Heya guys. I decided to update my mods for 1.21. It will take a few days because I still don't have much time to work on it. I apologize for the wait, but I will do the update, no need to worry anymore. For Darker Nights, I plan on trying some ideas I had a few months ago but never had time to try out in order to fix the amount of bugs existing. My GF did a full walkthrough a while ago and thanks to her I was able to see all the existing issues and the exact context in which it happened. So, expect the update by the end of next week. Maybe earlier, maybe not. I can't give you an exact date yet. In any case, thanks for your support !
Nice! Thank you and please don't take this the wrong way but i haven't played the game in a long time and have a question what is the benefit to this mod compared to atmospheric nights, that many people have recommended in the last time?
Thanks again for your work i really enjoyed your mod playing trough the game last year.
About Atmospheric Nights, like I said in a previous comments, I haven't really tried to mod myself but from the look of it, it's basically a rip-off of this one with some changes made to the .env file. Maybe there's more change, idk, but I don't really think so since the xml file and most of my scripts changes have been left untouched.
just had a quick look. All the scripts from atmospheric nights are exactly identical to this mod, so the only difference is the used env in the blob0.bundle. That means ones darker nights is updated, the people who prefer atmospheric nights can just use this mod and copy over the blob0.bundle from atmospheric nights.

All conflicts were resolved automatically or you had to manually change things? If second, then you merged them wrong) Merged r4player.ws line 15677, look there, or post the file here.
Thanks a lot for this Mikanoshi!! After merging with XTFinishers ("r4game.rs" and "r4player.ws" ), I really thought it wasn't gonna work, since I had to manually fix a couple of unsolved scripts on "r4game.ws" and 3 conflicts on "r4player.ws"... Literally HUNDREDS of conflicts were automatically resolved on both files (with Script Merger), but that's partially my fault, since I have merged several other mods and incorporated into those two r4 files inside the XTFinishers mod...
Working wonders, I'm using a 90 value for darkness on all regions, since a value of 100 will leave Geralt in almost pitch black dark
The only "bug" (if you can call that) I encountered is in the main menu. The mod name is blacked out, here's the screenshot:
http://i.imgur.com/nELzlRt.jpg
Probably my fault, since I renamed the mod (for personal taste), from "modDnNew" to "modDarkerNights", but I'm not sure... If you could help me out with that, I'd appreciate it If not, no big deal. The mod is working fine without it...
Nah, I'm good. Installing Custom Localization Fix would mean resolving god-knows-how many more script conflicts... Since I've already found satisfactory values-presets for the nights, I wonder if I could remove the menu altogether, and keep my presets, since I won't mess with them anymore.
@rotchild You can remove \bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\dn_menu.xml, current mod settings are stored in C:\Users\USERNAME\ Documents\The Witcher 3\user.settings under the [DNMenu] section.
Nice hear it, i hope so, if u can also way be compatible over new updates with new expansion, now game have 1.22 , We all hoping boss give some free days (DreamS), until update dark nighters we be patient here.
@ Mikanoshi: Update... If I delete dn_menu.xml, the mod stops working for whatever reason. No problem, I'll just leave it as it is, it's not big deal
@ yvesri: If you download Mikanoshi's version (he posted a mega.nz link a few posts above), and install it properly, you'll see it works in Toussant (Blood & Wine, version 1.22). Give it a try.
Try ed your version and not one conflict and I'm running 55 mods then i was wow this probably is a rip off of darker nights XML bin file was not even renamed still DN. BUT thanks works perfect.SHAME on atmospheric nights mod author.
Oh wow some how I missed that about atmospheric nights. I endorsed this one. Downloaded the manual file above with tonemapping. Thank you for that. Works good, as expected. I will make sure to update my reshade "Wild Hunt Re-Imagined" desc page since I was recommend Atmospheric Nights with my preset. I will make sure to link back to here. As I mod author and user I truly believe in credit due where its due. Also, no issues with using script merger.
