Sounds like you implemented some good ideas and I like the concept. Of course there are already a ton of smithing mods out there that cover many of the same aspects; any idea your mod may compliment some of them? From the description I take it that your mod does not mess with the perk tree yes?
Some suggestions of what features would be great to have in future; all types of smithing related crafting give XP toward the smithing perk tree, like mining, tanning rack etc. Most if not all "higher" versions of an armor do not look any different from the base version in the vanilla factions, would be nice if some visible differences could be applied. I will keep an eye on this mod and consider it for a fresh play through, but I don't think I can replace my current crafting mod, best of luck with it!
Yeah I'd like to implement a XP gain on smelting and tanning, but I have two issues with that: 1. I don't know how to do it; 2. There are a lot of items easy to smith (gems, for example) withc can net you a big deal of smithing experience. You can even forge a few black gems, smelt them and then forge them again since there is on material lost in the process. So I didn't think necessary to add the smelter and tanning XP. I may change my mind after a playthrough, though, who knkows? ^^
For the visuals, there's little chance of this happening: I have no modelling or texturing skills, and I do like the armors in my game (mostly retextured with Cabla120's amazing "Book of Silence", a must have, for me.
You can download it manually. Then move the file you downloaded to C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Skyrim\Mods, (Keep it zipped.). Start Nexus mod manager up, it the file will be found under the unassigned category. Move the file to the crafting category and install.
