    Well, turns out I'm a little bit of a dumbass.  The local INT file within the steam folder is not where it needs to go.  Instead, replace the one that is in the game file located under user/mydocuments/mysavedgames/xcom/local/int/blahblahblah.

    Works fine.  I'm having fun so far, I usually start out on normal just to get a feel for the changes.  By the time I had carapace on, my guys had almost 100 hit rating.  I bumped it up to classic and restarted to make it more fair for the little grey bastards.

    Thanks for the hard work, hope the devs let you have some fun soon!

    @SixSigma

    Thanks for verifying that! =)

    I think that the INT file may indeed be the problem, it could have undergone changes in the last patch. For now, manual editing is the only way to get the ranks again.

    I hope you enjoy the mod. =)

    I also seem to have the mod working after the patch without an issue. Just got started so nothing important to report.

    One thing, the INT file doesn't seem to be working. Still showing the same boring ranks from vanilla. I'll go into the file and rename them myself to see if it works.

    Thanks for the mod!

    Thank you! I'm glad you like it.

    I wanted to make losing Soldiers also costly in the sense of your budget, and prevent players from easily getting an entire army of soldiers. That's why they cost 25 on easy/normal and 50 on classic/Impossible.

    If you personally would like to pay less, open the DefaultGameCore.mod with Editor/Notepad/Wordpad/Notepad++ or a similar program.
    Search for the String (Without the " "): "SOLDIER_COST_HARD=50" and "SOLDIER_COST_CLASSIC=50"
    Replace 50 with the cost you'd like to pay.
    Then patch your xcom exe with the modpatcher again. =)

    Odd, on which difficulty do you play the game, and how far into the game are you?

    That aside, using explosives too much will cost you Weapon Fragments, which (due to increased demand of Weapon Fragments) will slow down your tech development, and usually bites you once you start to get the better tech. So it's actually a double edged-grenade.

    Mod seems to be working fine for me with the new patch.

    Also, here's some feedback:

    My biggest problem with this mod in that the tactical game gets too easy too fast. The way I see it, the main reasons for it are the two item slots for medium/heavy armor, the high damage on explosives and the increased stat boost soldiers get on level ups. With these combined, a couple of reasonable high ranking soldiers and a few lower ranking soldiers with explosives can completely obliterate most enemies, without taking too much damage. Apart from this, this mod is pretty tight, good job!

    @Traikan

    Thanks! Unfortunately, it confirms my fears: The only accessable DefaultGameCore.ini is the one that's always been there, meaning: there is no way to actually "mod" the DefaultGameCore.ini and replace the vanilla one anymore with the new patch.

    I'll have to check out if one of the merger programs can work as replacement installer and "blindly" change the values necessary, instead of entirely replacing the file.

    If you're looking for the right moment to sigh and say: "Gods be good, devs and their ignorance of the modding community" - this is it.

    I'll see what I can do.

    Just wanted to say that I followed your instructions with a functional vanilla XCOM, and after installing Terror From Space XCOM now crashes on launch. Restoring the backup .exe fixed the problem, so it looks like the latest patch broke the mod.

    Here's the DefaultGameCore.ini file you requested: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2816096/DefaultGameCore.ini

    Hope that helps!

    @BizarreReverend

    Did you simply patch XCOM and thus override everything, then replaced it with the modded file and started it? The problem with patching XCOM is that is *always* messes everything up.

    Can you first try if you can do the following?
    1. Replace all modded files with the backup originals.
    2. Run vanilla XCOM in steam, ensure it's patched.
    3. Go to library, right-click on XCOM, properties, select the local files tab, and use "verify integrity of game cache"
    4. Start XCOM after the game cache was verified, make sure it runs in vanilla.
    5. Mod XCOM
    6. Run it in offline mode

    You can also check point 3&4 for further information here:

    If that doesn't work, and it truly is a problem with the patch and not the patching, can you do me a favor and send me the DefaultGameCore.ini from the \XComGame\Config folder?

    I'm back in my dormitory, where I have to use university net, which blocks me from services such as patch-loaders and steam.

    I need to see if and what they changed, and whether they changed the base DefaultGameCore.ini as reference too, or only the internal one in the .exe file.

    I'm unfortunately flying blind on this one.
