About this mod
This mod does a number of little things to make guards just flat out better in melee combat.
- Permissions and credits
This mod mostly just alters the classes of guards so that town guards protect themselves better with light armor, and all guards in general are better at hand to hand combat. The armor guards wear was rebalanced to be slightly better. Guard inventories were also added to here and there.
Mod is in a state of completion. No new updates coming from me.
This mod was created using Oblivion 1.2.0.416
I got this idea from poking around the construction set one day. I noticed all the city based guards were wearing light armor, but only had skill in heavy armor. I also noticed how unbalanced the guard's armor was. So, I went about creating this mod by...
-Townguard armor now has improved armor ratings and hp, putting it inbetween chainmail and mithril. (The helmet, shields, and cuirasses)
-Legion, Palace, and Blades armor now have improved ratings and hp (Blades didn't get an improvement in armor hp), putting it inbetween steel and dwarven armor.
-All guards that carry bows, now carry a fine steel or silver bow, and carry a minimum of 10 silver arrows.
-All guards carry silver melee weapons.
-Many guards that did not have shields or were missing bits of armor, now have it.
-Created 4 new guard classes that are unplayable to the player. Each class had the same skills mostly...all 4 were strength, endurance, combat, and used sneak, athletics, block, marksman, and hand to hand. This is where I needed 4 new classes...2 classes used light armor, the other 2 used heavy armor. Also, 2 classes used blade, and the other blunt. Basically, I had hvy blade, light blade, hvy blunt, and light blunt. If a guard wore the light townguard armor, then he went into the light category, and then his weapon would determine the rest. Bottomline, by doing this, all the townguards are now actually good at wearing light armor, and all guards in general are good at hand to hand combat. I accomplished all this without sacrificing any of a particular guard's combat ability. However, this really isn't unbalanced at all...imperials are naturally good at hand to hand fighting, and the imperial legion is supposed to be the well trained swat team of oblivion.
-Townguards are like militia troops, while troops wearing imperial legion armor are front line troops. To reflect this, townguards are leveled 10 above the player, and legions and palace troops are leveled 15 above the player. Captains of towns, and bodyguards for the counts/countesses are also leveled 15 above the player.
-Captains of towns and bodyguards of counts/countesses that wore light armor, recieved mithril in place of thier chainmail.
-Guards that patrol the stables of towns at night recieved a torch.
Effects on Quests...
Guards will be more effective in melee combat, but they won't last forever. Quests that have guards involved vs. others will be slightly easier, but not by a huge amount. Magic should hit them just as hard as before. Quests where it's you vs. the guards will be slightly more difficult.
