So little I guess because modding it is pretty limited and Ys series is just niche compared to other jrpg behemoths like Final'overrated'Fantasy etc.
I don't know exactly where character names are exactly stored but I guess it will be in files which got officialy translated. Just look in files inside "en" called subfolders. Most of files can be easily edited just with any text editor (personally I recommend Notepad++). By quick look I've found references to example Adol name in tons of random files and in some obvious ones it somehow makes no changes to in-game names. Just try browsing and editing with notepad and eventually You will find correct files, good luck.
