Still works as of 4.0 beta. Had an issue with the last Teladi start (the one where you start in the gunboat) that after doing the main mission my research menu was empty. Turns out for some reason the researchable items were not included. Savegame editing of the "researchables" entities worked (search for the exact word and you'll find it). You can get the correct list of entities from a vanilla gamestart before getting PHQ.
I think version 1.6 killed something in the Argon start. I don't get the station building modules--so I can not build any ships. Not sure about the other things as a lot of modules do show up...just not the ones that you build ships with...With 1.5 everything showed up nicely. But not with the new version 1.6. Even tried a new start no joy there.
icew0lfnz below posted a fix for the phq not spawning, just open X4Ep1_Mentor_Subscription.xml with npp and change the 3 instances of x4ep1_gamestart_ARG_CIT to x4ep1_gamestart_cas_5100_AC
The alternate starts are not displayed in game. The mod is installed in the X4 Root directory and I can see it installed in the main menu under extensions.

The "x4ep1_gamestart_ARG_CIT" needs to be changed to "x4ep1_gamestart_cas_5100_AC" for the PHQ to spawn.
