# #
##############################################

Version 1.0

Author: TheWinterhawk

Release Date: 08\20\2012

What you can use this mod for:

- use mod horse Jingles with saddle variants
- replace vanilla saddle
- replace textures for Jingles and saddles
- integrate into Convenient Horses mod

All steps of placing the files correctly (also for retexture) can be done easily even by not so experienced users. I'll walk you through safely. All the other users know anyways what to do with the files for their purpose. They can skip the read me completely. ;)

# Description #

###############

In first place this mod directly offers you without any more effort the opportunity to spawn three different looking standalone horses via console with each of them wearing a variant of my hunter saddle. All horses are named Jingles, because it's meant to be only one horse, just with different saddles.

YOU WILL NOT FIND ANY NEW HORSES IN THE WORLD, YOU WILL DEFINITELY HAVE TO SPAWN THEM VIA CONSOLE!!!

Why have I chosen this method? Why not just placing the horses somewhere? Simple answer: Depending on the number of mods you use, it may get crowded in some areas already, because everybody places their horses, buildings, weapons and stuff somewhere. I wanted as little impact as possible on your performance, considering your other mods in addition. I wanted the horses with the hunter saddles to be potentially there, so when you need them you spawn them, when you don't need them, they don't bother you. Don't worry, spawning them will be a piece of cake as well as changing textures! I'm walking you through it all. Just follow in the "How to use this mod" section and enjoy!

There are three different versions of the hunter saddle:

Horse 1 (this is not the console name, but refers to my name convention for .nif and .dds files in the structure folders as well as CK objects in this mod!) has the pure hunter saddle. It comes with a default saddle texture (which you can exchange with any texture for the default saddle of your like. I will tell you soon, how to do this.) On the saddle there will be a waterskin. On the bridle there are some feathers and a mini deer skull. Consider it carved from bone and wood. ;)

Horse 2 comes with a medium version of the hunter saddle. Additionally to the pure saddle it has two retextured saddle bags on the sides. I recolored the bags to be more matching with the rest of the saddle. It also has a wolf pelt and a fox pelt. You are a hunter! ;)

Horse 3 is the full saddle version, providing you additionally to the previous stuff with a cooking pot and a bear trap. If you want to go on a longer hunting trip, this saddle may come in handy. =)

Please, see the screen shots for comparison!

# CREDITS #

###########

Before we go on I want to give BIG THANKS to four people. Without them, the mod would not have been possible in this way.

First, I want to thank Nightasy for his fantastic tutorial series on how to make armors. I watched his videos for the basics. You can find his tutorial series here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19249
Nightasy also has a youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/NightasyTutorials?feature=mhee

Second, gratefully I want to credit Laup26 for his wonderful support and patience. He offered me help and answered all my questions. Thank you kindly, Laup! Without him I would still sit in front of my computer trying to figure out how everything works. And probably my machine would have died of massive hammer attacks by this time, even if no killmove was guaranteed. ;)
Don't miss Laup's exciting saddles! Visit: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19936

I want to give credits to TreasureChest for the awesome waterskin he has made for his adorable furbag editions. I use the waterskin in the saddles, because a real hunter needs a waterskin when going on a hunting trip. ;) Thank you so much, TreasureChest, for allowing me to use your precious asset!
You can find his furbags here:
Furbag http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9090
Sabre Gear Backpack http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13687

And last, but not least, thanks and credits go out to zira for making some wonderful horse skins. I've used her Quarter Horse, Appaloosa and Pinto textures for this mod. But there are far more terrific textures! Don't miss them!
All horse textures used in this mod can be found in her mod: Zira Skyrim Horse Base http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19710

##########################

Open the archive and put the .bsa and the .esp into your SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data folder. Done!
Don't forget to check the .esp, if it's not checked anyways.

To uninstall simply remove the .bsa and .esp from the Data folder again, don't forget to remove files from the texture and meshes folder if you have made any changes there for this mod! ;)

How to change textures? Follow the next steps!

