You have to enable direct ini editing: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/How_to_DIY_common_mod_solutions_-_XCOM:EU_2012#How_to_enable_direct_INI_editing Doesn't needed for Linux version, but still needed for Windows.

Amphibious, PatcherGUI under Windows automatically backups and restores altered files in case of error. He might have some other mod(s) installed, which is interfering with yours.

JohnMsh, I advise you to move XCOM out of program files tree. Here's the explanation why: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Installing_Games_on_Windows_Vista%2B

I did have long war, but I uninstalled it using the program given, and reinstalled the XEW folder with a backup and checked the rest with steam, Maybe long war corrupted some files somewhere , anyways I'm doing a full delete and erase and doing a fresh install. Gotta wait 4 hours but ill tell you guys if it works.

I just can't get anything to work for the life of me. I disable hash checks, I disable phone home, I put steam outside of program files. The game does not change .. I add the files from Last Hope, to my config and local In the XEW/Xcomegame folder ,they do not change anything in the game. For example , when i change the damage of weapons in the "Ini" files such as defaultgamecore, or when adding Last Hope's version of DefaultGameCore in localization and config , it does not change anything in the game. Everything is still vanilla, The only effects I get from mod changes are from the PatcherGUI, thats the only thing that seems work for me.

I would like to help but I don't have a windows on any of my computers. Basically you have to take defaultgamecore.ini and defaultgamedata.ini and overwrite vanilla files on your system from which game loads it data - perhaps there is more than 1 location (i don't know exactly where). put localization files xcomgame and xcomstrategygame.int into localiaztion folder on your system where vanilla files are. Finally use Patcher GUI to apply files from patches folder to your upk files. First you have to decompress your upks of course.

Take a look here if you run into problems: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Basic_Guide_to_installing_mods

When patching using UPK patcher , I get a error " Error patching UPK" and the patcher creates a error log

What version of the game u have and when applying which patch does it occur?

p.s. Sorry my bad, there was a mistake in LastHope.txt before_hex function I left out a part at the end of the code when copy/pasting it so naturally after_hex was too big to fit the scope. again i apologize, try the newly uploaded file it should be alright.

Check the other files in the patch just in case, because i think another one of them did that too, not sure

Other files are ok. Selection.txt is newly added and recently tested while meld.txt is wghost8's originally with timer value altered a bit so they are fine.

What version of the game you have? And is it the latest patch? ... basically it's saying that the chunk of data it's searching for isn't present in your upk.

Did you try to install it on eu or files? I based it on ew code. Also did you keep a backup of the upk files since first time command 4 - before_hex was succesful as far I see, it stopped at command 5 -after hex since the code was larger. Perhaps something was written there so now it can't find an original code. try again on original upk.

edit- i uploaded the new variant of lasthope.txt which doesn't use the after_before hex commands in first line insted it replaces entire object with modded code so this should work no matter if your code in that part is already altered.

What I don't get about X-COM is, if this is the last hope why is the funding so pathetic?  And why  do the troops seem to be coming right out of boot camp instead of from elite special forces?

It's all relative. Imagine a few more zeros. No one is selling an alien corpse for 5 bucks or a fighter jet for 100.

True, everything is relative. Also it doesn't say currency but only that you have credits. Btw this mod makes weapons and other small items way cheaper so it fixes logical inconsistency of price ratios for cewrtain item, tech and facilites. That's the realism part.

From a gameplay standpoitn it would be dull to throw large amounts of creds and high level soldiers at you from the start. That would take the challenge away and the enjoyment in gradual improvement of your troops and assests.
