If you use steamdeck, check this post! Use "Letterbox Removal for Windows Store" version to get rid of the letterboxes in cutscenes and menu. Contrary to what the describtion says it works on steam version too. For this version you only need to replace ui.par located in data folder of the game, so no need to mess around with mod managers etc. (although I use it with RMM and it works fine, as long as you force dinput8.dll override for wine in launch parameters)
Hey just installed the LetterboxRemoval with ryu mod manager however there are now white bars in the cutscenes instead of the black bars! Running in 1280x800.
EDIT: Just to be clearer. The white lines were appearing in EVERY CUTSCENE, even the non prerendered ones.
So yeah, this comment is gonna be artsy fartsy, but I feel like I have to. These cutscenes were made with 16 by 9 in mind. That's why in the original ps2 version, playing in 4 by 3 has black bars having a 16 by 9 display instead of having no black bars at all. Get rid of them in a ultrawide display just makes the framing worse. Having a lot of empty space on the sides.
Just noting that ultrawide is fine in normal gameplay cause you always have full control of the camera. So it's just nice have the extra view. But keep the cutscenes as is. The 16 by 9 display is how cutscenes were meant to be seen