@Mikanoshi I did as you said and deleted dn_menu.xml leaving just the [DNMenu] section under user.settings but like the other dude said, it just disables to mod doing that (or atleast the mod has no effect whatsoever). Any idea what could be wrong? Can't say how much I appreciate the hard work, your mod is a huge improvement on vanilla.
Yay finally an update! Works like a charm. Thank you very much Mikanoshi. Aaaah I missed the dark nights, in Toussaint the nights are a little bit better balanced and don`t look completely like daytime, but everywhere else the ahem "nights" look like twelve o'clock high noon, dinner will be served soon, but with a little blueish tint
The horizon is OK and no bugs occur, when you set the custom night hours correct like in this video: https://youtu.be/4aPZb4LEuyI
No horizon problems when the custom night begin is set between 19-21 o`clock with 1 or 2 hours dusk (US time 7 - 9pm) and morning at 4-6 o`clock (4 - 6am) with 1 or 2 hours dusk.
Perfect mod! Toussaint Nights darker:
Perfect dawn without any problems (no black horizon with lightrays) when you set the dawn hours correct to 5-6am with one hour dawn:
Slowly the shadows of the night disappear realistic in the far away distance, when looking over the country from an elevated point:
Hey Mikanoshi, With your version there's a menu option to change darkness levels for "the Spiral". During my playthrough I've never encountered an area with that name, nor can I find anything on it through Google. What is this place?
Dunno, I'd never seen the other versions of this mod as I've just started modding. Odd that such a location is in the menu when it doesn't seem to exist.
@Mikanoshi Thanks for updating this mod. It works, however I have with bright (almost white) clouds during night with it :/ I'm using Adaptive Reshade but even without it I'm encountering that.
I've been trying to get either Atmospheric nights or Darker nights to work (compilation errors ). So, in searching out the problem, I've gone through the scripts of both mods. Shaedhen's comment lines are all through atmospheric nights which tells me that the Atmospheric Nights mod is a complete ripoff of this mod.
@Miezekatze666 Roll back Your Scripts to 1.30 version and it will work : http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1971/? All is working, exept bright light in the horizon, during day in Kaer Morhen. Is it possible to solve it?
> I've got it working with patch 1.31 Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Level of ridiculousness is raising every day on nexus. Scripts are absolutely identical to my version for 1.30, only "// Shaedhen - Darker Nights" changed to "// Shaedhen - Atmospheric Nights" (only in one place! to make it more ridiculous). What the actual f...
It is your version I used, it was just getting compiling errors with 1.31 worked fine with 1.30. Sorry if you thought I was taking credit for your work. That wasn't my intention, I was just trying to help it along with people stating they were still getting these errors. The credit's all yours, my friend and the mod author's, completely. I didn't know the problems had already been ironed out.
How could it fix compilation errors if scripts are absolutely the same as in my file here: https://mega.nz/#!N8lUjRJD!CDKxRfKOUhpEN9yO-GneNocY3KmnMIfNfY3E5aOR_p4
There is also a change in r4Player.ws in 1.31 that is not in both our files, so they both are not based on 1.31
It appears the problem isn't with your scripts, it's with the actual 'ingameMenu.ws' document itself. The game won't read it correctly with patch 1.31. The same document for Atmospheric Nights which has obviously been stolen from this mod, doesn't appear to carry the problem with the document. So transferring your scripts to that one appears to solve the problem. I don't know why it does this or what the cause of it is but this sort of thing doesn't surprise me with W3.
Thanks very much, my friend, I appreciate all your time and effort you have put into getting this mod working. I've downloaded both versions and I'll give them a try later on, just got a few rl stuff to contend with before I can relax with the Witcher.
Thanks for that update! Quick question, is there supposed to be a menu to change the settings? Can't seem to find that..
Edit: noticed a bug when looking for the menu. If I go to the mods section of the options screen, the mod seems to be disabled. Night goes from dark to bright instantly.
Error [content0]game\gui\commonmainmenubase.ws(73): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType' Error [content0]game\gui\main_menu\maincreditsmenu.ws(397): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType'

