The Rework:
The main file, the rework, changes how SwD (Speak with Dead) works.

In the base game, Speak with Dead is used on a corpse to speak with it immediately and gives you an invisible status which highlights "interesting" corpses and allows you to use Recast SwD for free. This status disappears on respec or long rest.

With the rework, Speak with Dead is now cast on yourself (self-only) and the status persists through respec and long rest (i.e. the status is now permanent, so you'll get permanent corpse highlighting after casting SwD once.) The behavior of Recast SwD is unchanged. So you'll only ever need to cast SwD once per character, and you'll always use Recast Speak with Dead after that.
The "regular" SwD will not be removed from your character, just in case something happens and you need to be able to give yourself Recast SwD again.
Both versions of the rework require BG3 Mod Fixer.

AGAIN, THIS CHANGES "SPEAK WITH DEAD" TO A SELF-CAST.
You will use "Recast Speak with Dead" to speak with corpses, which is given when casting Speak with Dead ON YOURSELF.
If you can't find it after casting SwD, check your spellbook (bound to "K" by default.)

Obviously, this will be incompatible with any mods that make new spells which inherit from the vanilla Speak with Dead.
So if you have another mod that provides a Speak with Dead spell and you plan on using it, DO NOT USE THE REWORK.

The Tweaks / optional files:
There are two optional files: SwD Tweaks and SwDC (Speak with Damaged Corpses.)

Speak with Dead Tweaks:
There are two tweaks - unlimited questions and making corpses speak to their killers.
The tweaks are now combined into a single file, and can be individually toggled, with instructions further down.
NOTE: Ignore Killer works retroactively, corpses you killed before installing it will forgive and forget.
SwD Tweaks requires BG3 Mod Fixer and BG3 Script Extender.
The tweaks are completely standalone - they will work with or without the main files or with any other mod that changes Speak with Dead.

Speak with Damaged Corpses:
SwDC allows you to speak with corpses that died to burning, poison, Disintegrate, etc.
Version 1.0.0 (called Speak with Burnt Corpses) allows you to speak to burnt corpses without highlighting them.
Version 1.1.1 onwards highlights interesting corpses with the standard blue-green glow in addition to allowing you to speak to them.
Requires BG3 Mod Fixer.

SwBC is incompatible with any mods that make Speak with Dead target something other than corpses, including the rework. Because of this, there is a separate version of the rework with SwBC functionality, called the Burnt Corpses Edition, and I've put SwBC under the miscellaneous category to keep it distinct.

Tweaking the Tweaks:
When you first launch the game with the Tweaks added, it will add a config file called

SpeakWithDeadTweaks.json

to your Script Extender folder. This folder is located in

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Script Extender

The easiest way to open this file, if you don't know how, is to open the Windows Run dialog (hold Windows key and press R,) then copy and paste the following into it and hit the OK button:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Script Extender\SpeakWithDeadTweaks.json

If it asks what application to open it with, use Notepad. You'll then see text that looks like this:

{
"ignore_killer" : true,
"unlimited_questions" : true
}

Change the part(s) you do not want to "false" and save the file. This config file gets reloaded every time you load a save, so you do not need to restart your game.
Make sure that the file content is EXACTLY the same as what's written above, except "false" being in place of "true" where applicable. Spelling has to the be same, the comma at the end of the second line has to be there, the braces in the first and last line have to be there, "true/false" have to be lowercase, etc. If it's not, then the script extender will throw an error when loading a save, and the tweaks will not function at all.

FAQ:

Q1: I don't have Speak with Dead.
   A1: First of all, not a question. Second of all, go get it.
   This mod will not provide you with Speak with Dead, it only changes how it works once you do have it.
   The amulet in the Chapel Ruins in the beginning of Act 1 is plenty.

Q2: I installed the Rework and I'm casting Speak with Dead but it won't let me use it on corpses, why?
   A2: See above, where this is already explained.

Q3: Why can I still only ask five questions / why do corpses refuse to speak to their killers? I installed the Rework.
   A3: The rework does not change either of these behaviors. See above.

Q4: Can this be added/removed mid-save / do I need to start a new save after installing {abc}?
   A4: Every part of this mod can be added or removed at any point with no issues.

Q5: Is {abc} compatible with {xyz}?
   A5: Re-read the description. If that doesn't answer this question, you'll have to find out yourself.

Q6: Does {abc} include {xyz}?
   A6: No, except where it explicitly states it does.
