I'm sorry to say that the mod is not going to get another update, as you can see from the image that I just uploaded the lighting in the game is so fucked up that it's not even worth trying anymore, even in the most standard conditions (outdoors during a sunny day) the hair that should be brown comes out as orange in game, and things only get worse when you get near candles (Rosemary & Thyme) where the hair gets completely red.
The image only shows one of the many attempts I made with different shades of brown in the last few days, and all result in the same extremely red colors when near candles, it seems that the only reliable colors to use are very dark or very bright colors (black hair and white hair look perfect), and of course bright red since it can't get any more red.
I really hoped to be able to make something usable but it seems unlikely, unless something changes or someone knows how to fix the problem I'm not going to waste any more time on this.
This is a lovely color! Is there a way to have different hair style that would be roughly the same length if hair unraveled? All with the same color so it would appear she can wear it different ways? Thank you! <3
So... in the end there is no decent mod to correct Triss hair? EDIT: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2503 this one looks good enough (has also a default look recolered with darker hair)
Triss' hair is doesn't have auburn highlights, it has gold highlights. At the beginning of Blood of Elves when Triss meets Ciri outside of Kaer Morhen, Sapkowski writes that her hair is the color of fresh chestnuts with a bright gold sheen. That would be lore friendly and a version that I would use.
The hair is described as auburn later in the books and Yen refers to it as red in the last one, to be completely honest I'm not sure even Sapkowski knows what color it is supposed to be, anyway I'm still working on the color.
Actually Auburn is more accurate. It's supposed to be a reddish brown, not red or brown. Like this: https://i.redditmedia.com/-520L7II25TER27Lf6lvwLEu8iC6GZSWJ8zRbeUYqlY.jpg?w=493&s=6845f60d9da169650e94adab3d520cc7
Its a sort of a mis-translation to call it chestnut.
Actually her hair colour is described as chestnut (in books) and red/ginger (in games). To be more realistic I think chestnut would fit her more in Witcher 3 as having a bright red hair kind of gives her away as being a sorceress and she is hiding. I dunno why they made her hair so bright red and I also dunno why they made her 'alternate' dlc outfit literally giving who she is away.
A shame this will not get an update, the first image combined with Lapis Luzuli colored eyes would be almost perfect. I'll never understand why CDPR decided to change her appearance so drastically from the books. TW1 was the closest that we ever got to a lore-friendly Triss. TW1 got a lot right overall while I'm on the topic. Thanks for trying Akezhar!
Thank you very much, even with unexpected results in different lightning conditions its still way better than vanilla. Whoever @CDPR is responsible for this mess should stand in a corner for at least few months.
Mod still works with 1.12 and I'd like to share a little trick on getting it to work if you're using LOD-increasing mods (those that increase overall LOD or just the one for the hair LOD): You have to make it so the game loads the NPC specific mods first and this is all about mod names.
An example: Say you're using the mod "Hair - increase LOD distance shift" together with "Lore Friendly Ciri" and "Lore Triss". Have a look inside your ...\The Witcher 3\Mods folder where the mods are in order by name. Ignoring all other mods, the three mentioned hair mods will load in the order of their mod folder name. If it's higher in the hierarchy / earlier in the alphabet / earlier in terms of numbers then it will override lower mods, which means...
As you can probably guess, the Ciri hair color mod will already override the hair LOD increase mod automatically, because "C" comes before "H". But this very mod here will be overriden by the hair LOD increase because "L" comes after "H".
The trick is simple: Rename the folder of this mod. In the end it should look like this:
Puttin the number "0" (zero) in makes the mod take preference over the hair LOD increase mod and will give Triss her brown hair despite the bigger hair mod.

Thanks to everyone that tried the mod.
Thanks for trying so hard and unveiling a problem in the game that hopefully someday someone will figure out. It wasn't all for naught, however, as even though you weren't able to get it right it still looks better in a lot of ways (other than consistent color, lol) than the vanilla Triss. Thanks again!
For me it has been a learning process, this is the first time I try to do something like this and I learned a lot about Blender and how models work so it wasn't all wasted time, but in the last few days trying to fight against something I can't change became tedious and boring, maybe i'll figure out something else to work on.
I've tried many different colors and the problem is always there, it might be something to do with the hair material but we can't edit those.
I've tried your mod, looks pretty good but still has the same problem with the lights, maybe it looks better with some kind of sweetfx or similar but I don't have any of those installed.
