Mage Tweaks Per Level (MTPL)
=========================================================================================================================

Author: WabbitTwaks - 11/24/2011

=========================================================================================================================
What it is
=========================================================================================================================

This is simply my attempt to create a better high end Mage build without it becoming God-like.

********************************** THIS IS A MANUAL TWEAKING OF THE GAME VARIABLES **************************************

If you DO NOT feel comfortable making changes to game variables with the in-game console, this mod is not for you.

However, they ARE PERFECTLY REVERSIBLE.

Disclaimer: I take absolutely no responsibility for "Game Breaking" of ANY KIND that might occur by using my tweaks.
You use them at YOUR OWN RISK. However, I have thoroughly tested them and have found no problems, but anything can
happen.

The idea
=========================================================================================================================

After seeing a few of complaints regarding how weak Mages were at the high end of the game, I started looking into how to
make one more powerful without overdoing it. Not an easy task without the CK but I thought I would give it a try and see.
After doing some testing I discovered the variable that increases the power of spells, PowerMod, (which potions
modify, btw) also affect items in your inventory. IMHO, Enchantments should not get any stronger from the time they were
created, so that wouldn't do. I decided instead to change other variables.

=========================================================================================================================
What it does
=========================================================================================================================

At each level, the Magicka cost for one school of magic (User choice) will decrease by 1%, all other schools decreases by
0.25%, your Base (unbuffed) Magicka Regeneration Rate increases 0.25% and you gain a natural (unbuffed) Magic Resistance
of 1%.

You choose which school gets increased each level, so you can specialize in one school or spread it around if you like.

These tweaks DO NOT nullify any other buff, natural or otherwise, they stack. So your perks, apparel, potions, etc.,
simply add to this.

The effect is, your spells don't get stronger but you get tougher against magic, your magicka regenerates faster
and your magicka cost goes down, it has the potentially to become 0. That Fireball spell may not do more damage but when
you can spam the heck out of it while backpedalling away from that chump with the 2 handed axe, you just may survive. It's
a slow, leveling, progression too, not an "all of a sudden" increase. The really big one though, to me anyway, is that
your items aren't affected.

=========================================================================================================================
Installation
=========================================================================================================================

Just place all the files into your installation folder (i.e. C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim Yours may differ)

=========================================================================================================================
How to Use
=========================================================================================================================

Note: In order to use this as it was intended, you must do this manually each level. Once the CK comes out I may look
into creating an .esp file to automate it. No promises.

When your Mage gains a level, decide which school of magic you wish to have as the main increase for that level (i.e.
Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion or Restoration). Open the Skyrim Console (usually the ~ [tilde] does it)
and type one (and ONLY one) of the following lines (without the [ ] or what is between them):

bat MageAltLvl [for Alteration]

bat MageConjLvl [for Conjuration]

bat MageDestLvl [for Destruction]

bat MageIlluLvl [for Illusion]

bat MageRestLvl [for Restoration]

the batch file will then decrease that schools magicka cost by 1%, all other schools by 0.25%, increase Magicka Regen
by 0.25% and increase your Magic Resistance by 1%.

=========================================================================================================================
Retroactive tweaks
=========================================================================================================================

Because this is a manual tweak that you do each level, there is no real way to automate anything previous for your current
level. However, you can modify a batch file I included and run it once the first time to catch you up. To do so, follow
these steps:

1. Subtract 1 from your current characters level (this accounts for everyone starting at level 1 already)

2. Open the Retro.txt file with a text editor. (Notepad works perfectly fine)

3. Decide which schools and the number of times your character would have increased during his/her career thus far with
the total adding up to the number from step 1.

4. Change the zeroes to reflect those choices.

5. Save it.

6. Once in game, open the console and type:

bat Retro

7. Close the console and continue on your merry way! :D

Here is an example of the above process for a 25th level:

Since the Mage is 25th we will use 24 (25 - 1 = 24)

We have decided over the course of her career (24 level increases), she would have chosen Destruction 16 times,
Restoration 6 times, and Conjuration 2 times.

(16 + 6 + 2 = 24)

Remember that a chosen school gets 1 per level, all other schools get 0.25 per level, MagickaRate (regen) gets
0.25 per level and MagicResist gets 1 per level.

Now we make the necessary changes to the variables and would look like this:

******************* The notes below this SHOULD NOT BE IN THE FILE *********************
player.modav AlterationMod 6 <----- Not chosen 24 levels -- 24 x 0.25 = 6
player.modav ConjurationMod 7.5 <----- Chosen 2 levels & not chosen 22 levels -- (2 x 1) + (22 x 0.25) = 2 + 5.5 = 7.5
player.modav DestructionMod 18 <----- Chosen 16 levels & not chosen 8 levels -- (16 x 1) + (8 x 0.25) = 16 + 2 = 18
player.modav IllusionMod 6 <----- Not chosen 24 levels -- 24 x 0.25 = 6
player.modav RestorationMod 10.5 <----- Chosen 6 levels & not chosen 18 levels -- (6 x 1) + (18 x 0.25) = 6 + 4.5 = 10.5
player.modav MagickaRate 6 <----- This is never chosen -- 24 levels -- 24 x 0.25 = 6
player.modav MagicResist 24 <----- This is never chosen -- 24 levels -- 24 x 1 = 24

Uninstalling
=========================================================================================================================

To reverse the changes you have made and return all the variables to their vanilla state do the following:

1. In game, unequip everything that Fortifies Magic, affects Magic Resistance or affects Magicka Regeneration.
Also make sure no potions affecting these are currently in effect (wait for the duration to end if there are).

2. Open the in-game console and type in:

bat Revert

-or-

bat RevertBreton (if your character is a Breton)

3. All better! Close the console and Happy Adventuring!

Note: If you wish to verify the values are back to normal, before equipping anything, from the console type:

bat ListVal

All the "Level-up" values should now be 0 with the exception of MagickaRate which should now be 3.00.
IF YOU ARE A BRETON, MagicResist should now be 25.00, MagickaRate should be 3.00 and all others should be 0.

Now simply delete the files from the installation directory or they can stay there. If you dont use them, they hurt
nothing by being there and are very small. hehe.

You are more than welcome to play around with the variables as you see fit. It's your game! Have fun! :D

I just thought some might benefit from my findings and I decided to share. All feedback is welcome. So please comment!
Ranting and trolling will simply be ignored or reported (depending on the severity).

A very special Thank You to Bethesda for one of the greatest games ever made!
(Yeah so everyone thinks things need to be fixed in it. When you go to a buffet, all the food is not spiced to just your
liking, is it? They have to create for the crowd on a whole. Then you just add what you want to taste. THAT is what
makes these games so utterly awesome! They make them with US in mind!)

Thanks to you for downloading! And Enjoy!
