"Animals he understood, there emotions were plain and honest. Yet humans and their complicated social games always frustrated and annoyed him; he was never good at playing the games so many of them seemed to enjoy. Oh he could manipulate and charm them when he wanted but it was always different when it was with someone he cared about. Then he was always nervous about doing or saying something that might drive them away or that fear of being abandoned. It was one reason he had been so happy to join the Black Wolf Company. It was like the pack of wolves he had grown up with, only in this case it was made up of societies outcasts and misfits. They were all brothers and sisters united against the world around them." (and and the description of the mother of Grim included)
It may seem silly, but
this is the first time I felt many emotions like that, it made me think of many things that put me to tears, sadness and happiness at the same time.
This is an incredible part of your story, I admire your talent for writing, and many thank you very much for sharing such lines, sincerely.
The books I am reading, the Black Company, also have this very close knit brotherhood that I somewhat wish I had. This type of thing is common in the military ... although I am not the military sort myself. I just like the sense of comradeship and trust that can often form.
Anyhow glad you enjoyed the story

The most powerful words in this story, very true-to-life for me. I always feel as though I know your characters intimately when I finish reading the story, a rare talent, thanks for sharing it with us.
So... Grim had a thing for Bryn huh? Why does that not surprise me? With that honey voice I think EVERYONE who comes across the master rogue would want to slip their hand down his... well, he's sexy is all i'm saying. Though not sure about thebeard in your version; makes him a bit more warrior like and somehow less roguish IMO.
I wonder what tale Grim will tell to the Khajiits? I do hope we get to see / read it in a flashback??
Beuatiful images as always; the vintage shots of Marissa were particularly stirring. Keep em coming sweetie!
But then as things happen Grim met Erik .. and they became an item. There might be some angst with Bryn. I mean Grim could dump Erik and go for Bryn ... but I don't really see that as being something he would do. But there could be some jealousy.
I have the core plot line down for the entire story ... but all the "side quests" are just notes and ideas so they are flexible. I use the core (foundation) to guide my writing path but leave myself room to explore ideas so a lot could happen.
As for the BWC story - almost done and it is a flashback. I finished the screenshots tonight, posted a teaser, and have been writing down notes and ideas all week ... even got some permission for a little surprise at the end Should be up this weekend if real life doesn't get in the way :p
The interaction of your characters is great as always!
Grims Tales of Adventure
It also includes all the Black Wolf Company stories I wrote
I agree with Erik though, Grim's search for answers won't even diminish the grand role and the heart healing that Marissa has provided to him, since he loves her like she is his real mother. Besides his search for his biological mother based not on curiosity, since it is very important business for not only him, but his father and let not forget about the Eye of Magnus too, tied with Winterhold College.
And for now Grim joins the Thieves Guild... which is unexpected for someone of his characters, thus Bryn's reaction. I must admit Bryn is such a tease, seems he just likes to cause mischief, remembering certain details from Grim's youth but I am glad that besides his jokes he is willing to help. Overall, in my opinion, Bryn is the most truth worthy, if that can be said so about the thief, yet he has certain charm and appeal, besides he seems to be always affable. But I can imagine, that Grim encounter with Mercer will probably result in serious conflict, due to their completely different way of seeing things and personalities... while Erik also has mixed feelings about this whole shady business. I am looking forward for continuation and thank you for sharing your wonderful work!
In regard to the TG - if you recall way back when I wrote a little story about Grim at the Crossroads of Life. There he was faced with joining the TG as part of his work for the BWC, it was something his Captain had ordered him to do. During that three part story he debated the moral issues involved and finally decided to head to Ivarstead:
There would always be corruption and criminals no matter what he did. But perhaps if he ran the guild he would have more control over it and do some good in the process. More likely he was just deluding himself.
In the end he decided that Riften was going no where and Grosta should be okay for one more year. So for now he decided it would be best to learn more about his own destiny and the visions Fenrir had been sending him.
So now, about a year later, he is back where he started, pulled by destiny and fate. I do want to be clear on one thing - Grim is not joining the TG because he wants to but because forces are pushing him there. We all know life sometimes does not give us the options we want so now Grim and Erik will have to navigate the physical maze of the cistern that is the home of the TG but their own moral maze.
I see three options for Grim - he can join the guild just long enough to get what he needs and then leave. That is the simplest and least risky. Second he could attempt a coup and take it over - turning it into a branch of the BWC and a spy network whose main interest is the good of Skyrim as a whole. This has the most risk and requires the most work. Lastly he could destroy it from within and obliterate the guild entirely. That, however, has many moral issues as well. It means lying to all the friends he has in the guild (and he has a few, not all thieves are evil), betraying the trust he earns, and killing many people who may not really deserve it.
I think the original guild master, Karliah, and Brynjolf are overall decent people in many ways and not killers or out to steal from the lower class and peasents. Anyhow lots to think about
While writing a book here I will take the moment to say one other thing for the few people who return to read these comments. The Black Wolf Company was originally created in my mind based off the series by Glenn Cook, called the "Black Company" which was a band of elite mercenaries. They were not good by any means, although they became a bit more good leaning as the series went on, but they were not evil either.
I then added in all my own touches to the idea. Robin Hood and his Merry Men (minus the political connotations) gave them a bit more "good" feel. Steal from the rich and give to the poor is the main theme here. They look out for the common man. I also tossed in some druidic/shaman aspects in regards to protecting nature.
The BWC are not the Knights Templar, they are not Paladins or even followers of Stendarr. But in the final say they are a force for good in the world even if they can play a bit fast and loose with their morals at times.
Anyhow sorry for the long ramble but your post got me thinking and I wanted to explain a couple of things for anyone who happens to read it I am sure I will reference things I say here in future stories as well.
