Ok, so an important note to anyone, the file ACValhalla.ini is already restricted under the option read only, so if you want to modify it to your resolution and refresh rate as elajitz said you have to first uncheck it and then after you have finish to modify it to your settings check read only again.
For those who don't know where to look to find the read only option is very simple,
right click over the file and select properties
on the first table, called "General", at the bottom there is an option called "Read Only", uncheck the box
click apply at the bottom and close the properties
Et voilà the file is set to be freely modified, but as elajitz said, when you have done reopen the properties table and check "Read Only" again so the game will not try to modify the file on its own.
Also a small note to anyone before you ask for this, you have to extract the file inside the "Reshade files" folder in your game file folder, not the entire folder, only the files inside it.
This small note is only because I've been using a lot of mods for a lot of years for so many games, and almost in every mod there were files under another folder to be dropped inside the game folder, and the most common misunderstanding was about what to drop inside the game folder, and a lot of people were doing it wrong resulting in the mod, or like in this case the visual effects, not to be showed and consequentially in people blaming authors for simple misunderstanding on their own. So it is only an explanation on how to correctly install it.
Anyway I tried your mod and I must say it looks wonderful, Valhalla is already a masterpiece of graphics in my opinion so to create something that make it looks even better is really a challenge, great work.
Thx! i am not sure i dont think so! The lod issue in this game it's caused how the game is programmed to handle textures ect!.. There is a mod / tweak that edits the streams of the texture in the game engine and fix render-related issues. I have not tested it myself! so i can't really give you any real answers!
Where did you modify the LOD of the game? Have the LODs of grass, debris and textures been enhanced? Which file should I download? If I don't want to install RESHADE, how can I only install the file that modifies LOD? When I ride on the lawn, the grass is loaded with my movement, which is very disgusting.
I tried the lod tweak (and ini edits) in AC:Mirage and they all worked, look fucking amazing compared to vanilla game. Just asked the modder if I can release the mod on AC:Mirage nexus because others need to see what Basim looks like with actually decent textures.
I'd expect them to work in any modern AC as they are all the same engine, they all look equally bad in terms of graphics quality etc.
Hi, so just wanted to say thank you for this mod and the ini edits/lod fix especially, like a new game almost bringing it up to modern standard (remember when AC would set graphical standard of the day?!).
Also wanted to say the same ini edits and even the LOD hex edit fix, all work in AC Mirage too. The game looks insanely better with these fixes, the player character and others especially went from murky awful blocky textures of original (seriously Ubisoft wtf is wrong with you) to like holy s#*! this looks like a modern game.
Could I have the mod authors permission to release these ini edits and fixes for AC:Mirage too? Or if you have the game @elajitz you could do the same changes on that and release the mod on the AC mirage nexus page. Up to you but I'm happy to type it all out and give you credit with your permission.

Question: When loading the game with the custom, tweaked .ini, the preset for the graphical settings (inside the game) are displayed as "High" rather than "Very High" or "Ultra High". The tweaked values of the .ini remains however. but the displayed presets are sort of confusing. Is this working as intended?
Hey!Might be a stupid question.I'm trying to use the hex editor to change the LOD.What file am I supposed to load in, exactly? My original guess was the Valhalla.exe file, but I couldn't find the line that I had to change. The text file doesn't make it clear:(.
Yes it's the ACValhalla.exe file you have to edit and search for the sting of code and replace it whit the code from my instruction. What version of the game are you using? do you own the game or do you play it with Uplay+ / steam ? the exe can be different from the non Uplay / Uplay+ version compared to Steam version or vice versa!
I own the game on Uplay, and I'm using whatever the latest version is.I tried to search for the code, but I couldn't find it with HxD.That's where I'm stuck.
Also have this exact problem. Cannot find the string that corresponds to what you say to look for. Bought mine from Ubisoft directly. This applies to both LOD and the TAA thing. Cannot find.
EDIT! Discovered the problem. I simply wasn't in the correct tab. There are a few tabs and completely missed the simple need to be searching in the HEX tab. The software does not default to that. Anyway, found and replaced those lines and now we'll see how it goes. Apparently also needed to do it in the plus.exe file according to someone else in the event of extra dlc purchased? Had to do that for the ultrawide cutscene fixes in any case.
edit x2: works just fine it seems. The preset looks amazing, but I haven't yet seen it at night as I just completed the intro and arrived at the Fornburg.
Bro, either it's a placebo or your max ini tweaks have made this game feel current gen. I'm not seeing smeared textures, pop in and the draw distance seems to be a lot greater. Game saver!
I'm a Reshade fiend using various presets for many games over the years. This one suits Valhalla very well, and works quite nicely with the LOD correction. I'm currently only in the north starting a new game, but it definitely feels and looks cold. At startup I sometimes get an eye adaption/fish eye effect/narrow lens effect (or whatever it is), but turning off the effects with the Reshade hotkey and turning them back on always fixes it.
After a time using it I love this preset. I started to notice details in rocks such as lichens and moss that are completely 'brown-washed' in vanilla.
The only thing that is kind of a mess is bright sunny days in England in grasslands. It gets a whole lot flickery or pixelated or whatever. Thankfully a cloud going over or other weathers solve that instantly.
No thank to you to create such awesome preset, really I can't play valhalla without it anymore ahahahah.
If I have to find a little imperfection, totally negligible, there is only one flaw that I have saw so far, in shadowed zone it is really too dark to the point that you merely see in front of yourself, but that's the only thing that I have found which may need a little adjustment.
Sorry for late response but I was a bit busy last month with work ;D
Edit: Nevermind, I see you have updated it with corrected darker area with your last update I will try it soon :D

but it worth a try!
I don't know if it will work on the most recent version of the game as it was a time back the Special K was updated!

how do I do that?

Thx :) I still working on the Reshade to balance some situation in dark areas! :)
