Please post any questions or comments you have regarding getting LW Rebalance to work.
-----------------
Please note that the most common mistake when installing is to not put the files in the correct directory. It is NOT supposed to go in your Documents/MyGames directory it should be somewhere in your program files directory. This is most commonly "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\" as most people are using steam. But if you are not using steam or are using a different OS it may be in a different location.
Make sure it is in your "XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW" directory as it's easy to miss that as well and just install into the "XCom-Enemy-Unknown" directory.
-----------------
Note that any bugs or issues are most often caused by mod conflicts and install problems. If you have a problem please upload a save file where the bug is occurring as that is the easiest way for us to figure out what is wrong and then fix it.
-----------------
If you have an error like: "7 popups saying unknown binary or something like that before the game starts" then you might "have copied the files to the wrong folders. Probably you miscreated some subfolders. Those messages are shown whenever the game finds additional .upk files in xew subfolders (i.e. when you make a backup of the original files before installing Long War)." and a solution is to "Delete absolutely everything and make sure you install everything right, follow closely the install instructions of this LW Rebalance mod, giving special attention to the folder's pathing."

Here is some information if you are trying to install on Linux:

hi, i was wondering if there is a way to change stats on soldiers in a config file or with console command? It seems to only work with regular long war. It's so hard to get a good starting rooster with decent stats, and i don't like the idea that the new soldiers later in the campain gets more stats. I feel like the veterans should not be overshadowed by the newbies:P
I recently installed LWR and at the start of every battle, everything runs slow like my FPS drops. However, once I reveal a pod and they scamper, the game usually reverts to normal speed. Sometimes it doesn't but I just have to reveal another pod to get the game to run normal.
Game runs fine with LW and vanilla. I have an 11th gen i9, 3080, 32 GB RAM, and SSD drive.
I have the same issue, the game seems to be stuck in slow motion from the start.
It's caused by LW Rebalance, but I don't have a solution. I have tried a fresh install, same issue. Vanilla game runs fine, LW does, LW Rebalance introduces this bug.
I experienced constant crash playing on Steam Deck and tried to resolve and the answer was using proton 7.03, which installs DirectX and NET Framework. Every other version of protons crashed (not always, but very frequently) upon loading tactical LWR saves.
If you know, So you know :)
+) Just found out new version enabled game speed and z hotkey while using gamepad. Thanks! And any possibility of adding barracks sorting mod??
So I'm having a really strange issue. Basically, my game has a timer mechanic called Blitzkrieg and there is nothing about this in long war wiki and rebalance wiki ?! This honestly makes the game extremely hard to play and the whole menu is all over the place for me. It works fine with long war installed only so I don't know what messed up. I think I'll try installing again after finishing LW once then.
Umm, Well I just double checked my save last time and there wasn't a single double wave option enabled. So this might be a bug. I think I should have saved it just in case but it's a bit too late now.
You can turn the second wave options on or off by following that link to the wiki and using the command console.
If you think you have no second wave options on and have double checked, I would recommend triple checking as many people use that option on and off and have no problems with it. It's quite likely you accidentally activated it.

Hello, I would like to add a comment about how I got LWR to run. OS: Linux Mint (Debian edition) LMDE 4 Debbie (64bit) XCOM: Steam version 1.0.1 RC6 (at ~/steam/steam/steamapps/common/Xcom-Enemy-Unknown/) Long War version: 1.00 (latest at the time of writing 14th of May 2021) LWR version: 1.33.02
Problem: installing LWR via the install_linux.bash functions but starting the intro mission hangs on the mission room animation.
Fix: Adjusting the install_linux2.bash script and running it (command: bash install_linux2.bash ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/)
Ajusting the script: the script as supplied, residing in "LW Rebalance v.1.33.02/Linux install", needs to be moved one level up, into "LW Rebalance v 1.33.02/". Then using your favorite tool convert the line endings from Windows (CR/LF) to Unix (LF). Afterwards run it with the correct path (see example at Fix above).
If the mods author were to read this, I would suggest that he changes the line endings in linux_install2.bash to LF to ease installation and maybe remove the spaces in the filenames (not mandatory but easier to navigate via CLI).
Notepad++ (free editor) can handle the task: Under Edit menu-item find EOL Conversion (one each for Windows, Unix, and Macintosh).
Edit: Looked at both bash files supplied with 1.41.02 and they already use Unix style LF (Line Feed character) rather than the Windows style LF/CR (Line Feed/Carriage Return). So, it seems, no edit is necessary.
I think someone else mentioned it already, the original install script for Linux (install_linux.bash) doesn't copy config files to …/xew/xcomgame/config. I couldn't start the first mission after using this script.
The second script (install_linux2.bash) seems to work better, but has been saved with DOS (or Windows) line breaks. On Linux, one can just use the dos2unix command to convert it, or use an editor that allows to specify the format. (It also doesn't check for ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/…, with "steamapps" all lowercase, but that's not really an issue since you can just run it with the directory as parameter).
So, installation went fine with the second script, I think, and I can start the first mission. Unfortunately, the game reproducibly crashes to desktop as soon as a weapon is fired (doesn't matter which side). This seems to be the only thing that triggers the crash, eg. throwing grenades works, and LW alone works, too. Any ideas what could cause this?
I understand you don't use Linux, many thanks for trying to support it anyway. Are older versions of the mod available somewhere? That could help to track down the issue.
