Take note: when you come back from a mission, don't give anyone a promotion. This mod only works in the barracks. Just click "continue", then go to the barracks and promote everyone from there.
Just tried this mod and it doesn't seem to be working. I've installed a bunch of other mods via UPK Patcher and I'm pointing to the XEW directory. But, when I complete the first mission of a new game, the classes are already assigned and I don't see any buttons to change the assigned class.
Never mind. I figured it out, but I'll leave question here if anybody else has the same "issue". When coming back from a mission, if you click on the After Action Report screen, the buttons don't show up to change the class of the soldier. If you don't select a class and then go in through the Barracks and View Soldiers option, then the arrows show up to allow you to select the class you want.
Hey, no idea if you still work on this, but I got a fun bug. I retrained a heavy into an assault, but he still carried around a rocket launcher. It was fine in missions, as the ability just said that the soldier doesn't have the training to fire it. However, going to the loadout for the soldier crashes the game. Update: relaunched the game, going to the loadout a second time did not crash, interesting. However, I can't get rid of the Rocket launcher. Oh well, it's not like it alters the game mechanically (the soldier also still carries a pistol)
Just noticed that the game increases the soldiers offensive/aim stat by the class it initially selects. So, if it selects Heavy, then aim is increased to 67 from 65. Changing to another class does not alter this stat to match the new class, ie., to 70 if you make him a Support. I suppose this just is what it is, due to the game coding, right? Still very useful but I'd feel a little guilty randomly drawing a Sniper and then making him a heavy and getting a nice 10 aim bonus instead of the 2 he's supposed to get.
I had been having trouble getting rid of the rocket launcher graphic when I changed the class from an initially assigned Heavy. I found the solution earlier in the comments, but I'll reiterate here in case someone else is having trouble. What worked for me is to clear the entire squad when selecting soldiers for a mission and then click "Make Items Available". That seems to clear up the extraneous graphics from other classes.

Thanks for a useful mod.