# How To Use This Mod And Change Textures #
# #
###########################################

1. SPAWN YOUR NEW HORSE (DEFAULT)

2. REPLACE THE VANILLA SADDLE (OPTIONAL)

3. REPLACE TEXTURES (OPTIONAL)

4. INTEGRATE INTO CONVENIENT HORSES MOD (OPTIONAL)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

1. SPAWN YOUR NEW HORSE (DEFAULT):

If you like everything the way it is...

... simply open your console.
[You open it with the ~ (tilde) key OR with the ^ key, depending on your language version/keyboard. If this doesn't open your console, look on the internet for information or ask in the comments section, maybe someone can help you.]

Type in "help jingles". You'll receive a list of codes for all objects called jingles. The first two digits will be generated dynamically, depending on what position in the load order your mod is. I put "xx" for those two digits here. Replace them with what you find in your list. The rest of the code has to be exactly what I give you here (the code is not case sensitiv, so no capital letters needed, though):

Horse 1 (Quarter horse texture by default) with pure hunter saddle: xx000D62
Horse 2 (Appaloosa texture by default) with medium hunter saddle: xx000D68
Horse 3 (Pinto texture by default) with full hunter saddle: xx00D6E

Choose a horse and type in "player.placeatme [code] 1" just like in this example:

player.placeatme 51000d62 1

This will spawn one quarter horse with a pure hunter saddle next to you, if your mod is in load order position 51. The horses will stay where you leave them and will fast travel with you. They have a default speed of 125. Vanilla is 100. It's that easy, you're done... have fun!

Tipp: If you want all three horses and want to give them each their own name, you should rename them in the CK. If you don't know how, ask. ;)

You will see that all horses have a different texture. That's for the purpose of seeing the difference better in the screenshots and when spawning the horse to see at once if you spawned the correct version you like.

If you want to get rid of spawned horses, open the console, click on the horse and type "disable". You can spawn a horse as many times as you want, and can disable each of them again. You can also enable. Just type in "prid [code]" hit enter and type "enable" and hit enter again.

Happy hunting! ;)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

2. REPLACE THE VANILLA SADDLE (OPTIONAL):

If you would like to see one of the saddles on your vanilla horses it's plain easy! Install the mod. Open the .bsa archive and extract on of the hunter saddle .nif files from meshes\TheWinterhawk\horse\. Rename it to saddle.nif and put it into your folder Data\meshes\actors\horse\character assets\. You're done! Enjoy!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

3. REPLACE TEXTURES (OPTIONAL):

You can exchange the textures for the horses as well as for the saddles or for the other stuff on the saddle:

Deer skull, hawk feathers, fox pelt, cooking pot and bear trap use the vanilla folder structures, speak: vanilla textures. Look into the vanilla folders and replace the files there, if you wish.

Wolf Pelt, Saddle Bags and Waterskin use custom textures, which you will find in the TheWinterhawk textures folder. You will have to extract the .bsa archive for this purpose.

The saddle itself uses a vanilla texture in this public version of the mod, yet it can be found in the custom TheWinterhawk textures folder for one good reason: In my private version I use a custom texture made by Sedryn.

Since Sedryn hasn't been in for a couple of months I cannot get permission for providing his textures to you. I tried, but no response is a "no". ;) So go for it for yourself. It's easy!

You should check out Sedryn's textures here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3200

If you want the real hunter style you should choose his leather and fur saddle and put the textures right in place. ;)

My structure is as simple as possible.

In this folder go ALL the meshes for this mod:
Data\meshes\TheWinterhawk\horse

In this folder go ALL the textures for the custom replacement:
Data\textures\TheWinterhawk\horse

For vanilla textures you have to use the default vanilla texture folder structure! Check the above info on what saddle elements use vanilla and which use custom textures.

Create these folders if necessary and put your desired retextured .dds files in there.

The single assets and their file names:

Saddle --> saddle.nif in the meshes, saddle.dds in the textures. If you like to have Sedryn's textures or any other, just copy that texture into the texture path as shown above and rename it to "saddle.dds". Sometimes you will have to put in the saddle_n.dds as well. If your texture replacement offers a saddle_n.dds simply use it. If it's named differently, name it "saddle_n.dds".

