About this mod

Provides recipes for main mod components instead of having to rely on stumbling across RNG missions. With this mod, it's possible to craft T2 using T1, and T3 using T2. The cost is enough to be a bit grindy, but also allows for steady progress. An alternate version (wT1) permits crafting of T1.

LEAVING THIS UP, BUT I HAVEN"T BEEN PLAYING MOD'D OR REALLY LOOKING AT THIS FOR QUITE SOME TIME.  ALSO, FEEL FREE TO BORROW WHAT I WROTE IF YOU FEEL LIKE THE IDEA IS SOMETHING YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH.  OBVIOUSLY, PROVIDE CREDIT IF YOUR CONSCIENCE TELLS YOU TO! =)

I ALSO FEEL THAT EGOSOFT HAS DONE QUITE A BIT TO ADDRESS THE ORIGINAL REASON I CREATED THIS MOD, AND I RECOMMEND CONSIDERING VENTURES IF YOU WANT HIGHER TIER SHIP MODS WHILE RUNNING A VANILLA APPROACH.  MISSIONS ALSO PROVIDE HIGHER TIERS MORE OFTEN THAN THEY USED TO.

Description:

I was annoyed at how rare the higher tier mod components seemed to be, and that they only appeared to be gained through missions.  I checked into the scripts and it appears that any given mission only has a 2% chance of being a mod component reward.  Of that, only 6% are T2 (1 in ~833) and 4% are T3 (1 in 1250) [THIS IS NO LONGER TRUE - HIGHER TIERS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED THOUGH STILL UNCOMMON TO RARE].

I added crafting recipes to each of the T2 and T3 mod parts that require 3 of the lower tier plus some extra wares.  The recipes could be called somewhat costly, but I feel like it balances out the intended rarity with the ability to slowly grind progress instead of forever relying on the RNG hunt game.

An optional version that also provides T1 recipes is available (wT1).  It hasn't been tested beyond a very brief check, but should be functional (no debug log errors for me and the recipes show up in crafting UI).  Although the T1 recipes don't completely get rid of the need to grind some ship kills/drops, they do provide an alternate path to get a particular mod.

The recipes will automatically* appear in the crafting table UI, like other crafting recipes.

*NOTE: due to how the crafting UI is designed, it will hide these recipes if you ONLY have the dropped mod components.  To make this less tedious, each recipe has been designed to require Interface Units.  A slightly more detailed explanation can be found in the bug report Recipes don't show up in crafting UI.  Basically, if you're not seeing the recipes, get an Interface Unit (or one of the others) and check again.

There are at least a couple other mods out there that provide easier access to higher tier mod components for those that are looking for that, but don't like my approach:
