Really great work here dave! Really love this mod and created a youtube video review for it over on my channel! Thanks for your hard work! Link to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39W5QfQk_0U&list=PLDL-FFGW9sLY2mqf2FB3rIlrogabm-oUY
Tried a mod similar to this a while ago, but was a bit annoyed that rookies would automatically equip random, mismatched pieces and sometimes invisible pieces, so it's good to hear that this mod fixes that.
One question though, with that mod I mentioned (I believe it was Unlock All Armor Options), Soldiers given civilian armor and invisible legs/arms (so that the civilian torsos could give their own arms and legs) would end up floating around in the Avenger's background without limbs. Is that still a problem in this mod?
1.3 doesn't seem to include Advent Armor by Dor, at least Armour_Dor_Bearer.upk, Armour_Dor_Captain.upk, Armour_Dor_Lancer.upk and Armour_Dor_Trooper.upk aren't present in the archive as they were with 1.1
Dor updated his armor mod at least 3-4 times and I decided to remove the old version I had. Now, you can easily use both mods, although his mod does allow rookies to randomly equip the armor.
This mod doesn't do anything I lvled up to sgt and still nothing... ugh I wish the unlock all armor mod still worked... does anyone have anything that works with anarchy dlc that unlocks all clothing options in the game???
Love that we paid for dlc just to break the game... i'm bout to uninstall it I much rather have all the civilian options than the little bit they added...
On steam, I have also updated the description and added a video of how to use it; but the file version is the same as nexus. Please check the description and video to see if this helps any.
This mod apparently allows different pieces to be used with others. It doesn't unlock any of the unused clothing in the game. Currently the ones that do are all broken from the newest patch. This mod will apparently work when they are fixed. If ever.

Does this mod work with the latest anarcy dlc update? So far I can't change to civilian or armor parts both in character pool and even in my save game where I am near the end
The other mod that does this same thing (by olliz0r) is also broken so I think it's because of the anarchy dlc
Other users (on steam) have said the mod works fine with the AC DLC. I have also updated the description and added a video of how to use it; but the file version is the same as nexus. Please check the description and video to see if this helps any.
Update: version 1.1, February 26. In the previous version, this mod prevented several features in the customization screen from working. The color palettes displayed black, the veteran customization options were not available, and the soldier view would not rotate. These are all fixed, thanks to a suggestion from eXecator @ nexus.
All the previously disabled features (biography, color palettes, model rotation, advanced customization) now work again. However, unfortunately the basic functionality of your mod also appears to be gone. In all my soldiers I can only change armor looks within the current model's armor category (meaning if my soldier has an exo suit equipped but the look had been changed in the previous version of your mod to kevlar armor, then the props menu will only allow other kevlar armor looks to be selected). Un- an re-equipping the armor under loadout resets the original look of the armor in question, and with it the selectable options under torso/arms/legs for the actual armor type.
This means having your new version installed is identical to not having a mod at all.
Perhaps the mod is not installed correctly. Please find the file My Documents\My Games\XCOM 2\XComGame\Config, and in that, use notepad or similar to edit the file XComEngine.ini. Search for the string DLA. You should find one line like this: ModOverrides=("X2SimpleBodyPartFilter","DLA_X2SimpleBodyPartFilter"). The syntax I show here may be off slightly, I do not have the game installed where I am right now. That line must be present, and the older line with "XComCharacterCustomization", "DLA_XComCharacterCustomization" must not be present.
Can you check this? If the file does not look this way, please try unsubscribing from the mod and resubscribing.
Augh, cannot edit previous post to turn off emoticons.

