1. To set a formation, talk with the squad leader:
"Let's talk about order in party" -> "Combat Formation"
2. Select the type of formation
If you want to set a custom formation, you should move the squad member before talking with the leader. To move a follower, hold "Use" key while standing at some distance from him. You will enter the "Favors" mode. Select the position for this follower.
3. To clear the formation select "Clear Formation". If the formation get broken after combat, select "Restore the formation" to repair it. You can also use the Regroup sign for this task.... -

How to force your followers to ride ANY horse (or ANY animal that Player can ride)
1) Allow your follower to ride animals via dialogue ("About mounts")
2) Point with Tactical Sign to the animal to give the Ride sign
Follower will mount the selected horse. If it doesn't belong to Player, your follower will steal it.... -
Individual Salary
By default, you pay individual daily salary to each follower. The salary value is equal to the Min salary value that is required to hire this particular follower.
The minimum salary is calculated based on the following factors:
1) The essential skills of the follower
2) How many quests are completed by the player
3) Player speech perks
4) Is follower a mercenary?
5) Is follower immortal? ("essential" flag)
6) Is follower a housecarl? (you can have your housecarls for free)
Unequal payments may lead to envy and unfriendly atmosphere in the end. If the difference is too high, your companions may even start to attack each other in case of friendly fire.

Some general schemes
Use the "Tactical Sign" power (squad leaders MUST see player in order to recognize his signs)
1) Cast it near the squad to select it
1) Cast it near your current enemy to give the "Attack" order to every squad
2.A) Use Tactical Sign to give the Long Term Order to the selected squad. Followers will move to the location you pointing at.
2.A) If you are crounching, while giving an order, followers will try to move to their target undetected.
2.B) Cast it near your enemy to give the "Attack" order to the selected squad
