    Hey M,

I would really love to make this mod work for a playthrough. Right now, when I have it installed, I can't see it at all in third person. In first person, it does appear until I go into first person view, switch out, and then switch back in. Any suggestions?

I am running an ENB, so not sure if that affects it. The screenshots look great though, and hoping to be able to get visuals like the first and third image posted. Great work.

There is stupid limits with the game engine and this mod works better on some setups than others. There is a mod listed in my description that bypasses these limits and works great. I suggest trying his mod out if you have skse. This mod I made worked great on my deceased laptop, works for crap on my new computer. No idea why. I use aetherium sabers for light in dungeons now. Thanks for the interest.

I'm surprised this doesn't have a lot more endorsements. I loved this mod. Probably won't play without it now.

Yup, it just ignores it when it's an NPC, but not the player. I can't fix it like I wanted, thank you for the response and the neat mod!

Do you know why it won't work if you switch the spell lights to omnidirectional (no shadow)? It works for torches but not for spells.

The only reason I ask is that on this page it says that it can cause problems if you have too many shadow casting lights in one place, and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with why the spells sometimes won't light up indoors. http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Lights_and_FX

I have found that anything I try to make work like a torch can only be used like a torch. Therefore I cannot make magic into torchlight without taking away the ability to cast magic with it. I toyed with the idea of a "summoned torch" using the fire storm spell's in hand mesh. I didn't really get great results from that. Nothing I used in my game after testing for results, anyway. I appreciate the heads up to the wiki and any other advice from modders. I wrote this mod when I was super-noob on a crappy laptop with just the CK. I've learned a lot since then. When I get done with the stuff I am working on I might revisit this.

Seeing how you did this I attached a bunch of spell light effects to my custom atronach replacer's innate abilities, she now lights up like a torch (and glows only then) in combat. It worked for her, and oddly enough I can see her on the world map (???) but with so many extra shadows, light effects and what not it can go down hill fast.

I was having an issue making her light up like a torch outside of combat, but if I set my race to her, the innate abilities light up. Would you have any ideas as to why? I was thinking it was related to the torch thing itself.

Skyrim's engine is wonky and has a weird assortment of hard coded bits that make simple ideas very hard to work around. I was halted by such hard coded idiocy. All I can do is wish you luck and steer you to the mod in my description.

I don't know. I don't use any ENB, or climates of Tamriel. I would have to guess it is one of those mods. I do use HD fire effects. Do your other destruction spells cast light? I have had a previous report of janky function with climates of Tamriel. I could not replicate any problems on my system, which is a crappy laptop.

If you can't get rid of finger-shadows, why not displace the light source a little bit upwards? You will still get shadows, but they will be cast more downward. As long as the light source isn't displaced too much (and it shouldn't take much, since the source is so close to the object casting shadows) it shouldn't look broken.

My actual purpose for posting here though, was that my spells do not cast light . . . only NPC spells.

That sounds like a good idea for a single spell that casts light. I wouldn't want to move all the meshes for all the spells.

I run the file labeled as my settings with the .ini edits on the description page of the mod linked in my description. It works for me. I have it towards the bottom of my load order.

I really like the idea of this mod, but is it possible to get a light effect from my spells without GIANT shadows cast by my fingers? Kinda ruins the point...

No. I have been trying to figure out what is so special about the torch that it gets to cast light with no shadows. I have tried completely replicating everything about torch light into the magic effect light. It just doesn't work. The only way to get them to cast light is by making them cast a shadow. Multiple people have tried their darndest. No solution to be found. Perhaps there is some secret involving the mesh.

      [edit]
I use animation replacers for my game. Vanilla won't cast shadows in your path much.

Hmm...doesn't everyone use animation replacers? LOL I wonder what it is about vanilla that makes it special... If only there was some way to just ask the Bethesda developers. Thanks anyway.

I just mean vanilla hand position shines the light in front of you at your feet. Your fingers aren't in the way, much. Love the feedback!

I was playing some more last night, and I noticed that I only get shadows from my fingers while I'm inside somewhere. Anytime I'm out in the open world at night, I get zero shadows from my hands and only a small shadow from my body - just like a torch. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the Climates of Tamriel mod I just installed or not, but either way, that's pretty interesting. Maybe there's a secret hidden there.

I just spent days trying to nail down the cause of that scenario you described. I messed my carefully balanced game up trying to get climates of tamriel to have the same effect in my game. I couldn't replicate it. I dug through that mod quite a bit, too. I can't find the reason for your torch behavior. Even if I could, it's inside that the mod gets all crazy and unpredictable. Thanks for the info. I will mess with this mod some more after I finish a couple requests for people and my overhaul of Predator Shouts and Sounds .