ModClassOverrides=(BaseGameClass="X2SimpleBodyPartFilter", ModClass="DLA_X2SimpleBodyPartFilter") is the exact syntax in question. It is present in my XComEngine.ini, whereas "XComCharacterCustomization" is not. Based on what you said the mod therefore does appear to be installed correctly.
Does the armor selection still work for your game with this update? Maybe something is wrong on my end only, but the only other mods I have installed are CaptainBubsAccessoriesPack and KV_Invisible_PSIAmps, neither of which should interfere, I believe.
I tested it before I uploaded it. I cannot test again for another 4 hours or so. I will let you know. The mod is also on steam workshop under the same name, and I will look for any new comments there.
I have rechecked, and I cannot see this problem. When I click on any soldier to set the torso, I see a full list of > 70 torso types. It could be some kind of mod conflict. The only class changed by my mod is X2SimpleBodyPartFilter. It is unlikely that you have any other mod which modifies this same file, unless you are using the related mod Unlock All Armor Options. If you are using that one, please stop using it, since this one does the same thing only better. If that is the problem, please recheck XcomEngine.ini afterwards, as I mentioned, and ensure that no other mod is overriding X2SimpleBodyPartFilter.
Well, thanks for checking. I am confused over my problem, as a mod conflict does not explain it. But as you report that it works as intended on your end, something weird must just be going on on mine. When I had downloaded your new version, I just copied it into my Mods folder, overwriting the previous version. Was that a wrong way to install it maybe?
I did some further checking, just in case someone else might have the same issue: If I recruit a new rookie and try to customize his armor, the torso option is greyed out completely, prohibiting me from choosing even the normal options. Arms and legs provide what is appropriate for the armor that is equipped by the rookie (Warden in my case).
My main squad still has the armor looks they had before I installed your update, and the torso, arm and leg options under customize are the one for the current look, not the current armor type. Beyond the 4-5 normal choices, nothing is available. The one character I had with an NPC look cannot change anything (torso, arms or legs). If I unequip and reequip the armor, the modified looks are gone.
If anyone has this same problem and figures out how to solve it, please let me know.
This is weird, and obviously painful. It sounds like the way you installed it, coupled with what I consider a game bug, *might* explain the problem. First, please remove the old mod directory entirely, and then re-expand the mod zip file there. The old mod had a different file, which you don't want, and overwriting the old one doesn't get rid of that. After that, please recheck XComEngine.ini as before. These unwanted lines just have a bad habit of re-appearing.
Update is missing the .XComMod file, easy fix I just copyied from another renamed and plugged in the publisher ID and renamed to armorvariety.
*EDIT* - Don't see anything but helmets also, tried this with a new game but nodda. I always delete all my configs in \Users\User\documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config and have no old files that would cause problems, and only downloaded 1.1
Here is list of my other mods that may or may not be a conflict: 24aNewHairmod 24bMoreeyecolors 24cMoreskincolors 24dMorearmorcolors 25DiverseFacepaints 26ArmorStatCustomiser 27RookieArmorMod 27xUniforms 28CapnbubsAccessoriesPack 28xFreetheHood 29GrimStyleArmor 29xCustomBandanas 30AllArmorOptions <-- I installed this after trying ArmorVariety and its working.
What goes wrong when the xcommod file is missing? The zip file is literally a copy of the published steam workshop mod directory.
It is highly likely that RookieArmorMod conflicts with this mod, but I had never heard of it. Can you try removing this mod, and see if the effect happens? If that is not it, please try with no other mods just to confirm it does "something" for you, and then if possible, add mods back in to see which breaks it. If it is only 1-2 mods which conflict, then I will work with that author to resolve the conflict.
EDIT: Do you have the resistance armor DLC? If you do not, then you should not use the rookie armor mod, regardless of what other mods you may use. I am not sure what the problem would look like, but it definitely won't work. If you find the conflict please do let me know.
The XComMod file is required for those who don't use a Steam version of XCom 2. Without it, mods won't show up in ModLauncherWPF.exe in XCom 2\Binaries\Win64\Launcher. Creating a XComMod file (blank or not) and renaming it after the mod is supposed to fix this, but all I get unlocked are Advent helmets.
I have Resistance and Reinforcement Pack installed and the following mods which may or may not conflict: ArmorStatCustomiser CapnbubsAccessoriesPack FreetheHood MECVoicePack Morearmorcolors PlayableAdvent NewHairmod Stormtrooper UniformsManager
Yes I have the DLC and rookie armor mod just makes all rookies start out with the DLC armor instead of Kevlar, I noticed this does add the extra random pieces with AllArmoroptions though so I will remove and give it a go.
*EDIT* - I tested this mod as a standalone and just do not see any extra customization options for arms, legs, torso etc for a new game start with Kevlar and Resistance armor loaded out. Perhaps I am not knowing how this mod functions but all testing was done thru the armory.
Amazon has several different versions of XCom 2 for sale, although most of them have no DLC and still require steam.
In any case, if the mod author for some reason removes their mod from the workshop, save games will no longer load. This is why many people go to nexusmods as an alternative, since it lets you download mods and install them without depending on steam.
Any plans to upload this with an .XComMod file included? As it is ("ArmorVariety.x2proj" and "PublishedFileId.ID") the mod doesn't appear in the launcher.
Hacking one together with Notepad++ allows the mod to be enabled in the launcher.
[Edit: With my own .XComMod and a cursory look all of the options appear to be present, not just the helmet options as others have said. I'm also using the Rookie Armor mod.]

Is that intentional?
And thanks for including a .XComMod file.

I'm a manual mod installer always have been and always will be, also I don't use NMM either.

Also, a reduced ArmorVariety_ModShaderCache.upk would be appreciated, see Amineri's PSA: IMPORTANT! Read this before deleting LocalShaderCache!.