Getting the same bug as Satrhan, the mod is disabled when going to the mods menu. Can't get it working again.
Update: Found a work around, if the mod suddenly stops working (usually after loading a save) go into options, gamma settings, change it either +1/-1 value, exit out of the options and back to game. The mod should be working again.
I made a manual merge of the ingamemenu.ws file based on the original W3 file, and added in all the mod related bits from Miezekatze666's version (also merged in the file from Enhanced Edition mod, but seemed to be no conflicts there). Problem was that his file was based on what seems to be a different version of the game. For instance, my original file had no reference to a 'NorthAmericanVersion', but his has. Seems to work now, haven't noticed it crashing yet even though I've been playing with the settings for a bit. Game finally looks right again Also, Enhanced Edition has moved night vision from the Cat potion to a toggle, with this mod that actually feels useful now.
Hey Mikanoshi, so I've been trying to use your update of this mod for a while now. Problem is, it just won't work properly with "Friendly Hud." I believe I merged the files properly and I'm not getting any script errors. However, the problem still persists.
The issue I'm having is that "darker nights" would work upon first starting the game, but the moment I meditate or a day passes within the game, the nights are bright again. If I go into the mod menu and go back to the game, it's back to dark. I don't know what I'm doing wrong here... I have about 40 mods running currently, but this only happens when I have "friendly hud" in the mod folder.
I'm currently running patch 1.22 from GOG if that makes any difference.
Hey there, I hope someone can help out because this is painful; everything's working fine, no conflicts or anything, but there's this thing where the camera angle changes the brightness of the surroundings while outside. I think it doesn't happen indoors like in caves and such, but like when I look up it's as dark as it should be, but when looking down it gets bright as if the mod wasn't installed. I tried deleting some other mods that I thought might be causing it but even when the only mod left is DN it still happens... Can anyone tell me a solution for this I beg of thee :(

