. It gives me and my friends a completely different and fresh experience in the new round of the game.
Hey there, just want to report that this mod is incompatible with mods that add new Fighting Styles. Would it be possible to add the revisions via Compatibility Framework instead?
Yes! I've wanted a mod like this since the day I first started playing this game.
The combat system in BG3 is a joke. I couldn't believe that AC just affects the chance to dodge an attack. A guy fully dressed in plate armor takes full damage if he gets hit, as if he's not wearing armor at all. Is this a f*#@ing joke, devs? Larian always had a weird idea about armor. In DoS2, armor was presented as some sort of "magical" shield that enemies could break through in a couple of hits. Just maximum idiotic gameplay design. Even in BG1-2, outdated in every way, the combat system is many times better than BG3.
Thank you for your work, kind sir! I hope this mod will be maintained.
To clarify, my understanding is AC in the tabletop version of the rules is meant to be a total abstraction of your entire ability to 'evade' damage, IE having a shield and heavy armor means attacks more likely to glide off your armor or your shield and just not harm you, but having high dex with lighter armor means youre more agile and thus are more likely to 'dodge'. I suspect that larian, adapting these rules for a video game format, simply only animated the 'dodge' animation for clarity and ease of development, but it does hurt the 'feel' now that there's no one to narrate the difference. so i appreciate this mod equally for what it's doing to help bridge some gaps in making things more different to take advantage of the new format.
This is just how DnD 5e works, my dude. Nothing to do with Larian. They just copied it to video game form. Your complaints are misguided and misdirected. You should be complaining to Wizards of the Coast.
