An overly useful mod and, it works for SSE. Better, it even works with SSE Mods and custom children.

Here's how to make it work with Hearthfire Multiple Adoption and Improved Adoptions .
May contain useless steps but It worked for me and seems clean

After you ported the mod (adefridiv mentionned how to, if you know how to copy paste you can do it. If you still struggle for...whatever reason PM me and I'll send you), and made a backup

    1. Unadopt using the new obtained unadoption spell
    2. Save 1
    3. Clean  the Save 1 using Fallrim Tools
    4. Disable "Skyrim Unadoption Mod"
    5. Disable "Hearthfire Multiple Adoption"
    6. Disable "Improved Adoption" (may be useless)
    7. Load you cleaned Save 1
    8. Save 2
    9. Clean the Save 2 using Fallrim Tools (if you don't do steps 5 to 9 you'll be adopt up to 6 children but only the 2 first adopted will behave like adopted. The others will just get back to their activities. They'll thank your for giving them a new family, but won't go to your home, call you popa/moma, accept gifts or anything)
    10. Enable "Hearthfire Multiple Adoption" (if you want to adopt more than 2 children)
    11. Enable "Improved Adoption" (if you want your children to stop behaving like antisocial shrimps)
    12. Load the cleaned Save 2
    13. Adopt Sofie (absolutely necessary to save your soul and avoid hell)
    14. Adopt the kids you want

I adopted 3 children (using the Hearthfire Multiple Adoption) and had them in my custom home. Then I realized it'd be better if my family lived in Breezehome for which I use an interior mod that doesn't allow more than 2 children. So I installed your mod thinking when I use the spell it will unadopt only the child I'm currently shouting at. I successfully unadopted Lucia and didn't notice it also unadopted the other 2 kids, so although I did save before the action, I kept on playing the playthrough 'cause I had to do some stuff before moving my family and now the save is lost somewhere. I disabled the mod afterwards.

So now my problem is this: I just now noticed that this mod unadopted ALL of my children (which quite honestly could be mentioned somewhere) and I'm unable to re-adopt them. The command you mention on the page isn't working and says it doesn't mean anything. I read somewhere on the internet that Relationship Dialogue Overhaul (which I use for a long time already) can help by making the children your followers, but although it gives you the possibility to speak with the children, it doesn't bring up the "adopt me" dialogue anyway.

So is there any other way to re-adopt those kids or do I have to go with new ones?

EDIT: Solution in my comment below. Thank you for the mod!

I've got a solution! This is the source of it.

Approach the child, open the console and click on them to see their ID. Then, WITHOUT closing the console after EACH command, type the following in this order:

      • setrelationshiprank [Child ID] 4

      • setrelationshiprank player 4

      • addfac xx004290 1

Close the console and click on them. Now you have the original adoption dialogue and can adopt them again.

The mod creator forgot a null in the description page in "addfac xx004290 1", so that's probably why some people can't get it to work.

Here is a guide to make it work in Special Edition:

    1. Manually download this mod, and drop the .esp and .bsa files to your desktop.

    2. Download Bethesda Archive Extractor (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/974/?tab=files)

    3. Open the extractor and select "File" -> "Open file" from the top.

    4. Select the skyrim unadopt.bsa file

    5. Press "Extract" on the bottom

    6. Either extract it directily to your skyrim data folder (On steam it's Program files (x86) -> Steam -> SteamApps -> Common -> Skyrim Special Edition -> Data), or extract it somewere else, and it will give you a "Scripts" folder, then just drop the folder to the skyrim's Data folder

    7. Drop the Skyrim unadopt.esp to your Data folder, then activate the .esp on a mod manager or in Skyrim's main menu.

    8. Load up your save, and if you extracted the .bsa to the Data folder, and have the .esp activated you should now see a message that the power was added.

    9. Send your bastard children back to where they came from!

Confirmed that this works, stable over the long haul. Played for many, many hours after following these instructions with no glitches. Endorsed the mod and kudos to you, PasiPaska.

You have to follow his procedure for SE. Scripts folder extracted from the BSA and that plus the ESP both manually inserted into the Data Folder of the game. It'll work if you do it that way.

I never heard of this mod until now. It worked pretty good at resetting the two adopted kids I had. It worked a little too well though on kids that were turned into orphans during the playthrough. They no longer know that they are orphans, though they are still living at the orphanage in Riften.

No biggy, since this mod was written before the Unofficial Skyrim Patches that I'm using. I just did the "addfac xx004290 1" on them to make them adoptable again.

dang, i wish that would happen to me. i have that bug where a couple kids act like their parents were killed and move to the orphanage...but their parents are fine, alive and never died far as i know.
tried this mod hoping i'd get your results but nope, they still act as parents dead.
this mod worked exactly as it's supposed to tho! thanks

Maybe removing them from various adopted factions will fix them. I know Prof. Doon makes Braith adoptable even though her parents are alive. So un-doing that bug on other children might fix them.

thanks. yeah older versions of Sofia did that too, which i think is my issue. i've updated but started this play w/ older sofia vers. must be same type bug as Doon too, as i read in that thread that minette is affected and i have that. grolnach too.

Hero NPCs, like Doon and Vilja, are scripted to say things about vanilla NPCs that are nearby. But for whatever reason, they will reveal bugs about those NPCs if using intrusive code.

If any of yall are having problems with the hearthfire adoption mod or the maisha mod, I was able to figure out a way to make everything work I think

First you go to a safe space away from your main house and adopted children, such as whiterun or solitude for example, and save. Then open your mod manager and disable hearthfire/maisha/whatever else, and enable unadoption. Go back into your game, use your unadopt power, and save again. Then disable unadoption and re-enable your other mods. Go back into your game and save and everything should be working alright. If you wanna adopt one of the npcs back again you may need to use console commands in order to make that option available, like I had to. It works well enough though
