Hey there Witchers. It looks like I'm done playing and modding TW3. At the least I will be taking a hiatus. I simply got tired of my game crashing and the endless troubleshooting to find the culprit. Redownload/reinstall has become too tiresome. Plus I need to play other games in my library.

Thank you for endorsing and trying out my mods =)

I give my permissions for anyone to edit/improve any of my mods with exceptions from protected assets that I was given permission to use. I'm sure I've labeled those accordingly.

    ALL EDITS FINALIZED!

There no more ways for me to make edits. So if there is the unfortunate "my game crashes with this cutscene/quest" and I get the same outcome on my end, all I can do is remove the edit to the file that's affected.

Thanks everyone and hope you all like it.

I understand that there could be some confusions on which file(s) to use, my apologies, that's what i get for making multiple versions. so here's a little explainer...

    • The 3 main mods are Cutscene Lighting Edits, Soft Disable Lighting and Grim Cutscenes. (basic description is on the main description page)
    • All patches are included within. (no patches will be made for other mods) ONLY install patches if you use the mod that it's patched for. There are a couple of scenes I was unable to edit and are left out of the Brothers In Arms patch. (BIA have priority)
    • The updates section will be reserved for any updates needed for Brother In Arms Mod. No other mods will be patched simply give other mods higher priority.
    • I've included snapshots of what the mod(s) order should look like. If you do not use the Optional Add-on for Brothers In Arms or Quest Tweaks. You can freely delete those patches.
    • Immersive Realtime Cutscenes patch has been removed since it's been integrated into the game since patch 4.04! Thank you to MrWheyne for informing me. I re-edited that scene to ensure it's made from the latest patch.
    • I've renamed the main mods name so it defaults to bottom of the load order. Just in case to be safe if there are mods that have conflicts give other mods priority over mine. Tweaks I make a likely inconsequential in comparison. I’ll not make any more patches for other mods. General rule, always give other mods priority. I will however keep up with patches as best I can with ones I have made. And always give patches higher priority over everything.

Hello again, I noticed another problem with the mod (I have Soft Disabled Lighting installed). On Thin Ice quest, the cutscene with Triss in the tent, the model and voiceacting for Triss isn't loading, Geralt is talking to himself essentially. I disabled the mod in the mod manager and it's working correctly now. I didn't notice any conflicts in the mod manager.

I did not encounter this with my playthrough. I will see if i have a save point with Triss romanced so that particular scene loads. I have gotten weird crashes from time to time (rarely though) and it will be fine with a restart. I guess it's just the nature of the mod that it can be buggy. So like you mentioned disabling the mod may be the only workaround.

      **UPDATE**

I was able to find a save with that Triss scene in the tent and it played though fine. unless your talking about a different scene i thought you meant. it the scene right after you sail to Undvik and have your meeting with the Lodge, Ciri etc.. then a scene with either Triss or Yen depending on your romance choices. That's the scene i tested and it worked just fine, luckily my last playthrough was with Triss romanced.

I thought initially that there's a conflict with 4KRW since I have it installed but disabling it didn't fix the problem. Must be some other mod interfering since I have a lot of mods installed. Thanks anyway.

sorry mate. i too use 4KRW and BASE appearances mod too, B.I.A etc.. likely your best bet would be just disable my mod before starting that quest. you may not want to go down a rabbit hole trying to find the cause. it's not worth it to be honest. but do as you will. :)

Also my mod could still be the problem even there’s no conflict my mod could still be problematic with another mod you have which is why disabling my mod may be best.

You can use whatever version you like. It just depends on how much lighting you want removed. The soft disable is the best in my opinion. It’s a nice middle ground. So try that or the fixes only version if you like how lighting in cutscenes look with your lighting mod.

Hi, I installed Soft Disabled Lighting and I now have a non-mergeable conflict with Unreasonable Plot Redesigned in 1 scene. Is it possible to make a compatibility patch?

I may make a patch for that since I too use that mod. I will have to get in touch with the author first though.

      *Update*

i tried to make a patch for my own use but it is a file like a few of the BiA files where i cannot make edits using wolvenkit. so no patch can be made. so i'm not going to bother with it. simply give the unreasonable plot higher priority. i will do the same for myself. thank you for pointing out the conflict. i probably would never have noticed.

Im using Better Vanilla Lightning. I almost gave up turning off camera lights. Because I cant handle the jarring difference between ingame dark scenes to very fake bright cutscenes, even with all 3 camera lights commands.

For my usecase which option would you recommend?

for both scenarios of having everything default or disabling all camera lights and possibly use darker nights?

Greetings! I personally use Better Vanilla Light with Soft Disable Lighting. i also use turn off only the player light. (the one that lights up behind Geralt) i use natural cat vision to help with lighting in the caves.

Ive been playing for the last couple of hours with your settings and noticed that sometimes it seems there’s still some lights on cutscenes?

