To people who sail the high seas and are raging about how RMM fucks their game up:

RMM might not work on Yakuza 0, 6 (and maybe Kiwami 2), meaning you can see it running in Task Manager but doesn't start.
End task, delete whatever RMM files you copied to the root folder, and use ParTool by Kaplas80 instead.

This will be needed for mods that contain folders named after ".par" files in the game "data" folder.
(Common ones are "chara" "auth" that replace character models. Usually not needed for the popular music restoration or 4k font mods.)

Use voidtools Everything (everyone should already have it) to quickly check if the downloaded base mod files exist anywhere other than in the downloaded mod folder (e.g. "Yakuza 6 Haruka mod" -> "chara" -> "auth" -> "c_ax_haruka" -> "c_ax_haruka.gmd"). If it doesn't, then the file is compressed in a .par file with the name of one of the folders in the mod folder (e.g. in this case the mod subfolder named "chara" will correspond to a game file named "chara.par" somewhere in the "data'" folder.)

If it does appear in the game files, then you might get it to work by just replacing the files.

    Using ParTool :
    1. Inside the v1.3.4-windows-x64 folder of ParTool (or whatever the most updated version is), there would be ParTool.exe.
    2. Check the folder name of the downloaded mod (e.g. "Majima miniskirt mod.zip“ -> "chara" -> "auth" "dds" "tops" -> ...).
    3. Find the corresponding .par file in the actual game files (e.g. "Yakuza 6" -> "data" -> "chara.par"). Copy paste it into "v1.3.4-windows-x64".
    4. Drag the copied .par file into "ParTool.exe" (e.g. "chara.par" into "ParTool.exe"). It will start unpacking the .par file.
    5. When the process is completed, a ".par.unpack" folder will be created in v1.3.4-windows-x64 (e.g. "chara.par.unpack").
    6. That unpacked folder may or may not contain subfolders with the same name as subfolders in the mod (e.g. "auth" "dds" "tops" exist in both the unpacked .par folder and the downloaded mod folder). Copy and replace the contents within the mod subfolder to the created ".par.unpack" folder.
    7. Back to the v1.3.4-windows-x64 folder, drag the .par.unpack folder into ParTool.exe (e.g. "chara.par.unpack"). It will start to compress and create the modded .par file that you need. This process is CPU intensive and takes ages for large files like chara.par (e.g. 1h with R5 3600 at 98% for 1GB chara.par in Yakuza 6). Gather and replace all mod files that modify a single .par file before you compress it again to save you from pain.
    8. When it's done, copy and replace the created .par file into the corresponding location in the game files.

Some mods modify .par files inside .par files, meaning you'll have to unpack twice, though I've never had luck with those (Haruka main menu mod comes to mind).

Remember to back up the original .par files before you replace them, in case they don't work (it happened with Yakuza 0 4k font mod for me).

This is just what worked for me the most of the time. Let me know if there are quicker, more reliable ways. Cheers.
    1. What if the mod tries to modify a par file in some of the data subfolders but there isn't one? I unpacked the hact folder and there is a "h1020_kiryucrash_neck" subfolder in the mod but there isn't a corresponding par file for that. There seems to be only cmn.par, ptc.par and 000.par in these par files so I don't think the "h1020_kiryucrash_neck" is compressed in another par file.

No matter what you cannot get RMM to work on GamePass games. always states that it is outdated. "Game version is unsupported. Please use the latest Steam version of the game.
RyuModManager will still generate the load order, but the game might CRASH or not function properly"

in spite of the fact that the GitHub page says it works on GamePass. this applies to every Yakuza game that RMM supports. when launching the game your mods will NOT apply. either fix your mod manager or quit lying to your audience.

Yeah, just because it was mentioned on git i kept trying and trying until it became clear that it won't work. Either mention it's not supported or if someone can confirm here for it to be working on gamepass version... Thanks.

Bro how about you chill out? "quit lying to your audience" how about you quit making demands to people who make mods for free?

First off, it DOES work with Game Pass games. You have to put the RMM files in the Content/runtime/media folder, do all the usual stuff, then launch the game WITH THE "startup.exe" AND NOT the actual game's exe. RMM will still tell you that the version is unsupported, but it will work.
Second, the version that has added GamePass support is a fork made by another dev and not SutandoTsukai so not only are you being an asshole for no rightful reason, you're also being an asshole to the wrong person.

Please, refrain from commenting on modding websites for the rest of your fucking life (or until you learn to actually respect people who bring you the mods for free).

Thank you. I was almost pulling my hair out not getting any mods to work. Using the "Startup.exe" made everything work for me.

RMM isn't working for me. Every time I got Warning: Some folders in the root of "Goro Makoto v1.0.1" do not exist in the game's data. Check if the mod was extracted correctly.
    It apply to every mod.

For Linux users (or the bros playing Steam Deck), installation's the same way. But there's some tricks you gotta do.

Ensure you're in desktop mode, open your chosen game's local files, and dump it where the game name's .exe file is.

Then, in steam, you need to add a launch command.

    "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 8.0/proton" run "/home/deck/Steam Games/steamapps/common/Yakuza Kiwami 2/RyuModManagerGUI.exe" %command%

First quote is to choose which proton to run RMM in (trying to use this command without it results in it crashing). Just copy and paste it, default proton works well with RMM. "run" tells steam to run a certain program instead of whatever it normally uses. Then the second quote is the .exe file you tell it to use. Simply right click RMM.exe and hit copy location, and paste it in there. Then %command% tells linux that it's ready to execute the command, without it it will not work. Make sure both addresses are in quotes

Another thing you gotta do if you don't wanna keep deleting and reentering the launch command from above everytime you need to make a change: Using protontricks to make dinput8.dll be ran native, builtin. Install that on the Discover store, or whatever other linux OS uses. Launch it, and pick the game you want to mod. Hit Ok. You'll get a few error messages, just hit ok on both of them.

When it pops up again, pick default wineprefix. Run winecfg, go to libraries. Under "new override for library" enter dinput8.dll EXACTLY how the file is spelled. Then edit it and ensure that it is Native, Builtin in that order. What this does is that proton will check the .dll in the game's location first, then uses proton's default if it doesn't exist. This will work on any launch command requiring you to input WINEDLLOVERRIDE.

When both is done properly, all you have to do to switch from the game to the mod manager is to just delete the %command% part to play the game, or enter it if you wish to use the mod manager. If you're trying to mod Like a Dragon Gaiden, or possibly even 8, you may want to use Shin Ryu Mod Manager instead. Same mod manager, but updated to handle newer games better.

Hope this helps prevent headaches to anyone trying to mod this damned thing

Thanks you so much. Running RMM in the same prefix appears to be what I did wrong before (simply was running it in my default wine prefix).

Btw there's no need to bother writing dll override via protontricks, you can add somewhere before %command% an env variable, like that:

      `WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”dinput8=n,b” %command%`
