I really wanted to try this mod because I noticed some bugs on the maps as well. The problem is, when I install it following the instructions, then somehow Steam keeps resetting my original files including DefaultMaps.ini. What am I doing wrong? Anyone willing to help please? Thanks!
am i supposed to decompress all the UPK files in the file we downloaded into the install folder? From what it says i get the impresion we are supposed to decompress all the UPK files in the install folder of xcom, which i dont see what that does.
Well to be honest the instructions are obviously incomplete, I assume the patch upk files are intended to replace the ones in the CookedPCConsole folder, even though no instructions say to do so, but otherwise why would they exist.
Install instructions: -decompress all the upk files in your install folder <...>/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/XEW/XComGame/CookedPCConsole -create a backup of the DefaultMaps.ini found in <...>/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/XEW/XComGame/Config -replace it with the file DefaultMaps.ini found in this archive
That's pretty much a no brainer, but why does it say extract all the files in CookedPCConsole. When it only changes 102 of the 2971 upk files inside that folder. Why can't I just extract the those 102. Indeed why can't I just replace the existing files? Most seem to be full replacements, though I did spot these differences. The Mod has patch_alienbase1.upk patch_alienbase1.upk
While the vanilla is just patch_alienbase.upk
Call me fussy but I expect to be told, why I should extract 3000 upk files to install 102, especially when all but 2 appear to be direct replacements.
I don't mind doing the work, if it's actually required. However, I do expect to be told when and why it's required, before I will change a thing. Especially when those changes appear unrelated to the mods function.
If it wasn't for the discrepancy of the patch_alienbase files, I would just try this as a replacer and see if it works.
So please uprade the docs, with the one or two lines of info, that it should aready have.
Mod looks good and detailed and I want to try it in game, without unpacking anything compressed if I don't absolutely have to. I only have 768 GB of SSD space for games, my Skyrim mods alone take about half that space. So all my remaining SSD space is valuable, with Fallout 4 mods to add as well.

For future users of this mod, I hope this reply clears up some stuff:
+) The instruction is kind of confusing; what is meant is to extract the .upk files from the provided RAR file into the folder <...>/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/XEW/XComGame/CookedPCConsole. It will not replace any existing files, nor does it need to edit existing .upk files
+) If space is at a premium, you can go into DefaultMaps.ini and compare the changes with DefaultMaps.ini.original (that is, the backup); files appearing in the original but NOT appearing in the new .ini can be deleted. Or moved somewhere else, say an external hard disk, just in case.
Now, My Own Question:
Is it okay if I manually enable the maps enabled by the XCOM EW Map Pack mod?
(That mod and this one both replaces the DefaultMaps.ini file, so I use the DefaultMaps.ini file in this mod, and simply copy over the "enabled" maps in that mod's ini file)
I saw an unwalkable ufo rooftop and then I found this mod. I got stuck because I planned to flank there but I didn't know that it is bugged.
I was able to decompress the upks using UPK Decompressor, extract it with UPK Extractor, replaced some files with the mod provided, and then replace the .ini file, now what? How do I compress the .upk files again for the game to read?
Hi. Thank you for your efforts. I came across a note stating that you removed merc corpses and weapons from portent/deluge maps, but unlike other notes you didn't provide any reasons. It seems you also removed cocoon bodies. I would like to know what is your reason, and if there are other such changes I missed. If I don't want features removed can I remove files named like "patch_clean_..." and only use the map fixes?

This is a great work on developer bugs. Wish I found her earlier (
Can this be used for the final Long War 1.0 оr is it already fixed there?
