Description

  • Pressing one of the hotkeys you have previously defined for saving (see installation!), the currently equipped mutation, mutagens, skills, weapons, armor, potions and bombs, quick slots as well as the witcher mask are saved under section "MODCBS" in your games user.settings file.
  • When doing so the first time a HUD message saying "'Unnamed' character build (Build<n>) loaded" will be displayed. You might want to (but don't need to) give your saved character build a name. To do so open your "Documents > The Witcher 3" user.settings" file, find section "MODCBS" and change the word "Unnamed" in the user variable setting 'Build<n>="Unnamed|..."'.
  • To load a previously saved character build just press the hotkey you have previously defined for loading the corresponding character build. A HUD message saying "'<Your build name>' character build (Build<n>) saved" will be displayed.
  • Supports additional active and inactive potion slots as added by the "More Quick Slots" mod (Next-Gen 4.04 compatible patched version: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/8643)

Important notes

  • In general you should not load a character build created with a save where you have already learned certain mutations, mutagens and skills with a save where you haven't yet learned some of these. This scenario I have not tested. In best case it might work in a way that the game simply does not equip such not yet learned mutations, mutagens and skills. In worst case it might behave like cheating or even corrupt your game.
  • Furthermore, when loading items from a character build which are currently not equipped or part of your character's inventory, the respective item slot will be left unequipped afterwards. You will need to reequip the item which was equipped before having loaded the character build.
  • Also, you should prevent to have more than one item (weapon, armor, pants, etc.) of the same type in your character's inventory. If for example you have two Griffin master silver swords in your inventory then upon loading a character build which contains a Griffin master silver sword it would be arbitrary which of the two Griffin master silver swords would be equipped.

Configuration (via Options > Mods > Character Build Switcher)

Option "Use stash for weapons, armor, etc." (default off):

If this option is enabled, before loading a character build the currently equipped steel and silver swords, armor, boots, pants and gloves are moved to the player's stash provided that the corresponding items are part of any of the saved character builds. Subsequently, if any of the steel and silver swords, armor, boots, pants and gloves to be loaded from the saved character build is not found in the player's inventory but in the player's stash then it is moved from the stash into the player's inventory and equipped.

Option "Use stash for decoctions" (default off)

As soon as enabled, before loading a character build the currently equipped decoctions are moved to the player's stash provided that these decoctions are part of any of the saved character builds. Subsequently, if any of the decoctions to be loaded from the saved character build is not found in the player's inventory but in the player's stash then it is moved from the stash into the player's inventory and equipped. Note that if you are using the "More Quick Slots" mod then loaded decoctions might be equipped on inactive potion slots, means you would only see them when switching potion sets.

This option is primarily meant to be used in combination with a mod that allows to manually move decoctions to the player's stash like the "Stash Potions Oils Bombs and Quest Items" mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/8082/), especially if you'd like to play a Metamorphosis character build.

Installation

  • Place the modCBS folder into your W3 mods directory.
  • Copy file "modCBS.xml" to your Witcher 3 installation directory under "bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc"
  • In the same directory edit files dx11filelist.txt and dx12filelist.txt, and add a line saying "modCBS.xml;" to these files
  • Copy the text from modCBS.input.settings and add it to the top of your input.settings file (Documents > The Witcher 3).
  • Copy the text from modCBS.input.xml and paste it into your game's input.xml file directly under <VisibleVars> (bin\config\r4game\user_config_matrix\pc)
  • Once you load up the game, go to Options > Keybindings and set your preferred keys for each of the "Load/Save character build" hotkey options, which will be at the top of the list.
