Update 1.1:

Removed the remaining arrow deflection trails.

Were you ever annoyed by the fact many of this games graphic effects are straight out of the early 2000s? Was your immersion ever ruined because that cinematic dismember animation got overshadowed by 1 single unrealistic sword trail? #MeToo which is why I made this mod. Basically it removes the trails that follow swords and arrows. It makes the game somewhat more difficult because now you will need to be aware of your surroundings in order to counter arrows as they are basically invisible under certain conditions yet realism has it's price. 4 versions available.

The mod should be compatible with basically anything and also work on both 'Next Gen' and 'Classic' versions of the game. There are some mods which also edit the trail textures (color changes etc) yet.. Apples and oranges I guess.

Fun fact: The arrows are coded to defy the laws of physics in order to hit the player in most cases. There are more and less obvious examples of that phenomenon.

How - why did you make this mod?

I found the trail textures then replaced them with blank transparent ones made using photoshop. I made this mod because the old ones were somewhat outdated and used a different method. Basically they edited the effect files themselves in order to remove the texture paths while I just made the textures transparent (save for 1 file edit in update 1.1) which is far easier and quicker. No files from the original mods were taken. I made this mod from scratch by using wolvenkit and photoshop in like 2 minutes.

Does this mod remove ALL trail effects?

No idea. I found 2 folders with trail textures, overwrote them then went in-game to test whether my changes worked then published the mod. If anyone notices any other trail effects let me know and I will remove them. I made a second version of the mod which also removes the sword trails from Aerondight on top of the base game ones.

Why do you write like that? Would it not be easier to just include essential info instead of writing walls of text?

Perhaps. Yet Witcher 3 modding can be very tiresome - tedious - somewhat difficult and humans need places to vent. A basic description of the mod is included within the first few text lines anyway. When you know the file layouts by hand edits such as this mod are very easy yet the process of memorizing where certain files are is very, very boring.
