Because XCOM2 has had save corruption issues in iron man since day one. If you want to take 10+ minutes per save scum, by all means do so. You're better off using console commands. Once you lose a 60+ hour Iron Man save, you'll understand.
I love this mod. Playing without ironman feels boring .. i don t know why but honestman dosen t give me the same vibe, even your mod is someting like honestman.... but having a safty net for save curruption is a god send for ironman.
Solid truth! Lost too many Ironman cmpaigns on all xcoms notoriously bugged! found playing on steam deck and having a second cloud save was also a life saver
Start this program, then your XCOM game, every single time you play an ironman campaign. This mod does not change any XCOM game code. This is a separate program. Both have to be running at the same time. "XCOM game" is any version supported by the mod.
I don't "know" this, only my educated guess: It monitors the save game file(s) for a change and makes a copy when that happens. I'm not in any way trivializing this wonderful utility. Only explaining to answer the 'do I need to run this every time I play?' questions.
Save file corruption can happen with any PC game. I avoid ironman mode in any game I want to use 3rd party mods with. Thanks for coding, debugging, and providing this!
If you have the game on steam, you can use the lauch options to run both at once, using only the usual "play" button.
Create a .bat file that opens both this mod and the game (https://www.thewindowsclub.com/launch-multiple-programs-with-one-shortcut-in-windows-10). Add the mod first, then the game.
Save it at the root of your XCOM 2 folder
In the launch options for the game on steam, write *name of your .bat file* %COMMAND%
Voilà, the ironman save backup opens, followed closely by the game itself.
This doesn't backup the XCOM 2: War of the Chosen - Tactical Legacy Pack (forced) ironman save game. And the mod author never said it did. The TLP DLC creates a separate save file and also changes "profile.bin". You'll need to manually back them up (or write a BAT to do it).
C:\Users\[Windows user name]\Documents\My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\SaveData profile.bin save_LEGACY [whatever legacy operation, mission, turn it was saved on] example: "save_LEGACY OP 1- Mission 4, Turn 1"