Hello, I have the same issue as DemonFist420. I've installed only darker night and custom localisation fix. No other mods. GOG GOTY 1.31 version. edit: I managed to make it work using this https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1964/?tab=description, thanks to Mikanoshi who told to do this above in the earlier posts.
Hi there! I can't seem to get the Darker Nights menu to show up in-game under the Mod menu. I have version 1.31 non-GOTY and I'm 1000% I installed this mod correctly, here are the steps I took:
1) I put modDnNEW in my (Drive):\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\Mods folder
2) I removed the "bin" folder from the modDnNEW folder and extracted the "dn_menu.xml" file directly into: (Drive):\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc
3) I ran Witcher 3 Script Merger and resolved all conflicts:
4) Game runs fine, no errors, but I cannot find the Darker Nights menu in-game where I think it's supposed to be, which is under the Mod menu.
If anyone wouldn't mind lending some advice or a solution for this problem I'd greatly appreciate it, I would love to get this mod up and running!
Hello, since Darker Nights - Next Gen - Classic (which is a port of this mod to Next Gen) is locked for comments, I try to ask my question here. Maybe I oversee something, but in the regional settings there is no option for Velen. Does anyone know which settings Velen uses?
On the Next-Gen version I Am getting the "dark sun" bug where the sun is there but it's not producing any light so it's dark even in the middle of the day. Happens to me when i mess to much with settings but also after one quest so far, Ladies of the Wood, after they tell me about Ciri and how she escaped when it switched back to Geralt and them it's like 6-7 pm and the sun is there but it's f*#@ing dark. I have the darkness start hour at 19-20 and hours before full darkness is 2(it's global setting and mostly deffault). Darkness intensity is 90, but even when switching to 70-80 values the issue persists, the one way to avoid it was to turn it down to 0 and back to 90 after i finished the quest.
What is the issue? Did i not install something properly?(i followed the steps for manual install) or is it just like that when switching between Ciri-Geralt? It's really annoying and makes me question if this mod is worth if it;s gonna ruin some evenings/mornings for me although ngl i love the fact it's actually dark and torch has any use:)
I didn't bother screenshotting because the issue is rather clearly explained. Imagine the sun being dimm behind the clouds but there is no clouds, you clearly see the sun and it's just not producing any light, like it's evening behind the horizon and at any hour in the day i meditate to it will always be night. I don't remember but i think the moon also produces no light so issue must be somewhere with the light source from the sky.
I just spent a few hours sort of cleaning up this mod so that it plays nicer with other mods and getting the menu to work nicely. If you having issues with the mod this version might help:
Script errors AFTER merging with ScriptMerger such as: Error [content0]game\gui\commonmainmenubase.ws(73): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType'
In game menu missing/doesn't look right
Here's the info about the changes I made:
I noticed that just running the script merger would result in errors when trying to launch the game. A careful review of all conflicts could allow you to merge without issues because the problem was caused by the Darker Nights files being older and missing some needed code. The script merger doesn't realize this and auto-solves the "problem" by removing needed code to match the outdated Darker Nights files with the user none the wiser. I updated the r4Game.ws, r4Player.ws, meditationWaiting.ws, and ingameMenu.ws files so that Darker Nights should merge smoothly without the need to manually check each conflict. The original versions of these files were renamed to ws.old should you need them.
I also updated the dn_menu.xml to localization strings which are now included in the content folder. The menu should appear in the in game mods menu with no issues. You can also use it with something like the Community Patch - Menu Strings and edit the dn_menu.xml file to move it into one of the sub-menus provided by Community Patch - Menu Strings
I made no changes to Darker Nights' functionality or code. This is merely intended to make Darker Nights more convenient to use with other mods.
thanks a lot buddy, really appreciate you sharing your work.. your many hours of work will, as a result, save *me* many hours of work. much appreciated
Thanks a lot, thumbsup! This gets you a big kudos. Your edited DN version works with according CP files. Could be seen as the default DN modfile updated, as i guess it works also without CP free of issues.
Somebody should sticky your post to the top position.
is there a way to remove the environment effect/change during cutscene? when you exit a cutscene (i.e. talking to a merchant), about 2-3 seconds after, the screen jumps back to a darker shade.. almost like the effects are disabled during cutscene and then re-enabled after leaving the scene. its sort of annoying. i remember reading about this somewhere and could prob fix it myself, but im not sure how its being implemented. I tried to make a new mod with environment\definitions\cutscenes_definition\cutscen_definition_global.env and environment\definitions\cutscenes_definition\cutscen_definition_kaer_morhen.env that has default values for envParams and giving it a higher priority than DarkerNights mod, but this doesnt seem to help anything. Any ideas?
OMG @Aldarana you are such a great human thank you soo much your GOTY Darker Nights Mod works perfect it should be in the files section of this page @shaedhen you got to add it please so everyone can find it. Thank you both for the great mod.
Thank you very much, Aldarana! I was looking for a way of using this mod but with no success. Your version worked even with Enhanced Edition mod, after merging. I didn't even need to manually solve anything.
Damn, it works now, kinda. After I load a save its nice and dark, but the moment I meditate the mod is no longer working. Reloading a save fixes it, but its still gonna break after meditating...
edit: Actually, after downloading this version of darker nights (the one WITH friendly meditation) https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/3151 my game works just fine, only thing that threw me off was its been turned off by default, dunno why. Just go in game to options > mods > darker nights, and set things there. Hope it will help someone. Ah, also, delete modfriendly_meditation in mods folder if you came across any errors during startup.
I merged everything with 0 conflicts doing it and still got this
Error [moddnnew]game\gui\main_menu\ingamemenu.ws(305): Could not find function 'RefreshMainMenuAfterContentLoaded'Warning [modsharedimports]engine\environment.ws(30): Global native function 'EnableDebugOverlayFilter' was not exported from C++ code.Warning [modsharedimports]engine\environment.ws(32): Global native function 'EnableDebugPostProcess' was not exported from C++ code.Warning [content0]engine\showflags.ws(11): Global native function 'DebugSetEShowFlag' was not exported from C++ code.
Just downloaded and installed. Can confirm that the version by Aldarana works, while the previous version by Mikanoshi caused scripting errors. Endorsed!
nope reverted to 1.32 gog my 3060TI can't handle dx12 max settings w/ RT on the fps goes down from 60 to 30 or less depending on the area, i already compared v1.32 to 4.00 in my eyes a modded 1.32 is not that far in terms of quality but 1.32 is still superior in performance even if you modded the texture to 4k and modded max settings i have consistent 60fps so long live GOTY version hehe.
It looks like there are too many menu entries in the mod menu. I am unable to select the last two options since only 10 strings can show at a time. Any suggestion? If I am missing this explanation somewhere I apologize
hey guys, anyone knows how to make the rain 'darker' when using this mod ? the rain stays bright during the night so it looks like it's raining milk ... I found a mod for the water which works very well but couldn't get anything for the rain, any idea would be much appreciated ! thanks a lot
For anybody getting the below errors with this mod:
Error [content0]game\gui\commonmainmenubase.ws(73): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType' Error [content0]game\gui\main_menu\maincreditsmenu.ws(397): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType'
Fix: 1. Download Vanilla 1.32 scripts from (Classic Edition) Community Patch- Base 2. Extract files: commonMainMenuBase.ws & mainCreditsMenu.ws 3. Copy commonMainMenuBase.ws into folder: Witcher3\Mods\modDnNew\content\scripts\game\gui 4. Copy mainCreditsMenu.ws into folder: Witcher3\Mods\modDnNew\content\scripts\game\gui\main_menu
I am running 1.32 Classic, and this got the mod working for me.

