Adds spells that allow you to set the maximum number of party members to any value between 1-16, no SE required! Also fixes a variety of bugs and issues related to higher party limits. This mod does NOT allow you to have more than 4 players in multiplayer.
No, seriously though: while I am very much open to feedback, please do not leave a question that is answered by this mod's description. If you leave a comment that makes it clear you did not read the description, I will delete said comment.

The "Seeming" spell can now disguise up to 16 party members at once instead of 4.
Fixed an issue where once the party crash landed on the beach at the start of the game, anytime the UNSET LIMIT was changed, the actual party limit would change too.
Version 3.0.0.0
A new spell called "Restore Party to Pre-Trimmed State" has been added, which will allow you to quickly add back everyone who was removed from the party when you used the "Trim Party Down to 4 Members" spell! It will only appear the morning after you use that spell, not if you brought your party down to 4 members manually. Leaving camp, adding back a party member manually, or loading the game will make this new spell disappear. If it disappears for one of those reasons, you will be unable to use it until the next morning after you use "Trim Party Down to 4 Members" again. Additionally, restoration will fail if any characters are dead, in dialog, in combat, or have some kind of negative status effect. If restoration fails for one of these reasons, the restoration spell will NOT disappear, and you will be able to try again after ensuring no party member has a condition preventing restoration.
When your party is given the "Debtor's Attire" by a certain spirit in a certain "house"—I am being cryptic because of spoilers, if you know, you know—the attire will be given to and equipped on every member of the party, instead of just the first four. No more needing to scrounge around for extra outfits if you have a big party!
Adjustable Party Limit's "Tutorials and Warnings" pop-ups will no longer appear every time you go to access the configuration spells. Instead, they will now only appear the first time you go to access them. Pop-ups will not appear when you subsequently toggle the passive.
Since the "Tutorials and Warnings" pop-ups only appear once automatically, you can now access them again manually by casting the new "Review Adjustable Party Limit Tutorials and Warnings" spell.
Many pop-ups have been modified or rewritten entirely, in order to both account for the new features this mod introduces and to clear up previously misleading pop-ups, such as by emphasizing that you cannot uninstall mods on console.
Some of the flags indicating you've seen this mod's one time messages have been reset, since many of them contain new important information. You should see these new versions of old messages if you update from a previous version of Adjustable Party Limit.
Fixed a core issue introduced in Patch 8, which caused the toggleable passive you see in your hotbar to become unsynced from your character's NetID after loading a save. This caused the bug where you could not activate the passive, and by extension, could not access the spells to edit this mod's settings.
Added a check to better ensure it's nighttime before the "Trim Party Down to 4 Members" spell is added to avatars. This should either reduce or eliminate instances of the spell appearing outside of camp.
Fixed an issue where the party limit would reset back to 4 upon crash landing on the beach after you changed the party limit on the Nautiloid.
KNOWN ISSUE: The "UNSET LIMIT" will automatically be applied to the party limit whenever it is changed, rather than having to cast the "Apply New Party Limit or View Current" spell to set it. The bug fix for when you crash land on the beach is the suspected cause. This issue will be fixed in the next update.
Version 2.2.5.0
Added new text to the togglable passive's and configuration status' descriptions to help make it clear that the togglable passive does not need to be enabled for the mod's settings to still work.
If the mod detects the player already had Adjustable Party Limit installed in their playthrough prior to this update, and the player has never installed Tactician Enhanced, it will now show a one-time-message informing the user that the Tactician Enhanced mod has been released on PC.
Version 2.2.4.0
Added a couple new pieces of tutorial text to increase clarity and mention the existence of the party trimmer spell that was added a few updates ago. There is now also mention of Tactician Enhanced within the tutorial texts due to the strong connection between this mod and Tactician Enhanced.
Version 2.2.3.0
Implemented scripting changes and new localization files provided by a user named hawchangJA. These changes will allow for far easier creation of translation mods for Adjustable Party Limit. Previously, translators needed to create entire new versions of the mod if they wanted to create a translation, since scripting changes were necessary to get a new language working. Now, all shown strings within the mod are translated strings, allowing for the creation of simple translation patches that have this mod as a dependency.
Changed a handful of English tutorial/event strings to make their meaning more clear to the player. (I intend to continue making changes like this in future updates as well.)
Version 2.2.2.0
The message boxes that pop up when players enable the togglable passive from this mod now warn about needing to drag out sections of the hotbar (via the red vertical lines) to see everything if players are using the Batter Hotbar 2 mod.
