Hi everyone! The mod has been updated with a new tool that will update the game's settings for you. Anyone experiencing audio bugs please limit the game's fps to 105 or lower. A high frame rate causes issues with the audio and has nothing to do with this mod.
The optional TAA mod showcased in the video is separate and not a part of this mod. TAA mod link
could not find ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML only the other engine_settings is in chrome edge which does not show up so could not find game even when in game file
i actualy just got it to work you have to make sure you find the actual application folder for the game might help to make it a completely different folder
Super late reply, but last I checked it does not. I believe it's because the VR branch of the game uses custom settings that don't seem to be editable directly. The VR mode actually has really nasty LOD issues as well in some of the larger spaces, so if this can be fixed that would be absolutely amazing.
Lens flares don't get removed as you can see in the screenshot below, its clearly a lens flare being emitted by the light in the floor, funny the other lens flare mod has the same issue, completely ignoring quite a few lens flares that are persistent consistently throughout the entire game, either you cannot fully disable lens flares or mod makers have errors in their mods. My money is on the game not letting you fully disable them but hey, I didn't make the mod so I don't know.
As for the little .exe app, for whatever reason the ability to disable intro movies disappears once the game has been located, funnily enough in my attempt to fix it by verifying files and redownloading the tool again I found both settings to disappear, managed to bring back the lens flare setting somehow though.
I don't know if being on Epic Games has anything to do with such issue, but I've found several mods to simply not function at all (Like the anti-aliasing mod).
If you disable lens flares via the mod, two files containing lens flare info just get renamed so the game can't access them, effectively removing those lens flares from the game. I don't know of any other way to do this and other mod makers most likely do it the same way. So I guess you'll have to live with some lens flares.
As for the UI issues in the tool: Those shouldn't happen, ever. The checkboxes should always be visible. It might be related to your display and zoom settings in Windows, but I'm unsure at this point.
I didn't suggest that anything was wrong with your settings, but that you might have modified them in some way that leads to this UI issue. I can not currently replicate this issue on my end and it's not so simple to fix with nothing to go on. It might not be related to those settings at all, it was just guesswork.
If you haven't noticed, the 2023 xml has a formatting issue (Can't say anything about anything pre-2023). the "ShadowMapResolution" Setting has a leftover "/" at the end, leading to an incorrect formatting.
This is how your file's option is: <Setting name="ShadowMapResolution"> <!-- resolution in pixels. --> <Quality name="512" int="512" precedence="1"/> <Quality name="1024"int="1024" precedence="2"/> <Quality name="1536"int="1536" precedence="3"/> <Quality name="2048"int="2048" precedence="4"/> <Quality name="4096" int="4096" precedence="5"/> <DefaultRequirements> <WindowsExperienceIndex type="GPU" value="7.6"/> </DefaultRequirements> </Quality> </Setting>
This is how it's supposed to be: <Setting name="ShadowMapResolution"> <!-- resolution in pixels. --> <Quality name="512" int="512" precedence="1"/> <Quality name="1024"int="1024" precedence="2"/> <Quality name="1536"int="1536" precedence="3"/> <Quality name="2048"int="2048" precedence="4"/> <Quality name="4096" int="4096" precedence="5"> <DefaultRequirements> <WindowsExperienceIndex type="GPU" value="7.6"/> </DefaultRequirements> </Quality> </Setting>
There is one XML ready to download and it's from the 2021 version of the mod. I double checked and you are right, that version is plagued by some issues, like the one you mentioned. However, the new patcher (which is the current version of this mod) does not cause this issue. We've also added more settings with it, so the XML structure will look somewhat different than what you posted.
awesome mod great work, the tool works great but for me the option to remove intro movies/lens flares disappears after locating the games main file. any help is appreciated.

Nothing is wrong with my display or zoom settings, your tool is bugged my friend.
This is what it looks like before I locate the game.
with bad graphics, specially TAA is sort of bad, ALIEN Dark Descent.
This is how your file's option is:
<Setting name="ShadowMapResolution">
<!-- resolution in pixels. -->
<Quality name="512" int="512" precedence="1"/>
<Quality name="1024"int="1024" precedence="2"/>
<Quality name="1536"int="1536" precedence="3"/>
<Quality name="2048"int="2048" precedence="4"/>
<Quality name="4096" int="4096" precedence="5"/>
<DefaultRequirements>
<WindowsExperienceIndex type="GPU" value="7.6"/>
</DefaultRequirements>
</Quality>
</Setting>
This is how it's supposed to be:
<Setting name="ShadowMapResolution">
<!-- resolution in pixels. -->
<Quality name="512" int="512" precedence="1"/>
<Quality name="1024"int="1024" precedence="2"/>
<Quality name="1536"int="1536" precedence="3"/>
<Quality name="2048"int="2048" precedence="4"/>
<Quality name="4096" int="4096" precedence="5">
<DefaultRequirements>
<WindowsExperienceIndex type="GPU" value="7.6"/>
</DefaultRequirements>
</Quality>
</Setting>
specifically this line:
<Quality name="4096" int="4096" precedence="5"> # Correct
<Quality name="4096" int="4096" precedence="5"/> # Incorrect
This is due to the below "DefaultRequirements".
