I like this because when playing with training roulette and not created equal sometimes a good ability tree can save a soldier from being immediately dismissed for having bad stats. S/he might not be the best soldier, but they may be viable and interesting, and depending on how tight your funds are, you may decide to keep and train them up. Decisions are a good thing.
I think you have gotten two different file areas confused.
There is where the game itself is installed, which is by default "C:\Program Files\Steam..." (aka "the Steam folder"), and then there is where the game saves it's session files (aka "save files"), which is under "My Documents\My Games". In general, if you are trying to install a mod, then you are only interested in the "Steam" game folder.
(If you are trying to "cleanup" or remove a mod then you might get into the "saves" folder.)
Install instructions normally only need to be able to find the "XCom-Enemy-Unknown" (for EU) or "XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW" (for EW) "Steam" folder. The installer can then find it's way among the other folders as required on it's own. Partly this is because if you followed the recommendations in the wiki article "Basic Guide to installing mods", you will have moved your Steam folder out of "C:\Program Files" into it's own folder such as "C:\Games" as described in the referenced "Installing games on Windows Vista+" article. (I can't stress enough how important this step is.)
Thank you for responding. not sure what I was doing but I ended up deleting then reinstalling everything. Then followed the links you mentioned and now it seems to be working.
Thank you again. Off to shoot some sectoids in a new game since my save games with random skills were very very bad.
Hello there. As a casual gamer and not a programmer I wonder if anyone could help me with adding this to my game.
As far as I can see the game is in documents/mygames
the chain listed in the instructions SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW seems to be SteamSteamApps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW but there are loads of folders still under the XEW one.
I get an error Incorrect path to directory?
Could someone spare a few minutes to help out an old bloke please
Actually I am right now. Sadly my hard drive died and took all my notes with it... I suppose this is how people learn the hard way to keep better documentation. But I'm sure I can figure out what I was doing, or at least reinvent it.

yes it is compatible
I keep getting a
Error
Error Patching UPK!
then in UPK it says
Can't find specified data!
Execution stopped at #5 command named [BEFORE_HEX]
Or it might be if you're using Long War, the mods are fundamentally incompatible due to how they split the perk trees.
Oh well D=
So please say you are working on it?
