As per request, I've spent a couple hours writing a guide on how to replace the music files yourself. It's not too complicated of a process if you have at least a rudimentary understanding of programming and can follow instructions. The guide isn't pretty, but it has pictures and I tried to write as much detail as I could. If I missed something let me know.
Some users have reported installing the mod in the "\X4 Foundations\extensions" crashing their game. If this is the case you can try installing the mod in "C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Egosoft\X4\extensions".
I'd love to use the music mod. Unfortunately using the mod creates the "modified" tag and therefore blocks me out of getting any achievements... that's to bad. The music would be a great addition. But thanks for your effort! I guess I have to cope up with what Egosoft delivers until I get most of the achievements
As a matter of fact I got three achievements since using this mod. I dunno if there's some sort of detection affecting only some mods or something, but this one didn't block anything so far.
That's how it used to be, no? But I just got Bug Fixed and Capital Punishment and... err... another one while listening to the lovely sounds of HotDS :) Make a separate save file and test it with something easy/semi quick like Capital Punishment if you don't have it already.
what that mean not correctly? it not launching at all?(mine work perfect) try deleting the mod and reinstall it, maybe you've done something wrong in the installation. maybe you have another mod. that conflict with it, but as the only music mod released from now is ziev mods and the two are compatible...
I can see the process in the taskmanager, but the game doesn't pop up. When i delete the mod the game starts as you would expect. I have tried to install it a couple times now.
I don't have the GOG version so I can't confirm myself, but did this really fix the issue for you? If you go to the extensions menu from the main menu does it list the mods you have installed?
I have the steam version and can confirm that that fixes the issue. With extensions-folder in X4 Root and this mod installed the game dosen't start. Delete this mod, game starts. Extensions-folder in My Documents\Egosoft\X4\####\ and this mod installed, game starts. Also all installed mods are displayed normaly in the mainmenu. Other modauthors have also referred to this workaround
That is incredibly strange. I would expect the problem to occur with everyone. My game, for example, works just fine with the extensions folder in the root X4 Foundations folder. That's where you installed mods in X Rebirth so I assumed it would be the same for X4 Foundations. I'm experiencing no problems with mod installations.
So the mod is working correctly in your game now Addi24? You can hear the music tracks playing correctly? If this is the case I may have to update my instructions to include this workaround. It's just really weird that some installations are working just fine with the instructions I provided and some need the extensions folder to be placed in the my documents location.
I'll try to write up a short guide on how to modify the music files yourself, it'll just take me a little bit of time. It looks like some others have been requesting the same information and I'd be happy to document the process I used.
I'm by no means an expert, but I'll do my best! I'll make a post when the guide is ready.
ok bro I figured out how to edit it myself, and now have stars wars music instead yay!!
also I did add one music to suspense (I understand you can add endless music and that awesome)
if you want me to send you the edited files so you can post them here so other people would be able to enjoy it, or I could add them myself on nexus with your permission. anyway thanks with your mod I managed to understand how to edit/what to edit and I really thanks you for the xml you made and the time you passed finding the right folder. kudo to you!
I just finished writing up a guide that's sticked at the top if you want to take a look. Also, for Star Wars music that's really cool you added it to your game but I don't think I want to post it. You can post it if you want, but there's a chance it might get taken down by Nexus if you don't have permissions to use the music. I'd rather not take that chance myself. =)
well is x3 albion prelude star wars soundtrack... so i will just send the files to the author so he can post them, or try get their permission(cause these are modified star wars music...). and thanks for the guide and the mod (cause without your mod I would have had more trouble to learn xD) also yeah the mod file (sound_library.xml wasn't changed, but they said in the 1.20 patch note that they fixed something with one of the suspense sound: • Fixed suspense music still playing even if all nearby enemies have been destroyed.
by the way your guide is awesome, man that a lot of work you've done, i though you will just send a message here but you did a complete guide! you should post it on x4 foundation egosoft modding forum, and workshop such a great work.
also in the guide there maybe should be written that the audio format need to be vorbis, stereo, 160kbp/s, 48,000 hz. cause I tried mine who were stereo, 320kbp/s, 44100 hz and the game couldn't play them and had to convert them (and then worked fine)
also like your hidden message (egosoftgetnotenoughcredit, Ilikedxrebirth) hehe I liked X rebirth too!
I did check the patch notes for 1.20 when Egosoft pushed the update. I'm not sure where they made their changes but it was not to the sound_library.xml file. I'm assuming it's in a .lua file that handles triggers for when the suspense music plays. Regardless, I've tested my audio mods successfully before and after the patch in my own game.
Thank you for putting this together, it's great idea! Unfortunately I've got this odd bug where instead of playing the new tracks, it just plays silence. Could it be something to do with the update that just dropped? I know I put the files in the right folder, the other mods in there work.
I personally didn't experience any problems after the update and I tested it in my game successfully. I also compared the sound_library.xml file that I made adjustments to and both the 1.10 and 1.20 versions are identical, so the update didn't make changes to that file.
I'm not entirely sure what could be causing your issue.
I'll poke around and see if I can figure it out. I'm one of those people who had to put their mods in Documents/egosoft/x4/3776208/extensions to get them to work

Is this not downloading properly? I don't hear any difference to the music in game. :-(
But thanks for your effort!

Take the extensions-folder and drop in in My Documents\Egosoft\X4\####\ thats where the saves should be.
thanks for the info on the workaround.

(or if you have a link where it explain how to edit those files .cat/.dat or where you learned to mod it would be grateful.

but yeah a guide would be welcomed