Data\textures\TheWinterhawk\horse\saddle.dds

Saddle Bags --> pouch01.dds in the textures. Same with the pouch01_n.dds.

Data\textures\TheWinterhawk\horse\pouch01.dds

Waterskin --> rest.dds in the textures. Rest_n.dds

Data\textures\TheWinterhawk\horse\rest.dds

Wolfpelt --> wolfpeltblack.dds, [the _n.dds file (wolfpelt_n.dds) is taken from the vanilla texture folder.]

Data\textures\TheWinterhawk\horse\wolfpeltblack.dds

Horse1 --> horse1.nif in meshes, horse1.dds in textures
Horse2 --> horse2.nif in meshes, horse2.dds in textures
Horse3 --> horse3.nif in meshes, horse3.dds in textures

You also might want to change horses manes and tails, so look for:

horsemanetail1.dds
horsemanetail2.dds
horsemaintail3.dds

All the other items use vanilla textures and have to be changed in the vanilla folder structure.

If you have problems exchanging textures, just ask in the comments section or PM me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

4. INTEGRATE INTO CONVENIENT HORSES MOD (OPTIONAL):

Now, there's a last thing you can do, IF you want to. Once you've textured your saddle the way you like it or if you are satisfied with the default look you can easily integrate it (actually replace it with other saddle armors) into your Convenient Horses mod, IF you use it. (I'm referring here to CONVENIENT HORSES VERSION 3.1, it may be different with other versions or might not work at all. Just try it!)

What I've done with my private Convenient Horses version is, I exchanged the Dwemer saddle, the Daedric saddle and the ebony saddle with my three saddle versions, because my hunter or his followers never use any of those saddles anyways. So, if I use the horse armor feature in my version of CH I can choose any of my three hunter saddle versions and simply exchange them by a few simple clicks.

To integrate/replace horse armor from CH with my hunter saddles you simply have to take the saddle(s) [speak: any of the huntersaddle .nif files in the meshes] of your choice and rename them to the saddle of CH you want to exchange. In my case it was dwemersaddle.nif, daedricsaddle.nif and ebonysaddle.nif and I had to put them in the correct meshes folder, of course. For Convenient Horses v3.1 this would be:

Data\meshes\actors\horse\character assets\dwemersaddle.nif
Data\meshes\actors\horse\character assets\daedricsaddle.nif
Data\meshes\actors\horse\character assets\ebonysaddle.nif

And you're done! Start CH and enjoy my hunter saddle variations, if the default CH armor doesn't suit your character or his followers. ;)

Hint: Of course, the saddles will still be called Dwemer, Daedric and Ebony in the dialogue options, but you'll get the hunter saddles instead. If you want to change the dialogiue options, you'd have to go into the CK and change it. It's not possible via .nif or .dds file replacements.

To remove the hunter saddles from CH again, just delete the above mentioned saddle.nif files.

This mod will definitely work with Convenient Horses 3.1, but it will definitely NOT work with any higher version of CH, if you use custom horses with custom saddles!!! That's due to the way the newer CH mod handles horse races. That's what mitchalek told me. Your horses will go invisible as soon as you try to put the CH armor on. But of course, you can use the vanilla horses and try to exchange my saddles with any other horse armors from the CH mod. Since you're only removing .nif files, there shouldn't be any problem with higher versions as long as you use vanilla horses.

Since my mod contains assets of other authors I cannot simply offer you using my assets this time. You would have to ask the other authors first. That goes for the waterskin, which was made by TreasureChest and it goes for Zira, who has made the horse skins. Should you want to use my saddles only, then asking TreasureChest will do. If TreasureChest gives you the "go!", then GO! I don't mind, just put the credits in for me AND him. And don't forget to link us. ;)

# Personal Tribute #

Finally I want to give a tribute to one of the most interesting horse personalities, I've ever met:
I named the horses in my mod Jingles. She was a horse I used to ride western style. With this mod I give her a little tribute for the time I had with her. Not easy to handle, but a pearl, once you've gained her trust. Thank you Jingles! I'll never forget you! =)

Enjoy my mod and take care!

TheWinterhawk =)
