Makes Aura of Hate also affect Undead/Fiends' Unarmed Attacks instead of only Melee Weapon Attacks. Because of this, now your animated zombies (among others) will benefit too.

Makes Aura of Hate also affect Undead/Fiends' Unarmed Attacks instead of only Melee Weapon Attacks. Because of this, now your animated zombies (among others) will benefit too.

This was designed with ABSOLUTE compatibility: it only modifies the singular field required to make this work and nothing else, so it will even work with other mods that touch Aura of Hate's other features (like my own Visual Auras for Paladins) as long as you load this one after.

In general, this mod should be loaded after any other mod that modifies Aura of Hate.

Why is it called ''fix''?


In BG3's implementation, many attacks of many non-player characters (like Undead and Fiends, but also some Beasts) are categorized as Unarmed Attacks because they don't ''use'' technically an external weapon in the attack. But this is actually incorrect, as the statblocks of many of those same monsters in DnD's rules specifically state when describing those attacks that they indeed are MELEE WEAPON ATTACKS. This is intentional and it directly allows Oathbreaker's Aura of Hate to affect such attacks, it's the whole point of an Oathbreaker being able to buff undead that most often than not use their claws or bites attacks which, again, are speficially described as Melee Weapon Attacks. Here is an example taken from DnD's zombie description:

Medium undead, neutral evil
Actions
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) bludgeoning damage.

Now, I can't go around recategorizing every single attack in the game from these entities as that's risky and convoluted. Instead, I just expanded the Aura of Hate buff to also affect Unarmed Attacks since, as I said, most Unarmed Attacks in the game that are inherent monster attacks that use their natural weapons/bodies should already be melee weapon attacks and it's BG3 that miscategorized them.