Better Hotbar 2 removed from the conflicts list, can be used freely with this mod again.
Version 2.2.1.0
Marked Caites' Better Hotbar 2 mod as conflicting with this mod for now due to floods of false bug reports. To be clear, there is no issue with BHB2. People just do NOT read mod descriptions...
v2.2.0.0 is also listed in the main files for anyone who still wants to use this mod with BHB2. If the incompatibility is maintained as this mod is updated in the future, I'll be sure to upload two different versions of the mod.
Version 2.2.0.0
Added a new spell that will appear at nighttime when the party has more than four active members. As long as no one in the party has conditions that would make removing them unsafe (such as being in dialog, being in combat, etc.) then that spell can be used to instantly trim the party down to four members.
All spells added by this mod now show up in the "temporary" section of the hotbar so they are easier to find for PC players.
Improved the code for determining which characters in the party are "real" companions (as in: they are not a summon or temporary companion).
Updated the uninstaller spell code to account for new databases added by this update.
Version 2.1.1.1
Fixed a bug that would trigger when the game's story recompiled (such as after adding new mods) while the player had the togglable passive from this mod active. For some strange reason I'm still not entirely sure of, this would completely bork the passive added by this mod, causing it to not work properly when toggled on and off. That passive is now removed, then re-added to all relevant characters every time the game is loaded. That seems to fix the issue.
Version 2.1.0.1
Initial upload onto Nexus.

⚠️ NOTICES BEFORE YOU CONTINUE ⚠️
1.) This mod is only supported on games updated to Patch 7 or Patch 8, depending on which version you download. Attempts to use this mod on patches other than the patch a version was intended for can lead to unforeseeable issues. Please always check what the supported patch is for a version of the mod before you submit any bug reports. You can see what the supported patch is in the file description before you download.
2.) This mod is a Nexus mirror of a mod available within the official Baldur's Gate 3 mod manager. You can install this mod in-game by either searching "Adjustable Party Limit" within the in-game mod manager, or you can click this link to see the official mirror from within your browser.
What is the party limit?
The "party limit" refers to the maximum amount of characters you are allowed to have in your party. This mod let's you change that number.
Why use this mod, and not other party limit extenders?
It's true that there are already quite a few other party limit extender mods such as Party Limit Begone, Aether's No Party Limits, and Configurable Party Limit. While those mods are each great in their own right, and you may still want to think about using them depending on what you want, Adjustable Party Limit has some unique features that no other party limit extender mod has ever had up to the time of writing this. Because of these unique features, I think you may want to consider this mod over other party limit extenders:
a.) This mod does not require Script Extender, nor does it require you to make changes to your data folder. It can be installed like a normal mod with no extra steps required.
b.) This mod is the first party limit extender mod with built-in ways to prevent you from encountering some of the most infamous party limit extender bugs, such as the Act 1 lake boat bug and the long resting bug. More details on these fixes are in a later section.
c.) This mod does not just unlock the party limit, but allows you to set the limit to a specific number of your choosing. (This feature is not exclusive to this mod, and is also present in Configurable Party Limit, but that mod lacks the two other features above.)
Please note that this mod does not change the number of human players you can have in multiplayer sessions. If you would like that functionality, please continue to rely on Party Limit Begone.
What are these "infamous" bugs you're referring to?
There are two well known base game bugs that trigger when you attempt to take certain actions with more than four party members, both of which bork your game when they happen. While it is not possible to completely "fix" these bugs with Osiris scripting, this mod does completely prevent you from triggering the following bugs, even if you were actively trying to:
The Act 1 Lake Boat Bug
If you attempt to take the lake boat to the d*****r camp while you have more than four party members, every party member over the fourth will permanently turn invisible and also exhibit some other strange behaviors. Adjustable Party Limit includes comprehensive checks to make absolute sure you cannot interact with the boat if you are in a state that would potentially trigger the bug.
The Long Resting Bug
In some instances, long resting while there are more than four active party members can cause the party to not exit the "sleeping" state when a long rest ends. While there are some actions players can take to try and break out of this state, they do not work consistently. Adjustable Party Limit will prevent you from long resting if you have more than four party members. There are also spells that allow you to instantly cut down the party to four members, and then restore it in the morning!
The Debtor's Attire Issue
This one isn't technically a bug, but it is a big inconvenience during playthroughs with bigger party sizes. When your party is given the "Debtor's Attire" by a certain spirit in a certain "house"—I am being cryptic because of spoilers, if you know, you know—Adjustable Party Limit will give the attire to every member of the party and equip it on them, instead of just the first four. No more needing to scrounge around for extra outfits!