Thanks A LOT again Mikanoshi!!
MODS menu should be there, you need to install the latest Custom Localization Fix I guess.
Thanks again mate!!
You can remove \bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc\dn_menu.xml, current mod settings are stored in C:\Users\USERNAME\ Documents\The Witcher 3\user.settings under the [DNMenu] section.
@ yvesri: If you download Mikanoshi's version (he posted a mega.nz link a few posts above), and install it properly, you'll see it works in Toussant (Blood & Wine, version 1.22). Give it a try.
Daft question, how well does this currently play alongside Shaedhen's Weather Enhanced mod?
Are they any issues that your aware of?
Cheers mate.

I like the tone mapped version it blends the night time colours more naturally and adds more to immersion.
I have taken down my link with it not being needed. Well done, my friend, on a brilliant job, getting this mod working better than it did originally.

EDIT: nvm i made it work there's a hidden menu in the mod options. smh
I have script merged darker nights with other mods, so i would like to avoid to do it again

edit: I managed to make it work using this https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1964/?tab=description, thanks to Mikanoshi who told to do this above in the earlier posts.
Maybe I oversee something, but in the regional settings there is no option for Velen. Does anyone know which settings Velen uses?
I'm using the next gen version of this and I can't get the menu to show up in game and the nights aren't dark. No errors so I don't know what's wrong.
I don't remember but i think the moon also produces no light so issue must be somewhere with the light source from the sky.
but other issues remain unsolved. and a fix for the ugly bright white clouds at night which Atexor mentioned above is needed too
Edit: Putting this mod in top priority fixed it for me!
modDnNew
Issues my changes should fix:
Error [content0]game\gui\commonmainmenubase.ws(73): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType'
Thanks a lot, thumbsup! This gets you a big kudos. Your edited DN version works with according CP files. Could be seen as the default DN modfile updated, as i guess it works also without CP free of issues.
Somebody should sticky your post to the top position.

Edit: The nexus link seems to be broken, but I right clicked it and selected "Open in new window" and it worked
edit:
Actually, after downloading this version of darker nights (the one WITH friendly meditation)
https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/3151
my game works just fine, only thing that threw me off was its been turned off by default, dunno why. Just go in game to options > mods > darker nights, and set things there. Hope it will help someone.
Ah, also, delete modfriendly_meditation in mods folder if you came across any errors during startup.

EDIT: i manage to make it work but the Menu name is invisible but the sliders are working i only tried it in vizima too bad no slider for velen
I was wondering, is there any way to have from time to time nights that are not that dark? Like when the moon shines bright in real life.
Error [content0]game\gui\commonmainmenubase.ws(73): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType'
Error [content0]game\gui\main_menu\maincreditsmenu.ws(397): Could not find function 'GetChosenMainMenuType'
Fix:
1. Download Vanilla 1.32 scripts from (Classic Edition) Community Patch- Base
2. Extract files: commonMainMenuBase.ws & mainCreditsMenu.ws
3. Copy commonMainMenuBase.ws into folder: Witcher3\Mods\modDnNew\content\scripts\game\gui
4. Copy mainCreditsMenu.ws into folder: Witcher3\Mods\modDnNew\content\scripts\game\gui\main_menu
I am running 1.32 Classic, and this got the mod working for me.
