About this mod

Jump in combat with a single key press. No sprinting required!

Permissions and credits
WHAT THIS MOD DOES AND WHY IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN GAMEPLAY:

This simple mod will allow Geralt to jump IN COMBAT with ONE, SINGLE, SOLITARY key press.  If you use a direction key at the same time, Geralt can jump over low fences and walls with ease, instead of being pinned down against a two-inch-tall tree root.

Being able to jump in combat with a single key press can DRAMATICALLY change (but not unbalance) the dynamics of combat from those of the vanilla game.  Geralt will no longer get stuck against low objects, and, instead, can actually make use of scenery objects as part of his combat strategy, especially when fighting large groups of enemies.  Now Geralt can put some distance between himself and a hoard of bandits or gain momentary respite from an enemy onslaught by hopping over a wall or up onto a ledge.

If you install Wasteland Ghost's excellent Combat Stance mod in conjunction with this mod, Geralt will also be able to climb slightly higher obstacles during combat under logically correct circumstances.  Be careful, though, as Geralt can sometimes (appropriately) get hacked to bits if enemies are too close (or using ranged attacks) while the climbing animation is playing!

KEYBINDING ADVICE:

You should not hesitate to change this mod's default keybind (in the included addtoinput.settings file or manually in your ...Documents/The Witcher 3/input.settings file).

I used the 'U' key as a default/example (for the download package, in the included addtoinput.settings file) because 'U' isn't bound to anything in the vanilla keyboard layout.

HOWEVER, in order for this mod to truly shine, you should to customize your keyboard (either manually and/or using the in-game menu Options > Keyboard Bindings).  I STRONGLY suggest that you bind vanilla combat ROLL to a different key than vanilla non-combat JUMP, then bind Combat Jump to the same key as non-combat JUMP:

For example: in your ...Documents/The Witcher 3/input.settings file (or using the in-game menu Options > Keyboard Bindings), if you bind ROLL to some key other than the (default binding) SPACE BAR and add the following in your ...Documents/The Witcher 3/input.settings file:

[Combat]
IK_Space=(Action=CombatJump)

[Combat_Replacer_Ciri]
IK_Space=(Action=CombatJump)

then Geralt should be able to both non-combat JUMP and Combat Jump with the SPACE BAR (and combat ROLL using whatever separate key you chose to bind to ROLL).

As a further example, I don't bind anything to the SPACE BAR because I am left-handed.  Therefore, in my game I bind most movement and non-attack functions to my number pad keys.  I have vanilla JUMP and Combat Jump bound to my INSERT key, while ROLL is bound to the NumPad7 key.)

GAMEPAD/CONTROLLER SUGGESTED KEYBIND FOR COMBAT JUMP:

For insertion in your ...Documents/The Witcher 3/input.settings file:

[Combat]
IK_U=(Action=CombatJump)
IK_Pad_LeftThumb=(Action=CombatJump)

[Combat_Replacer_Ciri]
IK_U=(Action=CombatJump)
IK_Pad_LeftThumb=(Action=CombatJump)

(Credit to Nexus user george5497 for this suggested keybind for Gamepad users.)

OTHER COMBAT JUMP MODS:

There are other mods that provide similar functionality, but (as far as I could find) none provide simple combat jumping with a SINGLE key press.

For example, the excellent EK_Combat Jump mod, allows Geralt to jump in combat, but ONLY if you are ALSO sprinting at the same time. I don't possess the required manual dexterity to hold down three keys with one hand, as required in order to use EK_Combat Jump, so I made this mod.

Enjoy!

Best,
Hem

INSTALLING:

Mod Installers:

I set up the download packages with the popular installers in mind, so this mod should install easily with an installer.

Manual Install (always recommended for TW3):

Download and extract the mod files.  Copy the "modHemsCombatJump" folder (or, if you downloaded the NextGen version, the "modHemsCombatJumpNG" folder) from the download to the mods folder in your The Witcher 3 directory folder.  If you don't have a mods folder (because this is your first mod, etc.), create one inside your The Witcher 3 directory folder.

REQUIRED SETUP/CONFIGURATION (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):

You will need to bind the Combat Jump functionality of this mod to a key.  To do so, you will need to find and open the input.settings file found in your documents directory (...Documents/The Witcher 3/input.settings), paste (or manually type in/insert) keybind information, and save (of course).

Here are some sample keybind lines to paste into input.settings (which are also in the included addtoinput.settings file that is in the download package):

[Combat]
IK_U=(Action=CombatJump)

[Combat_Replacer_Ciri]
IK_U=(Action=CombatJump)

In the above example (and in the included addtoinput.settings file), I chose the "U" key because that key is not used in Witcher 3's default keyboard settings.  For advice on custom keybinding while using this mod (recommended), see the Keyboard Binding Advice section above.

USE SCRIPT MERGER:

No matter what method you use to install this mod, if you have other mods installed that change the player.ws script, you should run Script Merger, found here:

Script Merger

If you don't know whether you have conflicting mods installed, then, please, run Script Merger.  Get to know and learn to use Script Merger. It is essential for modding The Witcher 3!

UNINSTALLING:

Manually uninstall as follows:

1. Delete the modHemsCombatJump (or modHemsCombatJumpNG if you installed the NextGen version) folder from your The Witcher 3 mods folder.
2. Delete any associated keybinds you added to your ...Documents/The Witcher 3/input.settings file and save.
3. If you ran Script Merger on installing this mod, run it again and follow the normal Script Merger procedures to re-merge any mods necessary.