Compatibility?
Adjustable Party Limit is completely compatible with essentially all mods, except other party limit extender mods. Other "party limit extender" mods are mods such as:
This is because the mod is purely additive. It does not override absolutely anything from the base game or other mods.
Also keep in mind, as stated at the top of the page, this mod is only compatible with specific patches. Please read the file description before you download.
How to use the mod.
⚠️ NOTE: There are in-game pop-ups that also guide you through using the mod. Reading this section is completely optional. ⚠️
1.) First, you need to enable the togglable passive that will be added to your character the first time you load a save with this mod enabled. If you're playing with a keyboard and mouse, you can find this in the "passive" section of your hotbar (the same place you enable/disable non-lethal attacks). If you're on controller, you'll need to find the passive in one of your action wheels. If you want to know what the passive looks like, check this mod page's "images" section.
2.) Once enabled, you will get four new spells in your hotbar. You will want to start by using one of the spells with an up or down arrow to change a value called the "UNSET LIMIT." Changing the UNSET LIMIT will not change your ACTUAL max party size, but it will prepare you to change it in the next step.
3.) After you set the UNSET LIMIT to the maximum party size you want, cast the spell with the tools icon to change the ACTUAL party size to the UNSET LIMIT. Be aware that when you do this, for technical reasons the game needs to stun you for six seconds for the new party limit to apply. Once you come out of stun, you're finished!
Is this mod safe to uninstall?
Yes, this mod is completely safe to uninstall! However, there is an ideal way to go about it. When you enable the mod's togglable passive that was mentioned in the last section, one of the spells added to your character will be an uninstaller spell. This spell will allow you to perform a "clean" uninstall, even though you technically don't need it. For more details on how to use the uninstaller, check the spell's description in-game.
Future plans?
There are two things I definitively plan on doing next.
Finishing work on a complimentary difficulty mod called "Tactician Enhanced"
A problem shared by all party limit extender mods is the fact that pushing your party past four members seriously ruins the game's balance. There are mods to remedy this, but there are no non-SE mods that allow the game's difficulty to automatically increase as your party gets larger. I aim to fix that! Releasing sometime this month, Tactician Enhanced is a new difficulty adjustment mod that will allow you to give enemies extra hitpoints, actions, and bonus actions. You will also be able to make it so the amounts of each resource enemies get increases automatically as your party gets larger! Every setting in the mod will be fully customizable, so you can play with whatever you feel is balanced. The mod will most likely release in the first half of October 2024, so check this page every few days to see if it has been released yet.
EDIT: Tactician Enhanced is now out in BETA. You can currently grab it from the in-game mod manager, or you can download it manually from Mod.io! A Nexus page will be made for Tactician Enhanced eventually.
EDIT 2: Tactician Enhanced is no longer in BETA, and can now be downloaded from Nexus Mods here!
Updating Adjustable Party Limit to add a spell that allows you to automatically trim the party down to four members
I want to add this feature to make it less annoying to reduce your party size down to four before you long rest. You can expect this feature to be added soon after I release Tactician Enhanced!
EDIT: This feature was added early for the sake of fixing a bug! v2.2.0.0 and beyond will now let you do this!
EDIT 2: As of v3.0.0.0 there is now also a spell that allows you to instantly add back everyone who was removed once it's morning again!

"I would like to report a bug."
I encourage you to report any bugs you experience with this mod! However, there are some steps I highly encourage you to take before you start reporting bugs.
• See if you can reproduce the bug. • Ensure that the bug you're experiencing is actually caused by this mod. Try testing in a game with no other mods. • If you're game is failing to launch, try deleting %localappdata%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\modsettings.lsx. This mod will NEVER cause your game to fail to launch, but other mods potentially could, and you need to clean out both your mods folder and delete that file to get things working again. • Get screenshots or a video of the bug if possible, those are always super helpful!
Also, please do not report issues with mods failing to download or not being able to load into multiplayer. Neither my mod, nor any particular mod, are the reason these are happening. These are bugs with the game.
"I want to port this mod to a different language."
That's awesome! If you are willing to port the mod, I would love for there to be different versions of this mod with support for other languages. However, if you want to port this mod, you MUST get my permission first. So long as you ask I will very likely say yes, but any re-uploads of this mod that I have not approved (whether on Nexus or another platform) will be taken down.