Is this because DisableAllCameraLights is off? Because I noticed one or two mods here describe that one in the options as also cutscene lights. Im only adding these to an ini file.

I tried using Darker Nights but that didnt play out well, drastic difference between gameplay and cutscenes which is jarring.

Right now I only have, like you, the small camera lights on. Which makes no difference to interiors at all, which is ok but for example. When Geralt finds Hendricks ledger its in a very dark cellar, character is barely lit which is cool but when it goes into the cutscene of him reading the contents you can tell very clearly he’s artificially lit, cutscene ends and you can see the “darkness” slowly returning.

Is this expected? Should I turn on DisableAllCameraLights at all?

It depends on how you want the lighting to look. If you want remove as much of the lighting as possible "disable all camera lights" and use the mod "No Cutscene Lighting". or you can try the "Grim Cutscenes" version of my mod.

I'm actually really confused now :D

I don't necessarily want to remove every single light source, because I want consistency basically. Or as much as possible.

Isn't your "grim" option the same as the mod you just linked? Removal of all lights.

What I was looking for was for environmental lights such as candles, fires etc to still be active and influence the scene.

Ok I think I understand now, you actually have on some scenes the lights re-added but dimmer than vanilla? Otherwise it'd be too dark right? Do I understand that correctly? After looking at all the pictures you uploaded.

I think I'm gonna keep playing as is because it works fine, just a shame that nights are still super bright, that was the main thing for me. And getting a consistent transition between cutscenes + gameplay is pretty hard when you make nights darker.

The scene I was talking about is exactly this one: https://youtu.be/XHz7mdVD5GQ?si=iDnrcNpA_cZ5e4K2&t=367

Since I only have smallcameralights disabled, then the envrionment isn't super dark but when he starts reading the book, Geralt was pretty lit up. And I have yes, all your patches installed as I do have Quest Tweaks and BIA all priorities are correct!

Cutscene Lighting Edits ---- left ON things lights that have shadow casting

Could this option probably be better for what I'm looking for?

What you mean here is that you just removed player/npc spotlights as well as artificial light probes placed for the scenes? So the light that exists comes from props like candles/torches etc?

In a case like this. If I don't mess with night darkness and leave it vanilla, the gameplay night brightness will be the "same" during cutscenes?

Again, sorry for being such a pain in the ass lol

no friend not a pain at all. there are a few scenes where i was able to remove crazy extra lighting like this for example

it was a strange option called "camera lights" i think. it's not an option every scene has. but in the scenes i found like this for example i turned them off. btw this fix is included in all the versions. the things i removed are just the extra ones. the scenes themselves still have lighting that i didn't mess with except this scene.

this one i adjusted some of the scenes lighting because it was strange how it was overlit. so it took me awhile to find where this one specifically was located. this one is also in all the versions too.

so to make things even more confusing. the initial game came out when 2013? there was no such thing as ray tracing so every scene needed to have environmental/camera/auxiliary lighting added or baked in. so how it works is you have the lighting that you see when running around (lighting mods for example edit this) then there is lighting that is layered on when you enter cutscenes. to truly have consistent lighting you would have to make adjustments throughout every single cutscene. to shorten this a bit what i edited is simply just a fraction of what you could actually edit and it would be painfully/exponentially more difficult to adjust all the camera/environmental/auxiliary lighting in every cutscene.

so you could try the 3 main versions and see what you would like the most.
for the one scene you linked it must be some kind of extra lighting cdred added on so that Geralt's face could seen "better".

so the "No Cutscene Lighting" mod i mentioned would likely net you the most consistent lighting between gameplay and cutscenes but in order for that to work it won't really be compatible with any other lighting mod. so you would have to stick to vanilla lighting.

sorry to possibly further confuse you :)

You didn't confuse me further at all! In fact this was really insightful!

The lightning mod I'm using is Better Vanilla Changes, so since that doesn't even touch nights or anything drastic it should work with "No Cutscene Lighting" right? Or would you recommend to just stick with what you alreayd recommended? SDL + Small Light.

If it's doable, to use "No Cutscene Lighting" which cameraLights should I be turning off?

it could technically work you would have to make sure No Cutscene Lighting have higher priority over any other lighting mod of your choosing. but it will not look good in all instances because you will break whatever lighting mod you use. Better Vanilla Lighting edits some of the same files so No Cutscene Lighting would break parts of Better Vanilla Lighting. As far as which camera lights to turn off. i personally only recommend to turn off the player light. but you would have to experiment which ones to turn off that works/looks best for you. good luck on the path!

That makes absolute sense, thank you for being so helpful. Game looks absolutely fantastic already for how old it is.

Literally my only nitpick is how insanely bright nights are, desaturating colors a bit would've helped give that "moon light" look but there's too much color during nights, but trying to make nights darker, even if just a bit ( Darker Nights Enhanced ) with SDL + BVL does feel slightly jarring at times, during transitions to cutscenes and back. Shame but can't complain still how incredible it looks. And thanks for everything, your mod helps a LOT!
