if you don't want to download this mod, then I suggest what Wiki says, put them in a chest behind a powered wall, or a hole or someplace that NPCs cannot reach.

This won't stop junk from disappearing. This glitch is a massive problem that has been around for years, ever since the game was released and never has been fixed because it's embedded in the entire workshop system of Fallout 4. The best way I have found is, break down your materials into (Bars, Screws, Threads, Adhesive) and put them in a separate chest beside the workshop.

Did you modify vanilla workshop scripts? That's a really bad idea if so.

Can you suggest an alternative? ( I hope )

I wouldn't use mods that modify vanilla workshop scripts other than the Unofficial Patch. They're a complicated mess and prone to breaking as is. Kinggath has bent over backwards finding creative ways to work around and with the vanilla workshop scripts without editing them in Sim Settlements, it can be done it just takes more effort.

That's nice but do you actually have something better? If not then your comment is pretty pointless. Because nobody really cares what mods you or I wouldn't use. Just sayin. :D

Stuff goes missing if you build a Robot workbench from Automatron (it's not really gone, just invisible), store the robot workbench in the local workshop you built it in and your stuff is back.

It drove me crazy, until i realized that it only happened in settlement i had built a robot workbench in, so i stored it, and got thousands and thousands of materials back instantaneously.

It's just one of the thousands of bugs of Bethesda, those guys suck at coding, they manage to mess up every game they make.
The first thing i did when Todd Howard said it just works was laughing so hard that i almost choked on my drink.
Been playing their games for a while, they always make such stupid mistakes with each new game and update.

And attacks usually only lose you materials for auto repairing turrets and food, and weapons and ammo due to stealing, not thousands of materials, raiders don't steal 1000 adhesive. Tip, they only steal weapons from your workbench if there is also ammo for the weapons in there, so just throw some pipe weapons in there and keep your legendaries on your person or give them to your settlers for safe keeping, you can always ask them back from your settlers, and raiders don't steal from them.
And if they steal pipe weapons, they're going to shoot with them instead of the better weapons they had on them, the AI is dumber then a rock.
Another example of bethesda's glorious coding.

I just went back to Hangman's to find I was missing about 2,500 junk items- pretty much 300 hours of scavenging I had done on this character. I reloaded a save from 12-14 hours ago and it's there in the workshop.

So what happened ? Did raiders just steal 50,000 caps worth of materials even through my settlement wasn't attacked ? Man, I had all my raw materials stored there, now I can't even build one stinking water pump!

Anyone know if this conflicts with Uncapped Settlement Surplus ?

same here im kinda confused about how it happens. if it is because of attacks like other people say maybe they are just bad at making settlements? first thing i do - wall that s#*! off. second thing i do - heavy turrets every like 10 meters on the fence. they mow down the mutant attacks in like 2 seconds flat XD

      *shrug*

Its a combination of both. Lategame its not a huge issue as you can easily get the materials to build 1000 turrets. But walls and turret location have no part in the calculation the game makes. It takes your Population + Defense value, then rolls a d100, and compares that to the attack value, which is also a d100+25-50. So you have no way of winning 100% of the time unless you have about 130-150 in defense units. So early-mid game on survival difficulty, its quite hard to have one set up to win all the time, let alone be there to defend it if the game even tells you about it. I made this mostly as a temporary bandaid to supplement me as I play (Hence version 0.5). I plan on eventually looking into it notifying you of what was stolen instead. Possibly more. Because I like the idea of losing things to attacks. I just want to know what was lost lol.

im having that issue right now, all my adhesive is like gone, and i hardly do gun mods, and all ive been building is walls and foundation, also, i had probly over a thousand units of rubber and its completly gone, plus circuitry has been dissappearing, i was attacked a while ago tho, so that may be why, but damn how did they truck out that much material off an island, thank you for making this mod, gonna try it out right now!

Fixing un-announced attacks is a good idea, but editing vanilla workshop scripts is a bad idea. Do you mind sharing what you changed? Maybe we can come up with a another way to do it.

This is why I read through posts before installing a mod.

I wasn't aware this was an issue in the game. Though maybe I just never noticed I was missing some junk.

Ive seen tons of posts about it, and recently had some of mine go missing. From what I could gather through research and experience, the cause was an attack on the settlement that never got reported, and thus, went through an auto-resolve, some people have lost upwards of thousands of mats. Even if you have High defense, you can still lose these if they get auto resolved.

I am not even sure it is due to an attack. I have no settler in Red Rocket and I stored all my junk there because there are all the workbenches needed. Nothing anywhere else, none of the settlements is populated. (except graygarden populated with robots). So only graygarden is sometimes attacked never any other. Of course I don't have trading routes or defense since I never built anything
But all the junk stored at red rocket suddenly disappeared from the workbench.
I wonder if it doesn't reset when the storage reaches a certain amount of items because I remember I had over 2000 optic fiber after ransacking jamaica plains several times and now I have 0. I still have 32 steel and wood, nothing else.
As we can't expect anymore official fix or patch it is a good idea to look what is wrong here

Interesting. I thought I was just paranoid at the beginning, or the subject of game updates somehow losing me items, but I never clarified if I was losing Junk in raids, but seems I just put 600 turrets in every important settlement I haven't really noticed it since lol.

This might explain why I can never seem to finish Optimus Prime! Can never seem to get 2,000 screws at one time.
