About this mod

This mod 'ungates' all locks, allowing you to try to pick them even if you don't have the matching perk. Having a perk could make it easier to pick the lock for that level; or add a bonus to all locks; or both. You can even make lockpicking trivial. You can adjust the difficulties and progression for each aspect of lockpicking as you see fit.

Description

What it does:
  • Allows you to try to unlock any lock, not mattering the perks you have.
  • By default, if you don't have the Locksmith perks, it will be progressively more difficult to pick locks and your bobby pins will break more.
  • As you acquire Locksmith perks, locks become easier (and bobby pins break less).
  • It comes with 2 presets (see below)
  • Option to have Locksmith01 govern Novice locks.
  • Affects the following lockpicking properties: Sweet Spot, Partial Pick and Break Chance.
  • Full MCM customization allowing you to change anything you want and create your own preset (you can even make Lockpick super easy if you want).

Presets included:
  • Skyrim-like: As you acquire Locksmith perks (even Locksmith04), all locks become easier (and bobby pins break less), similar to having the Lockpicking skill in Skyrim level up. Novice locks are governed by Locksmith01.
  • Vanilla-like: As you acquire Locksmith perks, the locks of that level become easier (and bobby pins break less). Novice locks are considered as if you already had a perk for it (like in Vanilla).

Default difficulty changes (both presets)
  • Without perks: Novice locks are 4x more difficult to pick, progressively increasing difficulty to Master locks which are 10x more difficult. With all perks, difficulty gravitates around Vanilla values.
  • In vanilla, break chance for all locks are the same. With this mod, break chance now increases with difficulty. Without perks, Novice breaks 75% more while Master breaks 4x more. With perks, there is still scaling difficulty with Master breaking twice more than Novice.

Installation


F4SE and MCM are hard requirements.
Install like any other mod.
Comes with a FOMOD where you can choose the preset and if you want script sources.


Compatibility

Not compatible with any mod that edits the Locksmith perks. But a patch is easy to make since I only change the gating mechanism, perk descriptions and add entry points to my quest. If you're familiar with xEdit, just carry over my changes and it will be fine.

Also, by default.  this mod makes Lockpicking more difficult and rewarding, to give a new approach to the Locksmith perks. So don't go installing Deft Hands or Enable Lockpick Debug Menu. Those mods offer the opposite of what I'm trying to do here. AT MOST you can use Remember Lockpick Angle Updated.
